‘Songs for a New World’ Auditions Theatre 29 to hold open audition through January 31

heatre 29 and Director Scott Clinkscales are holding open auditions for an online presentation of “Songs for a New World” through January 31. This will be Clinkscales’ second time directing for Theatre 29 having recently directed the smash hit musical comedy “Sister Act” in early 2020. Clinkscales is no stranger to adapting theatre during these times, having recently helped put together the “Home Edition” and “Home for the Holidays” virtual concerts for Theatre 29 with “Songs for a New World” assistant director Lisa Goldberg. “Songs for a New World” is a contemporary song cycle that weaves characters and history together, illuminating the timelessness of self-discovery. Written by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, the show is about that one moment. It is about hitting the wall and having to make a choice…or take a stand… or turn around and go back. stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams… and a soulless marriage. Clinkscales is looking for a powerhouse cast of 6 to 8 performers ages 18 and older of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders to take on this incredible show. With the show written as a song cycle, there are no specific characters. Those auditioning should submit a one-minute, self-taped contemporary pop/rock musical theatre song in the style of the
show along with their acting resumé and headshot to Director Scott Clinkscales by email at scott. clinkscales96@gmail.com. All auditions must be submitted by January 31, 2021 to be considered. With in-person performances not allowed because of Covid-19 protocols, this production will be filmed and presented online for audiences to stream from home. Streaming is tentatively scheduled to begin in April 2021 with filming to take place in mid to late March.
