S Resorts is thrilled to announce the official installation and grand unveiling dates for “Forever Marilyn” in Palm Springs. The beloved statue by Seward Johnson will be picked up at Seward Johnson Atelier in New Jersey on April 5. From there, she will begin a cross-country journey of one week on a flatbed truck, ending in Palm Springs on April 12. The team from the Seward Johnson Atelier will install the 26-foot-tall and 34,300-pound sculpture in a spectacular cranelift installation process on Museum Way, behind the Kimpton Hotel. A grand unveiling is slated for Sunday, April 18, with more details to follow. Aftab Dada, Chairman of PS Resorts, adds, “The Board of PS Resorts, along with our partners, has been working hard for years to make Marilyn’s return a real-

They never stop. Scammers are continually busy, and so must we be to stay one step ahead of them. Here are two more scams they’re trying to foist on us. If you’re still working and receive W-2 or 1099 forms, look them over very carefully. If it’s a 1099-G, that’s for unemployment benefits. Did you receive those benefits? If not, it means that a scammer has used your identity to collect benefits. Those 1099-G forms go to the IRS, and that income is taxable. Contact the unemployment office that issued the 1099-G and have them send a corrected form showing zero unemployment income. If you can’t get the corrected form in time, file your taxes without using that 1099-G dollar

amount and enclose a note saying you didn’t receive unemployment benefits. The IRS is well aware of this problem. Then send for your credit report, check it and put a freeze on your credit. In another new scam, if you do an online search for a big box store and the first result on the list says “Ad” in front of the store name, don’t click it. This scam is especially sneaky because if you click on the “Ad” link, you’ll initially go to a page that looks very real. It isn’t. Clicking it will take you to a site that may freeze your screen ... and provide you a handy phone number to call to have the problem fixed. The person at the other end is a scammer who will ask for permission to access your computer remotely. If you allow it, he’ll put a bug in your computer that locks everything up, and you’ll have to pay to get it released. Instead of doing a search, type in the Internet address of the store you want (call them if you’re not sure what it is) and go directly there. (c) 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

Invisibility, leprechauns and national pride tied to wearing green
ANSWER ON PAGE 6
Part of what makes celebrating St. Patrick’s Day so enjoyable is the scores of traditions surrounding the holiday. The month of March ushers in parades, festive foods, lively music, and as much green attire as a person can handle. As ubiquitous as it is each March, green attire has not always been symbolic of St. Patrick’s Day or Ireland. In fact, earlier depictions of St. Patrick had him royally clothed in a rich shade of blue. Some ancient Irish flags even sported the color blue. According to National Geographic, the color green became associated with St. Patrick’s Day in the 18th century, when the shamrock became a national symbol of Ireland. The color of the shamrock and Ireland’s natural landscape forever linked green to St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and the Emerald Isle. There are reasons for donning green clothing on St. Patrick’s Day. If a person isn’t in green, he or she just may get pinched. According to Irish folklore, leprechauns wore green, and if anyone else wore the color that individual would be in-
visible to leprechauns. Leprechauns are ornery sorts who like to pinch anyone they can see. Therefore, by wearing green clothing, a person is sure to avoid a painful tweak. It’s not only the leprechauns who might do the pinching. Celebrants are inclined to pinch people who don’t wear green as a reminder that leprechauns might sneak up on them at any time. Beyond shamrocks and leprechauns, other people are inclined to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day as a symbol of good luck and to honor their Irish ancestry. According to Brian Witt, the cultural exhibits coordinator for Milwaukee Irish fest, Irish Americans would wear green as a reminder that they are nationalists first and foremost. The Irish flag colors are green, white and orange. The green symbolizes Irish nationalism, the orange represents the “Orangemen” of Northern Ireland, which is an Irish Protestant political society, and the white symbolizes peace. Green is an integral color during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and it is tied to many different traditions. Randleman, North Carolina. In 1959, he won the Daytona 500. VA Extends Loan Forbearance Period Some of you are going to breathe a sigh of relief at this news: The Department of Veterans Affairs moratorium on evictions and foreclosures was due to end March 31, but it’s been extended to June 30. The extension is designed to keep you in your home while you sort out the damaging financial effects of the COVID pandemic. If you need forbearance (permission to miss payments or send a reduced amount), your lender is expected to grant you that for up
to six months. During this time there are to be no late fees or penalties, but interest will accrue. The deadline to ask for forbearance is June 30, 2021. If you can’t make up your missed payments all at once when you have income again, call the mortgage company. If you’re not comfortable doing that, call the VA loan people directly at 877827-3702. Your missed payments can’t just be pushed to the end of the loan period, but it is possible the loan could be modified. The VA allows loans to be extended under certain situations. Your credit score won’t take a negative hit during forbearance (not making payments), but only if you were current at the time you requested it. If you were already late on payments when you asked for help, then yes, they’ll continue to report you as delinquent during the whole period. That’s why
it’s important to stay ahead of the problem by asking for help before things spin out of control. You have three ways to keep your home: forbearance, a repayment plan or a loan modification. To talk to the VA about COVIDrelated loan payment problems, call them at 877-827-3702. If you’re a renter and are in danger of being homeless, call the VA immediately at 877-424-3838.
