alm Canyon Theatre (PCT) is presenting the classic story of “unrequited” love. While the film version is currently playing at the movie theatres, here’s your opportunity to see the live production on stage. Set in 1640 Paris, Edmond Rostand’s romantic drama Cyrano de Bergerac, tells the story of a gifted poet and swordman, with self-doubts and insecurities when it comes to his own prowess. Despite possessing many talents and a brilliant mind, the size of Cyrano’s nose, has him believing that he is not worthy of love and therefore unable to profess his love for the beautiful and intelligent
Roxane. Meanwhile, the Baron Christian de Neuvillete, whose handsome face compensates for his lack of wit and intellect, sets out to win the heart of the lady Roxane. Cyrano’s lack of confidence prompts him to instead help Christian court Roxane, by wooing her with his words, as though they were written by Christian, even though they were really written by Cyrano himself. Cyrano de Bergerac is directed by PCT founder, Dr. William J. Layne. The principal cast members include: Michael Pacas as Cyrano. Katrina Dixon as Roxane and Cameron Keys as Christian.
Cyrano de Bergerac runs March 31-April 3. For four nights only!. Show times are 7 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. We’ve now experienced our 2022 Social Security benefit amount for a couple of months, the 5.9% increase. How are you doing? The problem is that the COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) is calculated from July to September the year before. Yes, prices were inching up then, but by December, we were seeing the writing on the wall when the annual Consumer Price Index was already up 7%. Add to that the hefty Medicare Part B increase to cover the cost of Aduhelm, the Alzheimer’s drug most of us will never take. Even though the price was forced down (from $56,000 per patient per year to $28,200 per year), our increased Medicare cost per month won’t come down. Seniors, especially those who only have Social Security for income, are struggling, and not only at the grocery store. Heating costs, gas for our vehicles, furniture, clothing ... they’ve all gone up. The dilemma, some say, is that the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (which establishes
the Cost of Living Adjustment) doesn’t take into consideration our spending patterns. We don’t have the same needs as wage earners and clerical workers, and spend much more on medical and housing, for example. If you haven’t retired yet or if you still have a paycheck coming in, reconsider any plans you have for retirement until your savings are substantial. When you think you have enough, do an experiment before you stop working: Calculate your expected Social Security benefit per month and live on that amount for a long time, at least several months. Six months would be better. What looks fine on paper might not actually be fine when it comes to living on those limited dollars. And remember that the longer you wait before claiming Social Security, the higher your benefit will be when you do. (c) 2022 King Features Synd., Inc.

CREATE Center for the Arts to host fundraising event CREATE Center for the Arts is set to host its first large-scale fundraising event, The Blind Pig Experience, on April 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 73600 Alessandro Drive in Palm Desert. This speakeasy themed event is being held to raise funds for CREATE Center for the Arts and its mission to create community enrichment through the arts. Come on, get happy With the world in chaos, the kids at the Milford School in Wawasee, IN want us to accentuate the positive, reports the Association of Mature American Citizens. And so they’ve created a telephone hotline called When Life Gives You Lemons, Call a 5th Grader to help you do just that. Here’s the number; check it out: 574832-4965. Actually it was their teacher, Cheryl Can Laeken, who came up with the idea. As she explains it, “The world is really chaotic, it’s kind of dark. On the news it’s kind of hard to find a good news story to share with kids right now. I teach my kids to be positive and do good things for other people and this just seems like a really easy way to get my kids thinking about others.”
