E-Newsletter July 2020 (COVID-19) The First Word Dear Parents, Life as we know has changed for now and what kind of a new normal can we expect for our learners during the next stages of COVID-19! Toddlers We have laughed, played, learned and enriched, our lives by enjoying activities such as hopscotch game, letter sound object scavenger hunt, water rainbow experiment and more. Our Toddlers loved to engage in sensory play at school like sponging, spooning, sand play and pouring based on different ongoing themes like Clowning Around, Up up Away, Farm and Fun, Blue Day, Around the Sea Shore, Wind and Storms, Over and Under the Rainbow, Wild Animals, Summer Showers, Senses and Emotions. Our smart mathematicians have strong understanding of numbers 1-7 and their values and a variety of concepts like heavy/light and big/small. Little artists can recognize and name rainbow colours, did amazing marble printing, chalk painting and felt excited while doing collage work. Just play the music, and see them happy while singing and dancing on their favourite poems which are I like to move it move it, baby shark and minions banana song. Little Yogis also stretched and relaxed themselves by performing different physical activities.

It's Goose's birthday! In an activity related theme of Communication, Language and Literacy, PreNursery students celebrated a party which they had arranged for Goose. This helped them understand how to plan, arrange an event and carry out a birthday party. Also the concept of sharing, caring and giving gifts was reinforced. In Mathematical Development, students were introduced to language and vocabulary related to days of the week. They counted the food items the caterpillar ate on each day. Moreover, they had fun in a hands on activity in which they explored the concept of "Money" through a Shopping activity. The learners and their teachers set up a wide range of shops and enjoyed role- playing, buying and selling. With relation to Knowledge & Understanding of the World and finding more about different animals and their babies, sound, colour and size, students were taken to Virtual tour of the Zoo and shared their observations. They also wore and prepared animal masks.


Nursery News In Communication, Language and Literacy, learners enhanced their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through various activities. They learned to blend, read and write three letter words and their names. They created and shared their own stories. This was facilitated through different technological resources and hands-on experiences which were incorporated in their everyday life. In Mathematical Development, use of interactive technology in online classes on BSU platform, promoted student’s engagement in learning about numbers. Students acquired new mathematical skills using innovative and fun Apps. They gained understanding of 2-D and 3-D shapes, money, addition/subtraction and sequencing numbers 0-50. In Urdu, students learned haroof -e- tahaji, hum awaz haroof and identified the beginning haroof of their names. They also learned about creating stories (takhliqi kahani) and sequencing events of a story. In Knowledge and Understanding of World, learners explored ways to improve their environment. They enjoyed planning special events for their loved ones through live interactive sessions. They investigated, experimented and collected data about living things i.e. Plants and Animals.

Kindergarten In Communication, Language and Literacy, students celebrated activities with relation to the themes; “Up and Away”, “Dinosaur”, “Pajama Party” and “The DinoWorld Party”. They spent time learning diagraphs such as an, ch, er, ir, ur, ee and reading new words. It was a pleasure to see most of them writing sentences now. Moreover, students learnt naming words, action words and describing words. Through, Rising Star Mathematics; students developed mathematical proficiency in an encouraging atmosphere for learning. They used the basic operations in normal classroom setting, such as sharing cookies by subtracting and dividing the original numbers to ensure they have the same number of treats. Students discovered 3-D shapes using wooden solid blocks and real life objects and also learnt to measure height. They also explored time by using clocks independently. Furthermore, in Knowledge and Understanding of the World students learned the characteristics of animals and their young ones, life cycle of a butterfly and a plant. They observed the effects of temperature on different materials, analysed and recorded “the sounds they heard “within the school premises. Students took part in various Urdu related activities such as role- play. They also learned to read and write, two and three letter syllables. 3|Page


Art & Craft Pre Nursery enjoyed and engaged in a variety of Art & Craft activities which were demonstrated live by Ms. Kiran. They enjoyed bubble wrap painting& printing and stamping. They created 3D flashlight models and animal masks. They also designed Summer Hats using different decorative materials. Nursery students made home-made playdough. The highlight of the art classes was the floating sailboats which were a treat to see. Kindergarten learners worked independently and indulged in imaginative free-hand drawings. They also, created their own graduation caps. A remarkable participation was observed in a Virtual Art Competition –Sounds in Nature in which they made dazzling Wind Chimes using different recyclable and decorative material. Here, we would like to extend a special thanks to both the parents for all the effort they have put in to provide the art supplies timely and helping in completing all the art projects.

Sports Fest 2020 Pre Nursery students practiced ‘Bunny Hops’ in order to develop their foot and leg muscles, which helped them to build coordination and balance. Along with this they all participated in a variety of games and exercises like jumping forward and backwards over the rope, refining their eye and hand coordination by aiming at bottles, skipping and engaging in a zig-zag walk. Nursery students eagerly participated in the Virtual Sports Fest Competition, where they practiced and demonstrated jumping over the rope, crawl under a table along with a number of hurdles available at home. This helped them to overcome the obstacles using a combination of different moves. Kindergarten students developed the ability to throw in various range with accuracy. Playing with balls improved their motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and timing, which were important for their developmental progression. They also practiced squat jumps and to move at different speeds and in various directions while maintaining balance. 4|Page


Music & Movement Students enjoy music, especially when Sir Rayyan plays his musical instruments, the keyboard, guitar, tambourine and sometimes shakers. He ensures that all the students have a good time and there is maximum participation by all. In the music class, students learn to work as a team in the form of a choir, they learn to share and learn how to be creative in a group environment. Our Rock Stars of Pre Nursery celebrated Instruments Day with full enthusiasm and fervour. They wore charming costumes and played their favourite musical instruments. Nursery and Kindergarten students were introduced to vocal warm up exercises, including western solfege with the related hand signs. Mostly they spent time singing their favourite rhymes following the musical beats and rhythm.

Our Pre-Nursery students enjoyed the online Puppet Theatre, the most, during the library session along with a variety of story narrations. We celebrated Fairy-Tale Week, Father’s Day and much more. Nursery learners participated enthusiastically in the Online Reading Competition-Little Genius: Let’s Blend & Read. This proved quite fruitful and we received constructive feedback from the parents that they now see their children trying to blend and read all the print and words around their environment. Our Kindergarten learners spent time celebrating Eric Carle Week, read and listened to a few of his titles. They also prepared a Summer Drink-Zesty Lemonade! This was in continuation to their story-telling session – Lemonade Stand.
