You have selected Sanford School for your child because you have chosen to invest in an education that will provide academic rigor, as well developing character and leadership qualities. When you chose Sanford, one of the serious commitments you made is a financial one, both in terms of tuition and your voluntary support of the school.

Why Giving is Important Tuition provides a great percentage, but not all, of the income necessary to meet the school’s expenses. Charitable contributions from parents, alumni, past parents, grandparents, and others who believe in the school’s mission help complete the equation. Gifts to the school are used to fund elements that make Sanford even better equipped to meet the needs and talents of each student.

We give to the Sanford Annual Fund because we recognize the importance of ensuring that the school is able to continue to provide our family, and all families, a top-notch educational experience. Our children have had outstanding instructors and great coaches at Sanford, who truly care about them and their success. Great things are happening at Sanford and we want to ensure that this positive momentum continues. –parent of a current student and an alum

: My employer has a matching gift program.

Does my gift to Sanford qualify?

: Yes, the school can benefit from most employee matching gift programs. By using a corporate match, you can multiply the impact of your gift. You and the employer will receive recognition for the match. By notifying us that your employer matches charitable gifts, we can assist in initiating the needed follow-up.

Did you know? Many local and

national foundations look at parent giving to the Annual Fund as a criteria for their giving decisions. If our own parents invest in the school, foundations believe they should too. Parent giving leveraged nearly $1.5 million in foundation support for recent campus improvements.

Giving to the Annual Fund is a PRIORITY in our family. It is important to us, as parents, that the children see Mom and Dad as philanthropic adults, supporting organizations they feel strongly about. Sanford has given so much to our children and participating in the Annual Fund ensures that their wonderful journey will continue. Today’s Annual Fund enriches the strong foundation of Sanford’s program and also ensures that generations to come will be able to benefit from the Sanford experience. –parent of three sanford students

What are Additional Ways to Give to Sanford and Our Local Community? While we ask that participation in the Annual Fund be your first consideration when contributing to Sanford, there are other opportunities to give back to the school. Families are encouraged to choose to become involved as they are able and desire to. EVENTS Sanford hosts several events each year, with a goal of providing opportunities for parent interaction and to raise funds to benefit students and support our faculty. Annually Sanford holds an auction, attended by over 225 parents, faculty and others who care about the school. Parents can donate items to the auction or volunteer their time. During the event, many attendees choose to purchase items to benefit the school. Other events, such as the adult trivia night, also raise funds and create a sense of community. DRIVES At various times during the year, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and in advance of the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, groups will request items for donations to outside organizations. Collections of clothing, food, and school supplies aim to teach students to be philanthropic and allow our families to assist the community. VOLUNTEERISM The gifts of time and expertise are invaluable and important to a strong, thriving school. Each fall, our Home & School parent organization distributes volunteer sign-up forms to parents, encouraging them to share how they would like to volunteer. Opportunities range from assisting in the classroom to serving on the committee for various events, even gardening. There are opportunities to volunteer in any capacity that meets your interest and availability. OTHER GIVING Often alumni, longtime parents, grandparents, and parents of alumni choose to make a uniquely impactful gift to the school. This may be in the form of a gift restricted for a significant project, gifts of appreciated securities, inclusion in an estate plan, or the gift of an item or service needed by the school. These involve working with the Sanford’s Development Office to make arrangements that will benefit both the donor and the school.
