MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Frisco book club aids animals at Operation Kindness By KAREN EMMETT Contributor
A group of bookworms recently gave animals at Operation Kindness needed items and much more. Members of Frisco’s Peace Love Books, a group of 10-year-olds, decided they wanted to continue to help the Carrollton no-kill animal shelter to which they donated almost $1,000 last summer. This time, they wanted to donate their time, as well as money. The girls worked together to sell homemade dog treats in May, raising $250. In June, they took the money and shopped for the animal shelter’s most needed items,
such as paper towels, hand sanitizer, cat beds and detergent. Then, on July 14, they arrived at the shelter in the early morning with the supplies they bought and were ready to help get the shelter ready to open. The club members walked dogs, spent quality time with each pup, sorted newspapers, cut bandanas and took inventory. It was a hot, but the girls didn’t seem to mind; they said they had been looking forward to this day all year long. Karen Emmett contributes to neighborsgo.com on behalf of Peace Love Books club.

PETS OF THE WEEK
Breed: beagle mix Seymour is a 2-year-old, 40-pound beagle mix who — even though he was given up by his family — is super happy. Nothing fazes him. He loves exploring new places and meeting new friends, whether two- or more legged. This handsome boy loves to play and would do best in a home with another playful dog his size or as an only dog in an active family. He is housetrained and already knows basic commands like sit, no and off. He loves to go on walks and does great on a leash. So if you are looking for a handsome hunk of hound to take for long walks and love for the rest of his life, Seymour could be just the dog for you. Information provided by the Frisco Humane Society.

Chaps and Spur were born in April, and these two brothers have become known for their purr. The two were rescued from a local kill shelter where they were top on the list to be euthanized. Thankfully, they were rescued and have grown up strong and healthy in a foster home. Chaps and Spur are happy, friendly little guys who demand to be in your lap, and if they’re not there, they’re trying to get there. They aren’t needy, but they love to be where you are. These boys also love to sleep on the bed with you. Spur has white toes on his back paws and will play fetch. Chaps has a medium-long haired smoky coat and loves to investigate and do crazy yoga poses while sleeping in your lap.
