letter from the EDITOR
ello,
BEAUTIFUL & DAUNTLESS, I cannot believe that we have already made it to the halfway point of 2018! Time continues to fly by. June is here and with it comes beauty in the form of fragrant flowers, a light breeze blowing through the leaves of trees, and warm, sunny days. With June also comes the color LAVENDER, which is the color of the month. Lavender, as well as its meaning, will be displayed throughout the pages of this month’s issue. We will discuss transparency, vulnerability and do a little dabbling with fragrance. But before we dive in, let me take a moment and wish all the fathers out there a very Happy Father’s Day! Thank you for taking your job as a father seriously. The world is lacking heavily in the realm of fathers, so we all appreciate you taking the time to love and raise your children appropriately. Also, I want to say Happy Father’s Day to my very own dad! I love you so very much and would not trade you for anything in the world. XOXO,

feature STORY
Everything is about Lavender for the month of June for the Bringing Beautiful Back
Family. Probably because there is power in Lavender. From its fragrant healing aspect, a whiff of Lavender oil improves brain function, sleep and reduces anxiety and emotional stress to name a few. More so, symbolic to love, devotion and purity…transparency and vulnerability are additional softer and more delicate hues of Lavender, too. Vulnerability, an exploitable and fragile emotion, is sturdily built upon weakness. And sadly, once this state has been discerned by the “wrong” one i.e. frenemy and/or anyone that seeks their “profit” through you, yet, not authentically “investing” in you by wanting you-is not the chic side of Lavender you want to be on. Yes, past fears, doubts, hurts and betrayals can cause you to easily be adorned in this particular “softer and delicate” state. But, it is in this state that is the most detrimental to yourself. How so? As Pastor Henry L. Porter, II of Westcoast Church for Human Development in Sarasota, FL stated, “any relationship without requirements is exploitable. But, betrayal teaches you to deal with reality”. So yes, it stung. But the ability to admit it hurt…in order to move on…is the fashionable, yet, healing side of Lavender. Accurately identifying who people are in your life, knowing their roles in your life, learning the lesson from the hurt and/or betrayal, forgiving knowing that an apology may not come at all, is the power from Lavender. And it is only after walking in the power of Lavender, one elegantly remembers Lavender is simply a shade of Purple that is associated with royalty, wealth, luxury, independence, passion, fulfillment and spirituality. Now, this my friends, is the right side of Lavender to not only be sophisticatedly draped in but the power to embrace and walk in-daily.
Say Lavender!

n a Sunday afternoon of April 8, 2018, Fashion Designer Lisa Nieves presented and produced her first solo show, “Seasons Change Fashion Show,” an event which showcased both her spring collection 2018 titled “Bloom”(dedicated to Puerto Rico and all its beauty) and her Fall collection 2019 titled “Cold as Ice.” This is the first time a designer showcases 2 collections from different seasons in one event and that was exactly her goal, to show the audience the difference in seasons with textiles, colors, and silhouettes. Part of the proceeds from this event went out to the foundation Veterans Disaster Relief and their relief effort for the people in Puerto Rico. Lisa invites you to next years event on the first Sunday of April 2019 for another amazing show with a whole new twist.
The first, second and fourth designs are a part of the “Cold a Ice” collection. 17 The third is from the “Bloom” collection.

adies, we need to talk.
One of the main reasons behind the “Beautiful” in Beautiful & Dauntless is we are encouraging women to accept and embrace the beauty that they have been given. It is one thing to embrace your body and love it as it is, but it is another thing to flaunt it all over the web. These two things do not coincide. Hear me out before you decide to flip the page. Your body is amazing and gorgeous and it is one-of-a-kind. I know that you want others to notice it and to see the beauty that you behold, but posting nude pictures (or butt and boob pictures) is not going to give you the desired results. Let’s talk
22
reasonably for a moment. Some of you ladies that post nude pictures will argue that you accept your body, do not need anybody else’s acceptance, and therefore are not ashamed and have the right to post naked pictures. First, let’s really think about this because what you are saying and what you are doing are contradicting each other. Really think about why you are posting nude or partially nude pictures on social media. Could it be any of the following reasons? A: Because everyone else is doing it? B: You want to feel better about yourself? C: You want to feel validated by others about your body? D: You are really looking for acceptance from others ? E: You are trying to get a man? Most likely, if you really check your heart on this issue, you are going to fall into one of those five categories. So let me break each one of these down for you:
Everyone Else is Doing it Really?! Now, that was never a good excuse and it still isn’t. Do you want to know why everyone else is doing it? Because they are imitating the stars in Hollywood. Do you want to know why the stars in Hollywood are doing it? Two reasons.
You are a complex,
unique, and beautiful work of art.
First, they are told to because the people puppeteering the stars know that you are going to follow everything they do. Secondly, they are very empty, lost, and do not accept themselves. They are looking for acceptance and validation from you and from men. They want to be loved but they have been broken and (continued on next page...)
23
beaten and do not know what real love looks like anymore or how to get it.
You Want to Feel Validated by Others See previous section.
You Want to Feel Better About Yourself Ladies, your boobs and your butt do not make up who you are. You are a complex, unique, and beautiful work of art. The whole of you: body, mind, and soul. When you show off parts of your body or post nudes (or even “send nudes) you are throwing your worth and self-respect out the window. You are making people
You Are Really Looking for Acceptance From Others Acceptance must start with you. You need to accept yourself first before anyone else is going to accept you. You must see yourself the way you want others to see you. If you think your body is beautiful and you accept it for what it is, you do not have any need or desire to post x-rated pictures. Why? Because you truly do not need the approval or acceptance of others. Posting those kinds of pictures is you asking for attention without saying the words. We all know it. When you post them saying you can do it because you accept your body, we all know that you do not and that you are craving attention.
Acceptance must start with you.
believe that you think those body parts are all there is to you. Maybe you believe that is true about yourself: that you are just a sexy body part. Well, it is not true. You have a brain, use it. You have a soul, protect it. Trying to get others to accept you by posting nudes is not going to fulfill that desire. You might get a lot of likes and some great comments, but none of those people see you for you. They see you as an object to touch. You have dehumanized your own self and given the rest of the world permission to do the same. 24
You Are Trying to Get a Man STOP!!! Just stop right there. Do not post or send another nude for the sake of a dude!! Do you know nothing about men? First, men want mystery. They are more intrigued by a girl that keeps her clothes on because that gives them something to chase and look forward to. If you are
hanging it all out there for everyone to see, they have no need to desire or chase you. You will get a lot of guys offering to sleep with you, but they only want one thing: SEX. And then guess what? They are done with you, because to them you are no longer a woman or even a human; you are an object for them to use. Second, ladies, you are looking for someone to love, accept and cherish you, right? When you post or send nudes, you are telling the men, “This is a free for all. Come and get it. I do not require any commitment, any love. Have your way and then move on to the next object of lust.” Is that the message you are trying to send out? No, I didn’t think so. I am not trying to be harsh ladies. I am trying to help you out. I encourage you to think long and hard about how you want others to view you, what kind of a man you want, and what you want to get from your posts before you post another nude.

STRESSLESS by Karissa Hagemeister
Time seems to be ever increasing in speed and appears to be ever shortening in the amount we get daily. I know for me this often means more stress. Stress runs my life. Or at least it did until the end of last month. (Continued on next page...) 45
dauntless FEATURE
I read this article on what stress really does to your body and it was a wake up call to me. I literally ran my days off from the adrenaline and hormones released from the stress. So on the few days where I did not have anything to stress about, I would just be flat out, exhausted. Stress had gotten the better of me. I could feel its presence with me everywhere I would go. I could feel its tension in my jaw. I felt that I needed it because I had lived with it for so long. But after hearing what it was doing to my body: creating high blood pressure, making me age quickly, increasing heart problems, and those are only a few of the things; I knew that I needed to make a change.
How do you get rid of stress? That was the real problem. After having lived with it for as long as I can remember, I did not know how to live without it. Or figure out how to even start the process. Thankfully, the article I read had a few suggestions that pointed me in the right direction. If you are like me and need to stress less in your life, adopt some of these and watch the stress become less of an issue for you.
46
Stress Less: • Instead of always saying or thinking you are in a hurry, tell yourself that you can take your time, there is no need to rush. • If you are always in a hurry because you do not manage your time well, learn to keep a schedule and give yourself more time than you think you need. • Schedule “me” time everyday. (I have to start out with a little bit and work up to more. So right now, I am taking 30 minutes when I wake up and 30 minutes before I sleep and just resting or meditating). • Allow yourself to rest. You do not always need to be doing something. • Learn to say “no” or get rid of the unimportant things you are wasting your time with. Once you can adopt all or a few of these principles in your life, you will eventually begin to feel more at peace and more rested, able to accomplish more. When you start the process, it is going to be more difficult. You may even feel more stressed for a few days or a week. But stick with it and it will turn out well for you once you push past that beginning phase.

bae’s KITCHEN
Bae and I enjoy eating chips. Whenever we find a new flavor, we have to try it. I don't know if it is the crunch or the fact that it is one of our "things" but we just love chips. And by the way "chippies" is our term for chips. Even though we love them, buying them is not all that healthy. We focus on eating clean and not getting much processed food. So we decided to make some at home and haven't been able to stop.
48
bae’s KITCHEN
homemade chippies Ingredients: 2 Potatoes (White or Sweet) 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil or Coconut Oil Spices of Your Choosing: Salt, pepper, cumin, basil, cayenne pepper, chili powder, paprika, and dill weed. Directions: 1. Cut the potatoes into thin slices. 2. Put the pieces in a bowl with either of the oils. (Coconut oil makes them have a sweeter taste.) 3. Sprinkle whatever spices you would like over the top of the mixture. (My favorite are all of them listed above.) 4. Mix it all together in a bowl 5. Lay them out on a cookie sheet. 6. Place them in the oven at 400 degrees and allow them to bake for 15- 20 minutes, or until crispy and crunchy. Let cool for five minutes and then enjoy! Makes two servings.

SOLO : Star Wars
Movie of the Month
The movie, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was released on May 25th in theaters around the United States. Being a small Star Wars fan, I was not sure what to expect. Many of the older Star Wars I tend to enjoy. The few recent releases have been a let down. However, I was not disappointed after watching Han Solo’s story. The latest Star Wars movie release provided excellent background information into the lives of some of our most favorite characters. The movie also created more fantastical creatures, fanatical robots, and some new characters that pulled on the heart strings. I am sure there will be another movie to follow, as this left the audience
with many unanswered questions. But, if you are like me, and wondering whether this latest Star Wars movie is worth your time, the answer is YES! You will not be disappointed seeing the movie about Solo’s life. In fact, you may just get drawn into the Star Wars Sage even more. ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman 60
