lake Shelton, one of country music’s hottest performers and most engaging personalities, will pay tribute to members of our armed services and veterans on the holiday named in their honor. Audience members can wave the red, white and blue at songs such as “God’s Country”, which peaked at number one on Hot Country Songs in mid2019, “Hell Right”, a duet with Trace Adkins, “Nobody but You” and “Happy Anywhere,”, collaborations with wife Gwen Stefani, “I’ll Name The Dogs,” “Minimum Wage,” “Hillbilly Bone,” “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” “Came Here to Forget” and many others. In 2001, Shelton made his debut with the single “Austin.” The lead-off single spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified debut album also produced two more top 20 entries (“All Over Me” and “Ol’ Red”). His albums, “The Dreamer” and “Blake Shelton’s Barn & Grill,” went gold and platinum, respectively. His fourth album, “Pure BS,” was re-issued in 2008 with a cover of Michael Bublé’s pop hit “Home,” and his fifth album, “Startin’ Fires,” was followed by “Red River Blue, Based on a True Story...,” “Bringing Back the Sunshine,” “If I’m Honest,” “Texoma Shore” and “Fully Loaded: God’s Country.” Shelton has charted 40 singles, including 28 number ones. He has received nine Grammy Award nominations, including two for Best Country Album. Shelton is a coach on the NBC televised singing competition “The Voice,” who appears this season with his wife, Gwen Stefani. A member of his performing team has won in eight of 22 seasons. He was also named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2017, following in the footsteps of fellow “The Voice” coach Adam Levine. Opening the Veteran’s Day show will be artist MacKenzie Porter, a Canadian country singer, actress and songwriter. She has released one self-titled album and achieved four Canada Country number ones with “About You”, “These Days”, “Seeing Other People”, and “Pickup”. She is featured on Dustin Lynch’s number one Country Airplay hit “Thinking ‘Bout You”.

PICTURE PERFECT
West Coast Artists showcases original artworks and memorable cultural experiences By Alison Elsner
T
he Coachella Valley regularly transforms into a home for charming art colonies thanks to West Coast Artists’ art festivals. Two magnificent events are coming up in November, just in time for holiday shopping, each featuring a plethora of art, culture and a chance to visit with the artists in person as well as revisit the history of various art forms. Artwalk at Indian Wells, set for November 19 and 20, Ash Beheshti and the Desert Art Festival in Rancho Mirage, scheduled for November 25 through 27, will showcase the best-of-the-best artistic creations from 100 artLevi Selway ists presenting their original works. Exhibits will include paintings in acrylic, oils and watercolors, covering everything from traditional and nature scenes to modern and minimalist designs. Artists will also be displaying photography, etchings, sculpture in clay, glass, metal, stone and wood, fine crafts, turned wood, semiprecious jewelry, stained glass and an array of high-quality crafts such as fabric hangings and quilts. Decorative and functional pottery, raku, vessels and gourd art will also be available. Blown glass is always a popular installation, created by taking molten glass and blowing air through a hollow tube or blowpipe. Some artisans will actually blow the glass in their booths so that the public can watch the process, an ancient art dating back to between 200 BCE and 500 CE. Mixed media works will be on display, featuring 2-D and 3-D creations and collages with materials like newspaper, ribbons, photographs, fur, metal, plastic and others. This art form is credited to the early 20th century efforts of Braque and Picasso. Found art, or “objet trouvé,”, takes often-discarded objects (soda cans, buttons) and incorporates them into new artworks. This style was popularized by the conceptual artist Marcel Duchamp, proving that the value of an artwork can be redefined through creativity and reinterpretation. Guests are invited to saunter between artists’ booths against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and warm afternoon sun. Many pieces are one of a kind, and all works are available for purchase. Art Walk at Indian Wells takes place November 19-20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Village at Indian Wells, 74895 Highway 111 in Indian Wells. Desert Art Festival takes place November 25-27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The River at Rancho Mirage, 71800 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage. Parking is free and admission for both.
