THE ACADEMIC POST

The Beechtown High School Weekly Newsletter

PRINCIPAL'S NOTE: Dear Parents,

Assalam-u-Alaikum 2020 -Our unprecedented year has finally come to an end. Looking back, we can see the ways this year has tested us all. Though we had bleak moments, this was truly the year we realized the power of humanity and perseverance. Moving straight into the ‘New Normal’, we at BSS – Walton adapted to the changes required to continue living our lives with the Covid-19 pandemic the best we could. With the support and cooperation of our worthy parents & the dedication of our tremendous staff, we were able to ensure continuous schooling for our students throughout the year 2020. During the “Lock Down” and high infection months, we taught our students with the new blended program of online classes with Beaconhouse Schooling Uninterrupted (BSU) and in-person classes in the school building with the hybrid model of teaching and learning. We also supported our students having limited or no access to technology through written work in the notebooks. It is truly amazing to see the kind of effort put forth by our parents, staff and the students to make this endeavour a success. BSS learner profile attributes encourage students to develop the skills needed to succeed in the 21st century. To ensure that BSS students continue to thrive in a world where change is constant and learning never stops, it is imperative to provide opportunities to our students at national and international platforms through which they can develop the skills of collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving and more. Keeping that as our focus, we made sure that our students participated in online competitions throughout 2020. With the talk of vaccinations on the horizon, we hope and pray for a time where we may all come together again in person. We wish you all a very happy and safe new year. Happy Holidays!

Ingersollng We are delighted to announce it that our melodious rock star, Muhammad Bin Shahzad of VI Gold secured 2nd position in the Lip sync category of Atelier 2.5 hosted by BSS Garden Town.

Hitting 2nd POSITION AT VIRTUAL SCIENCE FAIR It is indeed a proud moment for us at Walton as our brilliant young student Muhammad Ferzaan Bukhari from grade VI Blue turned theory into a practical experiment and Secured 2nd position in the Virtual Science Fair organized by Beaconhouse Valencia Town Campus. Ferzaan participated in it and made a spinning car using recycled material and practically costing just the battery price. Taking a keen interest in science and balancing out different materials in such a way to make them work together is an achievement in itself, let alone to stand out among so many other outstanding competitors and gaining the second position. The young student executed the project on his own, the rules and guidelines of the fair were clearly briefed to him by his teachers while the rest of the hard work and effort was undoubtedly his own. The car is in complete working condition and turns a complete 360-degree spin. The materials used include old bottle caps for wheels, spare copper wires, a motor, an empty matchbox, and a 1.5 V battery.

Well done Ferzaan! Keep it up; we see a very bright future ahead for you. Really proud of our young scientist!

SCIENCE IS ORGANIZED KNOWLEDGE

No doubt our talented students know how to career their knowledge towards the right direction which can be fruitful not just for themselves but also for their surroundings as Our inspiring young scientist, Moin Arif, of VII Red BSS Walton Campus Lahore, has made a smart dustbin using Arduino, Ultrasonic Sensor and a Servo Motor. It is a simple but useful project called Smart Dustbin. Using this project, the lid of the dustbin stays closed, so that waste is not exposed (to flies and mosquitos) and when you want to dispose any waste, it will automatically open the lid. It gives us immense pleasure to see our young learners deeply engrossed in each and every subject, not even to miss out on Robotics to come up with this amazing project.

Way to go Moin ! Keep it up.

Ms. Maleeha Khawaja The Headmistress Middle School

Dear Parents, This academic year was quite a challenge for everyone! But in spite of all the odds, we managed to have a very successful year. This was due to the unconditional support from our respected Principal Ms.Tehmina Lodhi , the Beaconhouse Head Office, our amazing hardworking coordinators, teachers, and supportive parents of our dear students. The Lahore skies were covered with smog at the start of the new academic year. The students and the teachers got used to wearing masks and staying indoors. But who would have thought that after a few months, the whole world and our nation would be struck with another calamity, “Covid 19”. It was unbelievable that our lives came to a standstill. We all took it as a shock, we were not able to go to school, work, shop, or meet our friends even relatives. In this grim situation came a ray of hope for everyone ‘the BSU’-Beaconhouse Schooling Uninterrupted. Due to this, the students did not miss out on their studies and the teachers continued their routine of working from home and provided a hybrid style of education to the students with a synchronous and asynchronous approaches. We all learned a lot in this novel journey: from becoming completely digitally literate to holding mega-events like E-Mania, Virtual PTM, Virtual Online Competitions. All this would not have been possible without parentbody's persistent support, cooperation. Resultantly, an unforeseen difficult year came to a successful close as you advanced hand in hand with our exigent endeavours. We all feel happy and grateful to you that in this unsettled and distressed situation under the lingering shadow of pandemic we were able to provide academics as well as co-curricular activities to our dear students through BSU Google Classrooms. Achieving this worthy objective would not have been possible without your valuable wholehearted support and selfless tiring efforts of our dedicated and hard-working teachers, our real heroes. My salute to all our teachers.
