Why Beck?
Our clients collaborate with us because of the way we think, so we can design better and build better.
THINK
What makes us different from other designbuild teams is that we are one integrated firm, consisting of design and construction healthcare professionals—working together—and focused on a unified measure of excellence: your target!
From the beginning, we look projects holistically. We develop a plan, commit the resources, and bring expert disciplines onboard at the right time to ensure success.
DESIGN BUILD Integrated Mindset and Approach
UNIFIED VISION: REDUCED OWNER RISK IN AN INTEGRATED APPROACH
Beck’s integrated model reduces the Owner’s risk by utilizing a single contract, which transfers risk to the integrated design-build entity. In the traditional designbid-build approach, the Owner pays for the scope gaps created by individually contracting with the architect and contractor.
Our integrated model eliminates the disconnect between design documents and construction costs by incorporating continual feedback from the full team throughout the design phase. This alignment allows us to guarantee the cost earlier in the process, resulting in less fee spent and an earlier decision to build.
Unified Vision
Target Value Delivery is an essential component of Beck’s integrated model to ensure alignment.
Target Value Delivery (TVD) is an essential part of the Beck Integrated Model and critical to ensuring that, throughout the design process, the entire team is aligned on the goals of the project and focused on hitting your strategic targets.
Now more than ever, changes made during the evolution of the design have the potential to significantly impact cost and schedule. Beck healthcare works as an integrated team, and it is our job to ensure timely and transparent communication.
The combination of Beck’s Integrated Model and a Target Value Design delivery reduces change orders compared to both traditional design-bidbuild and CM @ Risk.

How We Collaborate
Beck’s design thinking does not stop, we constantly iterate to develop the optimal solution.
At its core, design is problem solving and decision making. There are thousands of decisions that make up a building. Most clients have a fuzzy idea of what they want and our iterative process allows us to collaborate with them to help answer these questions and develop the project.
This process helps our team to:
• Understand. We seek empathy and understanding of the problem (usually a building with a specific program).
• Inspire. We then seek inspiration or aspiration for what the building could be (framed by history, novelty, ambition). We brainstorm and workshop with a client to generate ideas.
• Iterate. We then create and develop those ideas into some testable form.
• Refine. Through a process of review and validation, we let the best ideas win and test then against constructability, cost, and schedule.

Our Design Philosophy
How we approach Design at Beck: Integration.
Beck’s architectural practice is organized as a collaborative team of architects, designers, interior designers, and planners who work on a common goal— your project. When you work with us, you will notice that Beck has a unique approach, because of our integrated nature as architects and construction experts, we leverage our best resources to bring you value. Our design team leans on our cost estimators to deliver cost-certain design, and our superintendents to inform us on constructibility.
We are better designers because we are builders, and better builders because we design. Healthcare design is about designing through the lens of your patients and caregivers.
First, we are focused on understanding your processes, whether they change and are set for improvement or if they operate as is. Our expertise as designers and consultants allows us to consider and mitigate key pain points, including staffing, market conditions, and operational bottlenecks. While considering all these dimensions, our design philosophy includes triangulating these and designing a space that functions well for your patients, caregivers, administrators, and all others. By understanding all processes by engaging your users and administrators, we can build the optimal space, blocking, and stacking that is functional for the life of the building. As an integrated design firm, we have the ability to think about project cost at the onset, to ensure your building is constructible within your defined budget.
We are guided by four values:
CONTENT
CONTEXT
Program Engage & Enhance
Master Planning
Our multi-disciplinary healthcare practice allows us to provide comprehensive plans that are strategic and cost certain.
Aligning a master plan with the goals and objectives of the healthcare system is the foremost priority. Once defined, the Beck team assembles a framework that evaluates and proposes a strategic vision for existing or future spaces. By evaluating the systems involved in the facilities and provide an assessment of ways to maximize efficiencies of services lines while allowing growth in the most fiscally responsible manner. The goal of a master plan is to ensure that the healthcare provider continues to contribute world-class services and has the facilities to complement their work.

Our Planning Process
Our master planning design team has a unique process that is always tailored to you. We believe meeting you where you are, building on your past success, is the key to developing a next generation long-term plan.
To begin our process with you, we need to think local, to act globally. We need to analyze the innovation, technology, research, and any other cutting-edge industry activities that are happening in your area to create an informed master plan. At Beck, we offer national expertise that is accustomed to leveraging our insights from across the globe to your project. We help our clients balance the needs of their patient care responsibilities, while also infusing next-generation practices happening at world-class institutions in patient, visitor, and user experiences.
Our option development infuses the needs of your users, while also discovering ways to enhance the management of your resources. This includes implementing options that are flexible and adaptable to our ever-changing healthcare industry.
Preconstruction is more than costestimating, its early engagement for a cost certain future.
Thanks to evolution in the industry over the last 20 years, owners can engage preconstruction teams much earlier in the design process. We are passionate about offering enhanced preconstruction services because we know the 10x return on investment that each additional of planning provides during project construction.
Beck preconstruction and construction team members engage in the project to assist the team in establishing an accurate overall project budget and advise on constructibility issues to eliminate impacts to cost and schedule. This allows a greater degree of accurate cost information earlier in the process and affords the opportunity for the team to explore more options and achieve a higher level of design within the established budget.
