‘Rocky Horror Show’ cult lives again By Alison Elsner

T

his engaging musical channels the classic, “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” an entertainment film staple experienced by many of us in our teens as a midnight movie. This humorous romp is a titillating tribute to the parody science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s. On a wild and rain-swept lateNovember evening on an empty stretch of road in Ohio, prudish and boringly-innocent young couple Brad Majors and Janet Weiss find themselves stranded. The couple inadvertently encounters transvestite scientist, Dr. FrankN-Furter, just in time to partake in the unveiling of his most daring creation: Rocky Horror, a physical-

ly perfect muscle man complete with “blond hair and a tan.” Brad, Janet and the audience find themselves in for a night – and maybe a lifetime — of self-discovery. The original music, lyrics and book are by Richard O’Brien. The film is a cult favorite and is still shown in limited release 46 years after its premiere. It is the longest-running theatrical release in film history. In many cities live amateur shadowcasts dress in character and act out the film as it is being shown.

• David Babcock broke a Guinness World Record for his time in the Kansas City marathon, at 5 hours, 48 minutes and 27 seconds. But not for running -- he managed to complete the race while knitting a scarf that measured just over 12 feet long. As he said later, “Knitting the whole way really did help distract me from the hard parts of the marathon.”
