letter from the EDITOR

Hello Beautiful ,

Welcome to the wonderful month of April. April always reminds me of bright, happy flowers. I love flowers. I love plants. I wish that I had more time to understand the differences in plants and how they grow. I would love to have a huge garden with flowers and fruit trees and all other beneficial plants. Planting and gardening take patience. It takes time, lots of time, for plants and flowers to grow from the seed that they start out as until they become the bright, beautiful plants that we enjoy. Plants do not talk but I bet if they did they would share with us their growing experiences. Thinking about all that the plant has to go through to get from seed to full-grown plant is overwhelming. It is painful. It is dark. It is intense. It is very similar to what we go through as humans. We often have to GROW through things. We grow physically as plants do but we also have several other levels that we have to grow on. This makes being a human complicated and often painful. However, just as the beautiful flowers, once we have completed our growing process, all of the pain is well worth it when we see the beauty that is brought forth unto the other side. This month is all about GROWTH. We are going to share stories of growth and give some advice for when you have seasons of growth. May you learn, and grow from this magazine.

XOXO,

Who/What has really helped you become the person you are today?

My family and the many different circumstances I have faced in life have helped shape me. Most importantly, God has shaped me. He has been my anchor throughout my entire life.

What was your favorite part of growing up?

My favorite part about growing up was when family would be all together. I loved holidays and family reunions. Life just felt very full and complete.

Have you been cut yet. . . What’s in your garden? By: Arnette German

12

13

Any Gardner...well, a good Gardner will inform you that the key in cultivating and obtaining an attractive, yet, healthy and fruitful garden isn’t just making sure you sow your seeds in the right season to ensure a bountiful harvest during harvest time. Nor is just seeding in the right soil, tilling, fertilizing and watering the soil, nor snatching up those pesky and ugly weeds that sprout up every now and then. But he or she will definitely make mention of Pruning. Pruning, to “trim (a tree, shrub or bush) by cutting away dead or overgrown branches or stems, especially to increase fruitfulness and growth,” is an inevitable process of growth. Which leaves me to ask you, “have you been cut yet...what’s in your garden?” Often times, due to not wanting to be clipped “cut” every once in a while from the shrubs of familiarity, contentment, fear, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, entitlement, mediocrity, procrastination, childhood/favorite besties, the norm, mundane habits, disappointment, lack of trusting and loving others and ______________________, (you can add to the list if need be), is the primary answer in why your gathering or manifestation yielded nothing in return. Yes, your gift makes room for you but the wrong application of yourself/gift, in the wrong environment...coupled with no “changes” or shaving away of removing the things, practices, concepts, ideas and/or people thwarting your growth is a guarantee in not growing. I mean weeds “grow” too...right? So, again, I ask differently, “What is in your garden? Have you been cut yet”?

14

15

I get it. That first time the trimming started, it didn’t feel good. It. Hurt. The ending of a friendship or relationship that you knew was air tight, that betrayal took the life out of you...causing you to experience an avalanche of emotions that seemingly was the proprietor or ringleader of a snowball effect of other things to crash down quickly (i.e. lost job, friends and family wanting you to get back out there and but you adamantly keep saying you’re not ready). But really you’re “not being ready” is simply fear. Fear is the weed that has overtaken your heart and mind; blocking the growth by fertilizing your mind with being content with being “alone” because at least you know you. You wholeheartedly love you. You can even trust yourself and effortlessly place your faith in you, because you won’t disappoint and/or hurt you. Again, I get it. Better yet, I understand. No one voluntarily subjects himself/herself to pain. Trust...it’s dutifully noted. But, did you know, the beauty of (or the blessing) in being pruned is that you survived the hard part. The catastrophe of it all... all you have to do now is cut (bring to an end) what is and/or has been feeding the wrong and unwanted parts by growing unnecessarily and taking over you! Know that pruning allows the “good thing” to take center stage...why not let it be you!? Why not experience a natural high and joys from your harvest through sound investments made by the correct application of you: your gifts and talents? So, in closing, tender heartedly, I ask, “Have you been cut yet...what is in your Garden?”

Normalcy In the Net of,

By: Xiomara Eve Montalvo

“Diamond, isolated on White 20

Imagine yourself seeing life through the eyes of someone, or something beyond yourself. Quite unimaginable, right? Our lives are fashioned and engraved with patterns and routes that we never have the need to second guess ourselves. We go to Walmart and expect to find gallons of milk in the refrigerator waiting for us to buy them. Each day we wake up without ever doubting that we would otherwise. This normalcy of red and green lights signaling stops and go’s has become part of a rhythm composed in such a way that we can easily fall in step to it. Although the cost of living on a daily is a challenge for us all, the normalcy of everyday life has become so easy. Alarms, minute hands, and numbers have dictated the manner of how we are to live. Punching in and punching out. Walking in and walking out. Waking up and going back to sleep. We like to hear that we are one in a million, but the truth is we are one in a group of a million others doing all the same thing. How can we snap out of this catchy tune and gain control of how we want to live our lives? Personally, I am kind of on the short side of things, 5’2” to be exact. But even though my dream of being 6 feet tall did not become a reality, I have not allowed this number to be a defining factor of who I am. We like to fit ourselves into boxes thinking that this is what is best, this is what is safe. Normalcy. We use these safeguards as means of never finding a reason to take the training wheels off of the bicycle. We need to realize that as humans we are more complex than that. We are more than a pattern reproduced to act the same and do the same thing. We are able to accomplish things greater than we have ever imagined. It is the perfect time to grow along with the new season. Grow beyond the construct of the routine that has built its walls around us. Growth is more than the physical height of each individual. Growth cannot be contained by numbers on a scale or a percentage on a paper. The unique thing about us humans is that we are capable of growing not only outwardly but on so many planes of depth within ourselves. We expand our knowledge through studies, increase our wisdom through experience, develop relationships through companionship, deepen our love through empathy, and so much more. As we grow in age, we are molded and matured through all we go through, but let us not get caught up in the net of normalcy. Be a breakthrough! Go out of your way and live your life to the fullest.

Growing Pains By Karissa Hagemeister

29

Growing up

there was a tv show that I really enjoyed watching called “Growing Pains.” It starred Kirk Cameron and Leonardo Dicaprio appeared in it occasionally. It was depicting the pains that come with growing up as teenagers. The pains of growing never really stop, though. As long as we are alive, there is always going to be some growing to do. This is what we are going to talk about with the Proverbs 31 study of verses 29 through 31.

Proverbs 31:29-31 NK JV

“Many daughters have done well but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.” In reference to verse 29, how do you “excel them all?” Excelling above others does not occur overnight. It cannot be granted by the Queen or given by someone

30

else. It can only be earned by putting in the time and effort. By allowing yourself to go through the stages and process of growing, throughout your lifetime, you can be one that excels above them all. There are many things in this world that hinder growth. There are many things that people turn to so that they do not have to fully experience the growth taking place in their lives. People turn to other relationships to cover pain of growth and it stops their growth in its tracks. They turn to alcohol and drugs so that they numb the pain and the experience of growing and it stops their growth right where they are. I have read numerous studies that show when people drink alcohol or do drugs, they stop growing mentally and emotionally. Alcohol actually causes your brain to slow down.

Be the One the Excels Above

Growth, trials and testing in this life are all meant to shape our character, to shape us into the women that we were meant to be. When your character has been molded and shaped, you will be one of the women that excels above them all and one of them that “her own works praise her in the gates.”

Every single person on this planet has been placed where they are, during this time in history for a specific reason, a purpose. The majority of people go through life, mimicking what their parents did or following the person in front of them. They go through life without ever experiencing what it means to really live and excel at the thing that God created them to be. They feel incomplete, because they have not allowed GROWTH to have its perfect work in their life. Growth is the process that we must go through, the journey that we must take to make it to our purpose.

a difference and most of the time I just feel alone in the whole thing. But I know that if I can make it through this stage of growth for me and the magazine, the reward will be very great. And I know that I will be one of those women that God says, “You have excelled them all, daughter.” I will reach the point where the works that I do and the work that my staff does with this magazine will be praised and will bring praise to God all over the world. This is why I continue to go through this difficult season of growth. I want to live in and live out my purpose on this earth before it is too late.

Growth Hurts

As verse 30 says, charm and beauty can only get you so far in this life and will only last so long. But in fearing the Lord, we will get the praise and give God the praise through our lives. In fearing the Lord, we will allow him to take us through the seasons of growth and difficulties. In fearing the Lord, we will walk into our purpose and live it out to its full. In fearing the Lord, we will excel above them all.

Growth is normally not a fun process to go through by any means. It hurts. But it is needed if we are going to move forward and step up to the call that God has placed upon us. Right now, I am trying to live out the purpose that God has for me. A big part of that purpose is this magazine. It is very difficult. I am working endlessly to grow this magazine and it’s audience. I am working to spread the Beautiful message world wide. A lot of time goes into this but being where we are right now, not much money comes in. Sometimes I want to quit and throw in the towel because it is difficult, because I cannot afford to buy things that I need, because I feel like it is not making

No Pain, No Gain

My challenge for you ladies for the month of April is to allow Growth to have its painful way in your life. Go through the “growing pain” process to reach the “growing gains” on the other side. Remember, no pain no gain.

dauntless GROWTH

NO PAIN, NO GAIN by Arman Irani

48

T

his months Dauntless spotlight lands on Moses from the Old Testament. The story of Moses’ life takes up so many chapters in the Old Testament, it almost seems like he lived forever. His life was not without trials and seasons of growth by any means.

I

feel bad for the guy, honestly. He had to spend 40 years in the wilderness with God’s chosen people who did nothing but complain and get into trouble the whole time. Talk about growing pains! That would be a real pain. Not to mention the actual journey should have only taken about two weeks according to google maps… but trust me when I say God knows what he is doing.

people suffered as slaves. That has got to be a tough mental dayin and day-out battle.

O

ne day when he was older, Moses just snapped. He saw an Egyptian man beating one of his own and killed the guy (this is before Scarface… “say ello to my little friend”). After that he decided to run from the kingdom. This was one of his big growth moments. He made a decision to go against Pharaoh by killing one of his slave drivers. He had to flee from the lap of luxury that he was used to and go wonder in the desert until he found a family that accepted him. I have never experienced luxury to that degree but I bet it was a big reality shock to him when he left. He went from having everything to nothing.

W

hen Moses was born, Pharaoh had sent out a decree to kill all new baby boys. His mother, a protective woman, put him into a basket and into the sea. Pharaoh’s daughter found him floating and decided to keep him (the holy spirit at work.. No doubt). He grew up as a Jew in the Egyptian kingdom, a land full of idol worshipers. He was treated as royalty while his 49

However, God was just beginning with young Moses. He appeared to him in a burning bush (not that kind) and told Moses that he had a special assignment for him. He was to go back to Egypt and free God’s chosen people. Moses did not take this idea well. He made up many excuses as to why he was not the man for the job. In the end, God won and Moses headed back to Egypt. God did not make things easy for Moses either (talk about Dauntless training 101). That is not the way growth works. He hardened Pharaoh’s heart for 10 different plagues that God sent to Egypt. Finally with the 10th, Pharaoh let the 50

Israelites go. He did not let them get too far before he sent his chariots after them. Talk about a stubborn attitude, as if 10 different plagues on your people wasn’t enough of a reason to let Moses go. What happens next is really awesome! The Israelites come up to the sea and they have the Egyptians hot behind them. God instructed Moses to lift his staff above the sea and the water splits right down the middle allowing the Israelites to walk across on dry ground. Do you think Moses would have had enough faith to trust God for this miracle if he did not go through the growing process with the 10 plagues that God released over the Egyptians?

That would be a big, Tall NO! Each plague was increasing Moses faith in God. God would give Moses instructions on what to do to release the plague and Moses had to act out of faith believing that God would do all he said he would do. God came through every time. Moses gained an amazing relationship with God through these seasons of growth. He was the leader of all the Israelites. The story does not end there, though. Moses had a chance to enter the Promised Land. That was the land that he was to bring the Israelites to. He had followed God diligently in the wilderness. He moved and acted

whenever God told him to. But near the end of his life, he got fed up with them and acted outside of God. He did not allow God to help him grow through that moment. That single act took away his gain of entering the Promised Land. In this life where growing is a must, there is no gain if we do not go through the pain of growing first. Remember that Abba has a purpose for your life. Don’t think any less. We each get one and it is unique and special to us. Don’t give up before your story has even started to unfold, stay Dauntless!

letter from the EDITOR

Hello Dauntless, This month’s theme for the magazine is GROWTH. Growing is always painful but when we go through the process, we gain even more. Weight lifting and growing through life have a lot in common. Working out in the gym is one of my favorite ways to spend some quality time with God and myself. I enjoy watching my body transform one rep at a time. However, with weight lifting you have to go through the process of lifting heavier weights. You have to experience the pain of your muscles growing. After a while, all of the pain gives way to some serious gains. It is always worth it. The same thing with life. It is painful to grow, but what you gain afterwards is always worht it. I challenge you this month to allow God to take you through whatever season of growth you need to go through. Ask him what you need, what he has promised and watch him come through for you. Watch as the pain from growth, brings much gain into your life. Be Dauntless! Peace out,

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman follow
