Discover the Heart and Passion of LedsonWinery & Vineyards
BY JILLIAN BAKERLedson Winery, locally known as “The Castle,” specializes in crafting small-lot wines reflecting Sonoma County’s uniquely diverse winegrowing regions. The wines reflect a sense of place and showcase the art of premier winemaking. In fact, about 90% of Ledson wine is produced from estate-grown fruit, which allows winemaker Steve Ledson to meticulously farm his vineyards producing superior wine. Ledson Winery produces more than 60 different wines — up to 20 different varietals and blends from as many as 12 distinct appellations. You’re sure to discover a wine you will love!
The Ledson family has a long and rich agricultural history in Sonoma County dating back to the 1860s. The 150-year-plus Ledson legacy was built on hard work and land stewardship. The Ledson “Castle” is hard to miss on Highway 12, displaying true French Normandy-style architecture. The 16,000-square-foot structure was designed entirely by Steve Ledson and features sweeping staircases, marble fireplaces, cathedral-style windows, coffered ceilings, several tasting bars, and over five miles of ornate wood inlays and mosaics, which were hand-cut and installed by the Ledson Construction team. This amazing building is a true labor of love. Visit this unique winery to discover the heart and passion of a family-owned operation producing outstanding, high-quality wines.

As a Ledson club member you have the ability to “own” one or more vineyard rows surrounding the Castle planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Depending on the location of the vineyard row, some owners can even enjoy a private tasting at their vineyard row. New Release Wine Reco endations
by Melissa VogtDecadent Cabernet for Mother’s Day and beyond.
This beautiful Cabernet from Charles Krug is elegant and graceful. The wine begins with a bouquet of cassis, toasted pecan and vanilla, followed by nuanced notes of blackberry, violet, and dark chocolate on the palate. It’s a beautifully balanced wine with silky texture, plush roundness, a long finish. It drinks well in its youth, making a fine fit for upcoming Mother’s Day celebrations.
From the creators of the famed Schrader Cellars, their Double Diamond label offers top quality at a very reasonable price. The wine hails from the Oakville appellation and is aged 16 months in 50% new French oak. It’s a soft and elegant expression of Cabernet with an inviting profile that showcases a silky texture, soft tannin structure, and warm red fruit. It shows notes of strawberry and plums with an underlying spiced earth component coupled with a hint of olive. The wine is nicely balanced and will be a lovely offering for pairing with Mother’s Day charcuterie plates.
The Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon blends just enough Merlot (12%), Malbec (2%), and Cabernet Franc (1%) to give this wine a distinct flavor profile filled with complexity and nuance. Aromas of blackberry and caramel give way to a palate filled with ripe berries, plum, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans. It has a voluptuous mouthfeel balanced by bright acidity — no doubt a hallmark of mountainous Cabernet — and shows power with restraint. Bring this wine to Mother’s Day dinners with roasts and steaks for an evening of delightful pairing.
This is a powerhouse 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the iconic and coveted To Kalon Vineyard site. It shows off deep aromatic notes of cassis, black cherry, and leather. The palate is assertive yet balanced with grippy tannin structure, full body, and diversity in flavor: savory qualities combine with ripe dark fruit, baking spice, and an earthy minerality. The wine is aged for an impressive 20 months in 100% new French oak, giving it the gift of ages. This is a Cabernet worth gifting for mothers who treasure their cellar collections.

Introducing The Miller House
Napa Valley’s Newest Tasting Destination
The Miller House honors the endless contributions of Founder Leslie Frank, born Leslie Miller, whose vision was to build a unique and special entertaining area for Frank Family guests. The Miller House showcases Leslie’s signature chic style combined with the farmhouse elegance of renowned architect Howard J. Backen. It serves as a canvas for the winery’s most exclusive and elevated experiences where Frank Family wines will be poured alongside the cuisine of celebrity chef Christina Machamer.
“Leslie Frank is a former Emmy award-winning news journalist who has long served as one of Frank Family’s visionaries. She also exudes good taste and hospitality, so we were resolute in naming the new space after her from the start,” says Hospitality Director Liam Gearity.
The Miller House rises over the vast Member’s Lawn, behind Frank Family’s Craftsman House-turned tasting room, inviting guests to taste their vineyardfocused wines and enjoy small, curated bites, while overlooking surrounding vineyards and mountains. Featuring sustainably reclaimed wood, high ceilings, and natural earth tones that bring the outside in, the space was expertly designed with no detail spared.
“Rich and I were actually married at this site,” says Founder, Leslie Frank. “This is a very special location for me. I wanted to create a space that integrated the natural beauty of our surroundings, where our guests could experience the joy of nature here in Calistoga,” says Leslie.
The Miller House allows guests to enjoy a seamless indoor-outdoor experience on the Napa Valley floor no matter what time of year. The 2,300-square-foot structure features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, custom-made recycled ash wood tables, large statement mirrors, artful light fixtures, and an inviting lounge area with cognac-colored leather sofas around a central fireplace. Each element was thoughtfully selected by Leslie alongside Napa-based interior designer, Robin Beck of Hawkins Interiors to complete the space. They combined the contemporary interior with an additional 1,100 square feet of exterior covered seating for tastings and private and winery-hosted events, where guests can be at one with the serene landscape of the valley.
Seasonal Wine and Food Experience
Chef Machamer has created a hyper-seasonal, authentic farmto-table wine and food experience for guests of The Miller House. Each new pairing is hand-selected to demonstrate how the aromas,
textures, and flavor profiles of Frank Family’s estate-driven wines are accentuated by food. “I like to think of this experience as a masterclass on food and wine pairings,” says Gearity, who along with his team of experienced wine educators will guide guests through each pairing and take time to explain why they work well together, providing fundamental pairing tips
along the way that can be easily applied at home.
The menu will be ever-evolving to showcase the season’s best, always highlighting locally grown ingredients, like home-grown Meyer lemon from Frank Family’s Winston Hill or mission fig picked from the centurion trees located at their estate Benjamin Vineyard in Rutherford. The tasting will start light with Frank Family’s Blanc de Blancs and perhaps a homemade yeasted blini with caviar and crème fraiche. The pairings become progressively more umami driven as the tasting moves into the reds—such as sliced Spanish Fuet with Winston Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. “We are excited to showcase our excellent wines with delicious food, and we hope each guest leaves with a heightened appreciation for pairing the two,” says Leslie Frank.
Chef Christina Machamer was the winner of season four of FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen and is today one of Napa Valley’s preeminent chefs. She worked side-by-side with some of the world’s top chefs, including Gordon Ramsay and Thomas Keller, before launching her own business in the Napa Valley a decade ago.
The exploration of food and wine offered at The Miller House is ideal for private groups or for guests who enjoy meeting others with shared interests in food and wine. The Miller House Elevated Experience is now available at $120 per guest, $60 per club member. The outdoor patio is available for seated Estate tastings, $60 per person, complimentary for members. Reservations can be made online at FrankFamilyVineyards.com/Visit and private event inquiries can be made at FrankFamilyVineyards.com/Private-Events.

Think of your neighborhood “Cheers” where Bartender Reba Jones and Bar Manager Jessica Epting calmly captain the lively bar all while working hard to come up with a new signature cocktail each and every day. To keep things innovative, the pair create their own infusions, mixers and liqueurs from flowers and fruits, using local, organic ingredients whenever possible. Think a flower-infused hibiscus gin, a one-of-a-kind Margarita with housemade butterfly peapod tequila, or the Pink Dragon made with Patron silver, muddled dragon fruit, and housemade cranberry syrup. For the less adventurous there are, of course, the usual suspects like hand-selected wines from Napa, Sonoma, and around the world, as well as craft beers and delicious food and bar bites. Either way, it is endlessly satisfying to note that, whatever you fancy, North Bar & Grill is a warm and welcoming neighborhood spot, perfect for any day of the week.
HopMonk Tavern | Sebastopol
Spring has sprung and with it, a plethora of new cocktail offerings from HopMonk Sebastopol. Bar Manager/Assistant Manager and all around cocktail connoisseur, Kylie Schlobohm, is taking her cues from the profusion of wildflowers popping up following months and month of rain. Using local ingredients wherever possible, Schlobohm mentioned a couple of her favorites. Pink Petals is made with rose water, local raspberries, and egg white for a frothy, beautifully pink-hued drink. The Macha Colada uses green tea macha powder – very Sebastopol-esque says Schlobohm - pineapple juice, a bit of coconut, and mint for a new spin on a pina colada. The cocktail program typically includes a clarified milk punch and the newest rendition is a dreamy take on a creamsicle. An adult version of an all-time favorite from the ice cream truck and perfect for warm weather, this delicious cocktail makes use of local citrus, primarily from employee’s orange and Meyer lemon trees. Schlobohm says that customers are always enthusiastic about new offerings, especially when they embrace the change of seasons. She also pointed out that the tavern hosts a huge summer music series.
ArBARetum | Downtown Napa
A sidearm of the popular Napa Valley Distillery, the newly opened ArBARetum is located in the heart of downtown Napa and at the cutting edge of Napa Valley’s cocktail and craft spirits scene. Hollywood Bar | Downtown Napa
Also from the Napa Valley Distillery the Hollywood Bar offers an extensive selection of craft cocktails, premium spirits, and local wines, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the vineyards. The bar’s talented mixologists are experts at creating unique and innovative cocktails using the freshest ingredients, and the menu features a variety of small bites and snacks to pair with your drinks. Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated night out with friends or a romantic evening with your significant other, the Hollywood Bar is a must-visit spot in Napa.
Kapu Bar | Downtown Petaluma
The spirit of aloha has come to Petaluma with the new Kapu Bar. Loosely translated as “keep out,” the vibe at Kapu is anything but. Warm and welcoming at every turn, with food and drinks that go right alongside. Cocktails include islandinspired concoctions such as the popular Mai Tai and Zombie to less traditional creations such as the Fink Bomb, the Jungle Bird, or the Tropical Itch. The food menu ranges from poke nachos to braised pipikaula and garlic chicken to Ohana-style favorites like adobo fried rice, fried noodles and “stuffed” fish. The funky space has just the right amount of kitsch for plenty of le’ale’a.
Fern Bar | The Barlow, Sebastopol
The Barlow is always a fun-filled place to pop in for cocktails, food, wine and shopping. While there, don’t miss Fern Bar, a bar-focused restaurant featuring craft garden-to-glass cocktails. Served in an airy, plant-filled space, Fern Bar features modern American cuisine inspired by West Sonoma County’s abundance of biodiversity. Along with a menu of innovative and delicious dishes, the lively bar scene features house-made beer and spirit-free elixirs, as well as locally sourced and small-production wines.
Perch + Plow | Downtown Santa Rosa
Located in historic Courthouse Square, Perch + Plow is restaurant by day and fun bar by night. Known for its eclectic cocktails and ever-evolving menu, Perch + Plow uses the abundance of ingredients endemic to Sonoma County to craft drinks and dishes focused on the freshest possible. Receiving accolades from patrons and winning awards from local media has only strengthened the appeal. With an edgy vibe perfect for guests of all ages - although written up as a hotspot for 20-somethingsPerch + Plow is sure to delight.
Wit & Wisdom | Sonoma
Located in the Lodge at Sonoma Resort, Wit & Wisdom is Chef Michael Mina’s first venture into Wine Country dining. Offering award-winning food and a robust wine list, the restaurant is also known for its eclectic collection of cocktails. Bar Manager, Ken Ariza, along with his team of bartenders are gifted mixologists who are constantly upping the ante in the craft cocktail game. Serving perfectly crafted classic cocktails that adhere to the traditional rules of bartending – think Mai Tais and Old Fashioneds – plus new renditions of old favorites as well as completely innovative creations keeps guests coming back for more. Take The Argonaut for instance. Using a technique called “fat washing,” Redwood Empire Whiskey is infused with browned butter which produces a sublimely silky texture. Combined with Cherry Heering and Cardamaro liqueurs, the delicious drink is practically irresistible. For the warm weather ahead, Ariza has a new drink he calls “Life in a Hammock.” This gin-based concoction includes Yuzu, Limoncello, Lavender syrup, Fino sherry, and Rose wine foam for a cocktail that is not too tart and not too sweet. As with all the cocktails at Wit & Wisdom, balance is key as are seasonal ingredients for a drinks menu that changes four times each year.

“This milestone is a testament to the hard work and foresight of early vintners, the families and neighbors who have supported and challenged each other, and the friendships forged over the pursuit of excellence,” said Jesslyn Jackson, Executive Director, Russian River Valley Winegrowers (RRVW). “Every vineyard and winery in the Russian River Valley tells a story – and we’re only getting started.”
Officially named an AVA in 1983, the cool-climate region today encompasses 165,000 acres of premium vineyards, and is home to a thriving community of farmers and winemakers who are stewards of the land and who continuously strive to protect the future of the distinctive area. Long before its official AVA status, the Russian River Valley had a rich viticultural history, and records of winegrowing date back more than 150 years.
“Every vineyard and winery in the Russian River Valley tells a story –and we’re only getting started.”– Jesslyn Jackson, Executive Director, Russian River Valley Winegrowers
With its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, which sends breezes and fog to cool the vineyards, and a long growing season, the area is especially suited for Pinot Noir. By the 1970s notable winemakers and growers were making a mark with their expressive wines. Since then, generations of innovators have built a legacy of producing distinctive wines of quality, authenticity, and integrity.
“Like many fellow growers, we have been farming here for decades. Our family vineyard is marking our 40th harvest and we now have the third generation living on and nurturing this land. We have great respect for the vision of and perseverance of the area’s pioneers,” said Chris Crispo of Bush Crispo Vineyards. “We’re at an exciting time with established names and newcomers alike combining new ideas with the best of classic techniques with the shared goals of quality and sustainability. Wines from the Russian River Valley are among the best in the world, and we continue working hard to build on this reputation for years to come.”

Mix and Mingle
A highlight of this event is the opportunity to interact with some of the leading vintners in the region. They are always more than happy to share their knowledge and expertise about their wines and suggestions on how to pair the wines with food. As with any Out In The Vineyard event surprises await all who attend to help create a truly magical afternoon.
Throughout the day light bites will be provided by Chef Chad of Classic Culinaire Caters. Always bringing the best of Wine Country cuisine to any event. Here Chef Chad gets to create food pairings that will make all the wines shine. Music will fill the air throughout the afternoon as you enjoy the food and wine pairings.
