letter from the EDITOR

Hello

BEAUTIFUL & DAUNTLESS,

You may notice that this issue is a little different from the ones past. From the start, this magazine was designed to be something that both male and female could find useful and appealing. However, I just felt like it was not manly enough. So to become more man-friendly, I decided to add Dauntless to Beautiful. I did several social media polls to see what name guys would most like to be associated with and Dauntless was the winner. You will find the first half of the magazine is Beautiful, mostly geared towards women, and the second half of the magazine is Dauntless, mostly geared towards men. We will continue to grow that section of the magazine. Along with the growth of the magazine, we are growing our product line for the magazine. So if you visit Kingdom Dezigns online store, you will find shirts, mugs, bags, ect ... all repping Beautiful or Dauntless. To start the new product launch, we are doing a special summer shirt design, that will only last for 21 days. This shirt is only available for a limited time, so get one while you have the chance. Happy August and thank you for reading and supporting Beautiful & Dauntless. XOXO,

GGLING find

ose & Place By Karissa Hagemeister 13

After graduating with my bachelors degree from college, I remember thinking that everything I had been dreaming about for my future and my life should come true immediately. It was devastating and quite a reality shock when it did not. Nothing fell into my lap. Life did not just suddenly happen and my dreams did not just magically come true. I know I live a sort of fantasized life in my mind but it was very discouraging trying to figure life out as soon as a graduated. I had all my hopes and all my dreams. I knew what I wanted to do and what I did not want to do but I had no idea how to get there. Many graduate from college with no idea where they want to go with life, let alone, how they are going to get there. Matter of fact, I know many adults who are still trying to find their place in life. The truth is, finding your place in life is a struggle. It is not a one time struggle. It is a struggle that reoccurs several times throughout our life as we go through different seasons and stages. Whichever season of life that you find yourself in right now, take courage and don’t lose heart. There will be ups and there will be downs. You will not be stuck in one place for your entire life. I think this where so many of us get discouraged. We think we need to know the answer for our entire life and career right away. But the truth is, you will likely work for many different companies and do many different trades. It is all a process of discovering ourselves, our place and our purpose. Pursue things that you are passionate about. Do not be afraid to try new things or go after positions that do not align with the college degree you received. If you did not go to college, do not let that discourage you. You are just as good as anyone else. Be confidant and go after your dreams. Embrace the struggle as it means you are growing. Growth is an important part of life. We each must go through the struggle because

14

we each need to find our own place and discover our own purpose. No one else can figure life out for you. This is your life and you need to find the place that was made specifically for you. The cool thing about finding your place is that there really is a place just for you. No one else can do all that you can do. No one else can fit into that place except for you. Do not settle for less than the best for you. If you are unsatisfied, bored, or too comfortable, you are not in your place. Allow your heart to wander in this journey of finding the place with your name on it. I wish you much joy on this journey of finding your purpose in this world, beautiful.

This past month, I had the opportunity to travel to other side of the world and explore the infamous Down Under. Australia. This country has been at the top of my traveling bucket list for as long as I can remember. Needless to say, I was beyond excited to go. I already knew that I would love it but little did I know that I would fall in love with it. I journeyed there with a few friends and we stayed for a total of three weeks. We stayed in Sydney for the majority of the trip. There was enough in Sydney to jam pack our schedules for those three weeks. Since I have been back, everyone keeps asking me, “What was your favorite part?’ As much as I would love to give a simple answer, there isn’t one. I

20

loved every minute of the journey. Going there was my favorite part. We explored the exquisite design of the Sydney Opera House, which has an amzing night show on the exterior. We walked across, rode a ferry under and drove over the Harbor Bridge. We made a stop at the Chinese Friendship Garden, which reminded me of the time I lived in China. We attended Hillsong Conference. Mind-blown. We climbed a mountain and walked many beaches. We got to see kangaroos. Not only did we see them, but I kept trying to hug them because they are so cute and not mean like the rumors that we often hear. I made friends with some wonderful people. We celebrated Christmas in July, which was so fitting since it is cold over there during July. We got lost. We walked at least 15,000 steps every day. And we watched a new Madea movie almost every night. There is so much more that I could say about the wonder of the country, but you will have to experience it for yourself.

Mother and Daughter Team

Article By: Karissa27Hagemeister

Let me introduce you to an amazing mother and daughter team. Ty’ra Malloy, 20 years old, has been modeling for over five years. Her mother, CJ Hodge, is new to the fashion blogging and consulting world. Both women have decided to push against the grain and pursue their hearts desires in a world that encourages us to go with the flow.

Let’s hear a little about their story: 28

a r ’ y T

Growing up people would say, “You’re so tall and pretty you should model.” At the time I did not put a lot of thought into it because, I was a full time dancer. I started dancing at the age of three, it was something I loved to do, and fell in love with the art. Once I got into middle school, I decided I should give modeling a chance. So my mom signed me up to take modeling classes at Sessions Modeling Studio. I took my first class, had my first official photo shoot, and fell in love with the “glamour life.” I thought to myself, “I can get used to this.”

29

I am new to the blogging scene. I have been insta blogging since January of this year. However, I have been a style lover for as long as I can remember. As a little girl I would see my mother and grandmother dressed to the gawds! I had been toying around with the idea of starting a style blog for years. One day I finally decided that I was going to pursue my passion and see where it takes me. After all I am not getting any younger.

a r ’ y T

I know this is cliché, but “the sky is the limit.” Right now, I am focused on getting my bachelor’s degree from Florida State and figuring out my next phase in life. Modeling is my hobby and I would love to pursue my dream and get signed to one of the top agencies in the United States.

CJ

I am still trying to decide if I will launch a web based blog. If I do, it will mainly be a picture blog where my followers can shop my looks. I currently have a little over 1K followers. 30

What’s the On What the Healt

Taking a step away from the delicious dishes, I thought it would be proactive to share details on this seems to create a lot of buzz to go vegan. What the Health promotes the idea that there is only one healthy way to eat. This one option means letting (http://nutritionreview.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/plant-based-diet.jpg) Kip Andersen, the creator and star of the documentary, shares that all forms of meat and dairy are giving us cancer, diabetes, and poisoning us with toxins. He compares most of the meat and dairy options to be as deadly as cigarettes. Kip even believes that eggs should not be ingested, due to the toxins within them. Now, it is not my goal to provide facts or fiction on what is right or wrong about this documentary. In reality, I am confident that there is a link between diet and disease. In fact, there is no doubt in my mind that we are in the midst of a spiraling lifestyle that is severely unhealthy. This is in part by the kinds of foods we eat in the quantities in which we eat them. In the past six months, I have actually taken sugar out of my diet, due to the travel lifestyle. As good as the food in America might be, it is wise to make healthier choices in an indulgent culture. Due to removing sugar out of my routine, I have lost a significant amount of weight without even having to exercise as much as I use to. From my own personal experience, I believe, that sugar leads to an unhealthy lifestyle. Again, I have yet to approve of Kip’s theory, as the documentary does not agree with a no sugar mindset, since sugar is plant based. Within this documentary, two stories are shared about women who have been living restricted lifestyles due to unhealthy choices. They take more than eight medications, in order to function each day. One of the women are unable to even walk independently at the young age of sixty. They have pursued the expertise of medical professionals, and all have said that this is a permanent lifestyle for them. The movie encourages everyone to live a plant-based diet in order to live longer and stronger. This means no meat and no dairy products. Kip challenges these two women to change their eating habits to “plant-based” and watch how quickly they will see a difference. He also shares that people with diabetes will see a significant difference with 24 hours. It is within two weeks, that these two women become more independent in their daily routines and completely stop taking all forms of medication. This challenges me to put Kip’s theories to the test. How else will we know if this is truth or another what may or may not change if I remove meat and dairy products out of my own diet. My goal is to not on see what could happen in just two weeks. In the end, it would only benefit us to make healthier choices. 54

ABOUT Dauntless Magazine

DAUN LESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feed-

back from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms:

“Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.”

- Larry

“Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.”

- Arman

LEADER REQU According to Strengths Finders, Leaders need to be Trustworthy, Compassionate, Stable and offer Hope. Of the 4 listed, which do you think is tops? Saif:: Compassion, if practiced right and SELFLESSLY. It ususlly comes from being trustworthy and stable. You cannot trust a leader who does not care for his people, which already reflects instability. Thus it is simply the most important trait of a leader. Shiana:: Trust. It’s the foundation. Saif:: I second that ^ in relationship terms. Speaking of leadership terms and from my military expereince/opinion (where you can distinguish the real from the fake leaders in MINUTES), compassion is still key. For example, you can’t really tell immediately if that “leader” is trustworthy or not until you feel he/she cares and 64

will listen to your essential needs when crisis and hardships raise your surroundings, and then go to make it happen for you without delay. Then you can feel trust in your leader. Trust is very essential, but it takes a very long time to build. Sometimes years. So it really depends on how long you have to bond with them. I hope you are finding all the traits in your leaders. Carol:: Trust, because trust is the fruit that comes from a leader being stable and caring. It is hard to trust someone that hasn’t shown those characteristics. So if there is trust it means that the leadership is built on the right foundation of the other traits. Bradley:: Compassion because I would rather not hear advice from a person who doesn’t actually care about my problems or me. Peter:: I think we need a little of each in order to have a full life. Kimberly:: Trust Chris:: Trust for sure. Stability can fluctuate outside of the leader’s power and care is a constant change from their expereinces (as long as it’s for the better). 65

Who’s Your

LEADER?

Of all the leaders you’ve had, who has had the most impact and why?

66 Photo by Karissa Hagemeister

The biggest leader in my life has to be Kid Art. I always go to Instagram to see if he drops a new visual music video. Both him and his long-time collab and partner, Vinny ChaSe. I love their work a lot. Like they treat their music videos as modern art of motion. Very much expressive and innovative. Their is always something new to their work. My most biggest leader-leader will always be Steven Klein. He’s the main reason why I want to do photography and film, or best way to say, “visuals.” Is it art? Is it photography? Steven Klein answered one word, boldly. “I love to make visuals.” His work is definitely the balance of both worlds, but more than just being categorized, it’s expressive. It’s beauty at it’s own way of form. It’s storytelling. He takes fashion photography to a whole another level and that’s what I want to do it. Push Fashion and Beauty Photography and Film to a whole another level. I don’t want my work to be just photography or film. I want my work to be art, but, beyond being called art. High-end Imagery, or #IMAGERY. :) - DANIEL

Jiddu Krishnamurti. His life story is amazing and his teaching style is awesome. I think one of the outstanding lessons I remember from him was about how people should take responsibility for the fears of others. The world would change if people could keep focused on that one thought while going about their daily business. -Bradley

68

Hard to say, a few I can think of would be Tristan Adams, Ian McConnell, David McQuain, and Pastor Rod Hair. All of these were people I knew I could trust through and through. I could see the quality of their character though a few had their flaws they were loyal and so that loyalty was returned. If things got bad I knew I could count on each of them in their own way to provide guidance or support if I needed it. Pastor Hair helped guide me through some very rough stuff when I initially came back to Christ and I knew I could trust him and count on him when I needed it. Also while I know of some people who had bad mouthed me behind my back for whatever reason, I knew these men would not disrespect me like that which helped me to respect and trust them even more. I suppose I place most of my value in leadership with respect, trust, and loyalty. The best description I can think for these guys would be what I’ve said about them before to a friend. If all I was armed with was a plastic spoon and one of them told me to charge the gates of hell, I’d do it without a second thought. -Ben

DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN:: LEAD YOURSELF. THEN LEAD OTHERS.

TERRY RANDOLPH LAYOUT BY OLIVIA WALLS 72

PHOTO BY JOSIAH RICHWINE I recently flew to Washington D.C. for a conference. Once all the passengers were aboard the plane, the flight attendant began with the protocol guidelines for the flight. If you have ever flown before, then you are well aware of what was said. “In the case of a sudden loss of air pressure, oxygen masks will drop down from the compartments above you. Please place the mask on yourself before you attempt to place the mask on your child or others around you. It makes sense, we have to place the mask on ourselves so we can breathe before we can help others to do the same. The message is so obvious, so why do we have to be reminded every time we fly? Perhaps the truth is, in the event of an emergency, we respond more instinctively, desiring to help others before we help ourselves. Although helpful, this a decision that could spell disaster not only for you, but also for others in your care. Put the mask on yourself first, then you will have the capacity to put the mask on someone else. At the core, this is more than simple survival, it is leadership. Lead yourself. Then lead others.

So, how do you lead yourself? Self-leadership operates in nearly the exact opposite fashion as external leadership. When leading others, micromanagement obstacles creativity, productivity, and employee buy-in, but in terms of selfleadership, micromanagement is key. Discipline matters, even in the small decisions. Focus and time management in the ordinary and mundane moments are important stakeholders in your self-leadership council. And the practice of the pause, the implementation of rest and recharge, is key to effective internal governance.

Leaders must be disciplined. Discipline is the capacity for individuals to create and maintain order amid the busyness of life. We are all busy, and there is little hope for change to this reality. However, the wildness of our lives can be tamed through discipline. It enables us to take the raw resources of conflict, demands, and responsibilities and refine them. Over time, this creates order and structure to the busyness and allows leaders to navigate through tasks and projects with precision and efficiency. When you are disciplined, even the most hectic schedules can be overwhelmed.

Leaders must be focused. We have all experienced the effects of a lack of focus, the moments when we feel mentally scattered and out of sorts. An inability to focus can make accomplishing any task increasingly difficult. In self-leadership, focus enables leaders to harness creative energy, drive, and passion and apply that momentum to accomplish a specific goal or

73

task. The result of focus is synergy, an effort capable of accomplishing more than the individual components would merit alone. The synergy of focus is the driving force behind the efficacy of self-leaders.

Leaders must be time managers. The task of managing time seems like it should be relegated to comic book superheroes. Although, none of us is so gifted to manage actual time, we can manage the planning and execution of the activities that fill our time. Simply, time management is the effective balance of the planning and execution of tasks. How you plan and what you plan for directly influences the execution of the plan. If we think of time as fluid, then the management of time requires for us to implement a continual connectedness between our plans and the execution of the plan. When we opt not to effectively manage our time time leaks out of our plans, seemingly leaving us with less at the end of the task than expected. As it pertains to self-leadership, the distance between our expectations and the reality we experience is often indicative of either an efficient or costly usage of time.

Leaders must know how to Keeping these systems operating at optimal levels necessitates breaks, rest. The continual expenditure of energy and resources will drive any system to a point of depletion and ultimately destruction; and we are no different. In my elementary school years, I fell off a slide and had the wind knocked out of me. It was terrifying, as the impact on the ground forced nearly all the air out of lungs, leaving me gasping for breath. When I could breathe, I remember that my first breath felt like I was being replenished again. Life, with its demands, has the capacity to empty us of all our energy and resources. Rest is the essential recharging and calibration of our mental, physical, and emotional systems.

sleep, and opportunities to disconnect and disengage from sources of stress and tension. The maintenance and sustenance of leadership is rooted in the management of mental, physiological, and emotional resources. Rest is that breath that brings life back into our leadership. Through discipline, focus, time management, and rest we are able to govern our capacity to engage and lead ourselves and, in turn, those within our influence. Effective leadership starts from within. It is within ourselves that we transform our leadership potential into leadership ability. “Put the mask on yourself, then place the mask on others. Lead yourself. Then lead others.
