Dear Parents, The first term comes to a successful end. Thank you for a memorable term. Every term brings in hope and commitment to do better. We aim at developing collaborative, engaged and independent learners. Co-curricular activities are a source of personality development of students. It has been so exciting to be involved in a number of activities organized in the school and by various other organizations. Our staff is always geared up to give the students exciting learning experiences so that they learn with full enthusiasm. For this they have been involved into training and professional development programmes to provide effective learning environment to the students. However, we cannot achieve our goals without the cooperation and support of parents. We always welcome your valuable suggestions to work towards a better future. News & Events Orientation To apprise the parents of the new admissions about the system and policies of the school, an orientation meeting was held on 9th August, 2014. Parents got an opportunity to discuss their queries about examination procedure, homework policies etc. While the parents attended the session children who accompanied them enjoyed a story session with Ms. Zoya in the library.

International Day of the Girl Child The whole school was resonating with the message of equal rights for the girls on 11th October, 2014 which is marked as the International Day of the Girl Child by the United Nations. Students celebrated the day with a commitment to take the message to the community. They performed role plays, sang songs and shared their views about the rights of the girls in the light of sayings of the Holy Quran and Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) .The highlight of the event was presentation of the special balloons with messages written for girls by the boys who vehemently spoke about the equal rights for girls.

Spelling bee Like past years this year also our students participated in the Dawn Spelling Bee .The three member team comprising Laiba Sahi ,Fizza Zuberi and Zain Chinoy prepared devotedly for the contest and qualified the Regional Round. Well done Students, you have done us proud!

Library Day Revival of students’ interest in book reading in this era of technology needs strong stimulation. Celebration of a colorful library day was aimed at achieving this target. Students selected stories class wise and prepared role plays and quizzes .The quiz based on guessing story characters presented by students of Class I was thoroughly enjoyed by ever yone.

Excursion trips Prize Distribution Ceremony A special ceremony was held at Usman Institute of Science and Technology on 21st August, 2014 to acknowledge and celebrate the persistent efforts of our high achievers. Students of grade IV and V who secured highest marks in different subjects in the End of Year Examination 2014 attended the ceremony with their parents. The gleaming excitement on their faces while receiving prizes was indeed a sight to behold.

Understanding the past As part of their Social Studies lesson Ways of Life in the Past students of Grade IIIs and IVs had an opportunity to interview Mr. Rasheed Gohar who was invited as a guest speaker. He shared a number of artifacts from his own life and helped students visualize the past through his detailed answers and interesting anecdotes. As a wrap up treat students got to have a close observation of his antique Foxy Wagon and study the difference between modern and vintage cars.

Excursion trips provide students opportunities of gaining learning experiences outside the classroom. Students get a chance to build close bonds with their classmates and experience new environments. This year students of class Is and IIs went to watch Dolphin Show .Their excitement and surprised facial expressions while watching dolphins do amazing tricks were simply adorable. Students of class IIIs visited Metro Cash & Carry. They were allowed to bring some amount for shopping so they shopped to their hearts content but had to take out items beyond their budget while billing thus learning an important life lesson. Students of class IVs visited National Museum to have a close look at the artifacts found in Moenjodaro and Harrappa. Students of Class Vs visited Mohatta Palace and had the opportunity to see rare maps like world’s first map.

Trailblazers Beaconhouse School Group II celebrated students achievements at the provincial, national, or international levels in curricular and co curricular competitions at Agha Khan University hospital auditorium. Ms Ayesha Tammy Haq , a wellknown anchor person and a lawyer by profession was the chief guest at the occasion.

Project Based Learning Gulshan Primary IV had their Culmination Day of the project based reader ‘My Mum is Lost’. The theme of the event revolved around the concept ‘Essential Safety for Kids’ where students presented a photo story which showed all the activities in which they have been involved throughout. Students also briefed the parents about the interview session they had with a security officer who gave them first hand knowledge about safety measures and tips which could be followed. They also sang a song related to the theme and presented a role play. Students work was displayed and they took the parents on a gallery walk to show them all the hard work which they have done during this unit. The students along with teachers had really put in a lot of efforts to make this day a success. This unit was not only learning between student and teacher but the parents were also involved and had a part in home assignments. Parents appreciated the students’ confidence and were delighted to see their child perform.

Abdullah Malik for being the Super Green Angel for Green Living Quiz. Minnah Faisal for achieving 1st Position at district level in Grade 1 for International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest. Amna Ahmed for winning the ar t work contest for the cover page of Urdu work book. Hamna Ahmed & Hiba Ahmed for poem published in Young World . Wasay Ahmed, Ammar Ali Damani, Emaan Khan, Eisha Mir, Bisma Kamal, Ali Haider & Huzaifa Ahmed for Kangaroo Mathematic Contest.

Primary Inter Branch Debate Competition Students explored their talent in the art of debating through an Inter Branch English Debate Competition organized by BSS Clifton Campus. The topic for debate was ‘Career choices should be based on academic scores rather than interest areas.’ The topic though a bit challenging, for the students at this level, was well received and it was encouraging to see that they came up with strong arguments to prove their point of view. To decide upon the contestant from SGII Hiba Ahmed and Muneeb-ur- Rahman represented the branch at the preliminary round and they both got selected due to their strong delivery and confidence for the final round where Hiba Ahmed spoke for the motion and won a consolation prize.

Inter Section Debate Competition

All the students who prepared for the Inter Branch Debate contest got a chance to compete in an Inter Section Debate Competition at the branch. It was a successful event and students' discipline remained commendable. The debaters were confident and they spoke convincingly both for and against the motion. Student Council Elections Running elections at school provide students the opportunity to participate in the democratic process of choosing representatives for a range of purposes. Candidates for the position of Head Girl, Head Boy and Prefects are selected on the basis of points scored against the set criteria. They are interviewed by the in charge teachers to assess their potential to manage extra responsibilities. This year the process of elections at the branch was organized by Ms Sadia Hassan and Ms Hareem Akhter. Candidate were given one week for canvassing and to share their ideas and plans through speeches during morning assembly and discussions during activity time. They made posters, hand bands, badges along with their supporters to ensure victory.Students were guided by their teachers about making right decisions while selecting candidates.

Global Dignity Day Focusing on the worth, honor and respect of human beings, Global Dignity Day celebrated on October 15was the culmination of activities done in class by the students. Teachers planned special lessons to help students understand the meaning and principles of dignity .Students made posters .board displays and performed lively role plays to share the message of human dignity.

Budding Artists Art is strong medium of self-expression. Our students always look forward to sharing their imagination using colors. Artist of the Year competition was one such contest in which students depicted the future of Pakistan. 19 of our students participated and most of them secured A grades.

Annual Sports Day Students Annual Spots Day was a kaleidoscope of colors and energy planned around the theme ‘Eat Healthy Think Healthy’. Students synchronized movements during the welcome dance, PE Display, aerobics and smooth transition from one formation to another were highly applauded by the audience. Students demonstrated their skills of self defence and counter attack through application of punching ,jumping, and blocking actions in Taekwondo display .Our little gymnast turn themselves into a human pyramid by standing on each other’s shoulders and put everybody in awe. They put their best foot forward during the track events and accepted the results with sportsman spirit. Class I trip to Dolphin Show
