‘Speak My Words, Tell My Truth’

Lorenz Qatava’s performing art piece premiers at Coachella Valley Repertory

C

oachella Valley Repertory in partnership with Brothers of the Desert presents: Speak My Words, Tell My Truth by Lorenz Qatava. This premier performing arts piece will take place on Thursday, April 29, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Register at cvrep.org. Part poetry, storytelling, and play, the dialogue of six characters who present the lives and works of Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Essex Hemphill, E. Lynn Harris, Tarrell Alvin McCraney, and others explore how their works influenced American cultural aesthetics, race relations, and its acceptance of homosexuality. Directing this 6-actor play is Yvans Jourdain, who is very grateful to be directing this virtual performing arts presentation. Yvans’ last directorial project was the critically acclaimed performance of Jenelle Lynn Randall in I Wanna Be Evil: The Earth Kitt Story, at the LA Fringe Festival. Taking on the roles of these historical figures includes Robert Banks Ramirez (Ask Any Girl) as Red Man; Charles Reese (Beauty and the Baller) as Blue Man, Allan Louis (Here Are the Fragments) as Green Man; John Lathan (The Capeman) as Beige Man; Andre Carthen (Dreamgirls, Ragtime) as Grey Man; and Anye Elite (I Got Him, Exclusively) as Purple Man.
