rawing inspiration from music all over the world and crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop, the band Pink Martini was founded in 1994 in Portland, Oregon and has now attracted a loyal global fan base. Their diverse repertoire is influenced by Cole Porter and Duke Ellington, Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat, as well as Argentine tango, Brazilian samba, Italian folk, Asian and romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s and ’50s. When founder, bandleader and pianist Thomas Lauderdale teamed up with singer China Forbes, they began to write songs together, creating their signature sound and style. Their first song, “Sympathique (Je ne veus pas travailler)” became an overnight sensation in France and was nominated for Song of the Year at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards. Featuring a dozen musicians with songs in 25 languages, Pink Martini performs its multilingual set on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America and North Amer-

ica. Pink Martini made its European debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 and has gone on to play with more than 70 orchestras around the world. Pink Martini has sold over three million albums worldwide on their own independent label Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale’s dog). The band released “Hang On Little Tomato” in 2004, “Hey Eugene!” in 2007, “Splendor In The Grass” in 2009 and “Joy to the World” in 2011. In 2016, Pink Martini released its ninth studio album, “Je Dis Oui!,” which features vocals from China Forbes, Storm Large, Ari Shapiro, fashion guru Ikram Goldman, civil rights ac-
tivist Kathleen Saadat and Rufus Wainwright. In 2018, Pink Martini released a special 20th Anniversary Edition of its first album “Sympathique,” and in 2019, the band collaborated on a new album release, “Hotel Amour,” with the international singing sensation Meow Meow. The band’s spirit celebrates the world’s nationalities, bringing joy as well as a sense of connection.
