:: Growth in salons and spas (1.9%) during 2012 was three times as fast as overall private sector business establishments (0.6%).1

:: Non-supervisory employees in the salon industry earned an average of $14.64 per hour in 2013, not including tips. That was 3.5% higher than in 2012. By comparison, the average hourly earnings of a non-supervisory employee in the private sector overall was $20.13 per hour in 2013, but that is largely in fields that do not offer tip income.6

:: Since 1990, average hourly earnings of non-supervisory employees in the salon industry is up about 10% more than for non-supervisory employees in the overall private sector.6
