.winter solstice.
The word solstice comes from the Latin word sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still) “Sun Stands Still”. The Sun reverses its apparent annual north-south motion. Its progress in the sky changes direction in the same point of the horizon and that is why it appears to stand still, for a few days.
The solstices (and the equinoxes) are the result of the interplay between Earth’s tilt and its orbit around the Sun.
This expansion and contraction of the daylight hours throughout the year reminds me that we are part of a rhythm, whether we are willing to see it or not.
What happens if we are not integrating this rhythm in our life?
Life lacks rhythm, missing out the contrast between doing and stillness, outwards and inwards. But this oscillation is natural and healthy, this oscillation is productive and sustainable. This oscillation is part of our nature.
Upon these thoughts I’ve been putting together a little serie to mark the start of the season, a series to remember the rhythm we are all part of as humans.

.About me.
Hi I am Bea! an artist, lighting designer and creativity guide based in North London, UK. Art, design and creativity are the main disciplines through which I investigate visual perception, human psychology and physiology.
In 2020 I’ve founded, through collaboration with Anna (artist and architect) and Giuliana (yoga and meditation teacher), Meraki mindful painting a community of creatives that sensitizes people to their instinctual creativity through abstract painting and mindfulness workshops.
I see art making as a process of discovering, creating new experiences and bringing back memories. My art wants to stimulate imagination and awaken creativity.
