Eternal: Represented by the Phoenix The phoenix symbolizes rebirth.

T

o many a Phoenix may represent a new beginning, that no matter how bad (hot) things may get you will get back up on your feet (rise out of the ashes).

• In Roman mythology, the bird was associated with the resurrection of the Empire and was popular on roman coins and mosaics. • Christians believe that Phoenix is the symbolic model of Christ’s Resurrection after three days. • In China, Phoenix has it’s correspondent in Feng-huang bird, where the Ying and Yang principles reunite. • Jewish legends name it Milcham and explain its immortality by its faithfulness. It was said that when Eve bit the apple of knowledge, she tempted the animals with the forbidden fruit. The Milcham bird refused and received for its faithfulness a town where it can live a thousand years.

The Phoenix always rises from its own ashes. It can be a metaphor for always picking yourself up when you are down. The name of this mythical bird comes from Greek, meaning red, purple. Corresponding with this Greek myth, Phoenix is an oracular bird, which can periodically burn up and then regenerate from it’s own ashes. It’s the symbol of immortality by resurrection. The legend says that the bird was seen feeding itself with dew, gathering smelling herbs, burning with them waiting for the moment of resurrection after three days.

The legend of the Phoenix can be simply interpreted to mean that the end is only the beginning symbolizes long life, rebirth, and especially resurrection or reconstruction after destruction by fire.

• In Egyptian mythology, Phoenix was associated with the Benu bird, in the state of the Sun’s God.

Dear SIS Family: Bravo & Kudos to all the members of the SIS family for successfully hurdling the school year 2009-2010! We have all the reasons to rejoice over the achievements of our students in terms of academics, sports and music. A lot of our students are excelling in golf, rock climbing, basketball, music, football, etc. In fact, our footballers (under 12) represented Pathumthani Province which eventually won the Regional Prime Minister’s Football Cup and joined in the national competition in July 2010. Aligned with our Yearbook theme “Eternal”, may I underscore the idea of disciplined imagination. Disciplined imagination is the beginning of great inventions, innovations, and marvelous masterpieces. This mental eye can help students to be able to achieve the ESLRs of being creative thinkers and problem solvers. When a student uses his disciplined imagination, he/she enjoys one of the most powerful human gifts from the Eternal Spirit. This is the key to many wild dreams of contribution to society. The interpretation of Walt Disney is: "If you can dream it, you can do it." Children may act out a make-believe situation or pretend to play the role of a nurse or a doctor and even an engineer. This is an exercise using the power of childish imagination which may stimulate creativity (power to think) and innovation (power to do). Students can choose to enjoy this gift to maximize the potentials of the mysterious brain. It’s a challenge to all SIS students to use the power of imagination for amazing learning and success! Kindest regards, Ajarn Ratanachai Nantapramote SIS Licensee

Dear Stakeholders: Greetings to all & thank you for your splendid support! It must be fitting that our SIS family would express our heartfelt gratitude to the SIS founders (Khun Ratanachai Nantapramote and Khun Wilailux Wakij Jareon Pruektha) and to the SIS teachers who served during the Jubilee School Year 2009-2010 by dedicating this Yearbook 2009-2010. This Jubilee School Year had been a very touching one because it had been the launching pad for the SIS giant leap to the 1st year of accreditation despite the indescribably tumultuous events and challenging mountains to surmount. In brief, this was the year of unimaginable utter reversals for SIS toward a grand and winning future. The SIS founders deserve to be recognized for their courage in setting up this school and their all-out trust to the Leadership Team. In concept, the founders originally crafted the three-pronged vision of the school with the following specific emphases: IT/Core Subjects, Sports, and Music. The said concept was fleshed out and refined by the SIS Team. Yes, the drivers were the Executive Management Council, Leadership Team (LT), and the Administrative Council; but the real actors/ front-liners in the playing field were the classroom teachers. Their positive attitude and superb resilience had buoyed up inspiring spirit among the Leadership Team. Had it not been for the great teachers who stormed through thick and thin with the LT, SIS could have had a different story. This school year had been dented with memories that are loaded with learning experiences and unmatched patience as demonstrated by the teachers during recessions and lean collections. From the backdrop of financial crunch and low cash flow, SIS teachers had braved forward with true humility and untiring service to the students and school. Thus, it is my distinct pleasure to honor and dedicate this Yearbook 2010 (Theme: Eternal) to the SIS Founders and the SIS Teachers 2009-2010. The Licensee and I wish to award you the certificate of being “Real SIS Friends”. What you have done is indeniably dear to our hearts. Past is past but life must go on conquering more heights of triumphs. You are our SIS unbeatable heroes! Yours sincerely, Adelino Libato, Ph.D. Board Chair

Dear Students, Teachers, Parents and friends of SIS: What is the purpose of education? Why do we go through all the hassle and hard work? Is it just for getting a degree, a diploma, a job or a career? Are these goals really what give education its meaning and value? There is a well known poem which goes something like this: The more you study, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you forget. The more you forget, the less you learn. So why study? We may not agree with the philosophy behind this poem, but it does make a valid point. What is the purpose of Education? It is highly appropriate that our theme for the yearbook this year is “Eternal”, because this one word gives us the answer to our question. Education is about learning and using tools, knowledge and skills that are “Eternal”, things that will change the world and make it a better place, things that will change us as individuals and make us the best that we can be, things that will motivate us, strengthen us and empower us to achieve greatness. Education is about the truly important things in life, about setting the correct priorities. Priorities like nobility, creativity, intelligence, honesty, perseverance, diligence and other fundamental values that give meaning to life. These values and their influence on the world are “Eternal”. It is also highly appropriate that the Yearbook Mascot is the Phoenix, because it exemplifies our philosophy perfectly. The Phoenix dies in a blaze of fire at the end of its life, but out of the ashes is reborn a new Phoenix. In the same way, students of SIS learn from their mistakes and make themselves better. They draw on their experiences in school and use the things they have learned to stand on their own two feet and take charge of their own destinies. Like the Phoenix our students rise to higher and higher horizons and standards of excellence and achievement. We are proud of them and we advise them to never give up, never surrender and remember to always live up to the morals and values they have learned at SIS. We expect to see them achieve great things. Raffy Manassian Director, Siam International School

Greetings to all! Welcome to Siam International School. This is the first school in Thailand that introduces a complete e-Learning program from grades 6 to 12. This is a school that is widely recognized as one of the premiere international schools in Thailand. The school provides quality education to Thai youngsters and also to expatriates representing more than 41 countries. As you go through this year book or visit our website. I believe you will find a consistent theme in our school. In 2009, the SIS made a new sister school in the province of Saraburi: the SIS-Saraburi Campus, with a highly rigorous academic program supported by a dedicated and caring teaching staff. SIS-SC has promoted greatness in her students through her strong stated mission to inspire students with a passion for learning, and to cultivate Christian morals and good conducts. Other qualities in our students include: thinking, having self-control, being initiative, and posessing creativity necessary for success in the global community. Graduates from Siam International School attend the most prestigious universities in Thailand and throughout the world. The best e-Learning program and extra-curricular opportunities are available at our school and are contributing factors to our students’ success. I hope you enjoy looking at our school activities in this yearbook. You will also find a lot more about us. For those who have just heard about us for the first time, please visit our website at www.siamschool.ac.th Phkdee Mangmiwathana, Ph,D. Director, Siam International School-Saraburi Campus

Dear SIS students, parents, and stakeholders: Thank you very much for all your untiring support! This school year has truly been a remarkable year for SIS as regards to the broad curriculum in developing its students- their heads, their hands, and their hearts. It is our intense desire to delight and please all our customers by giving the best quality delivery with reasonable cost. We are always student-centered and customer-driven. Two convincing proofs are our successful e-learning modality and informative website which is very user-friendly to parents for updates and child-performance tracking. Our three-pronged emphasis includes: IT/Core subjects, Group Sports, & Music. We are now gaining grounds and spiraling upward on the three aspects which are making significant impacts as attested by our website. SIS will never rest or get satisfied with a second-rate job until it reaches the acme of excellence which is always a moving target. To date, the Football Academy and the Siam Music House are in their blooming stage with tremendous potential. In the near future, to be among the topnotch schools in IT, SIS will go for the full-swing Adobe Digital School and the High School Online Program. IT enhancement is our unending quest for SIS to be truly the e-learning leader of the world. Surely, indeed, we appreciate the assistance and support of many parents, newspapers, TV stations, and various organizations. They all have helped us in our great branding and solid customer loyalty. Congratulations to all the SIS stakeholders for another mile of successful endeavor! Best regards, Ajarn Prasit Comewinit SIS CFO

We live in this period of human history where the whole world is right at our fingertips. The advent of computers has changed our lives and keeps changing the way we live. We now find ourselves in this transitory stage of social evolution where knowledge workers have become the most valuable capital of nations in the global village. This is the Age of Information. This is the Age of Technology. This is the Age of Knowledge. This year, the shift from traditional modes of learning to what we call e-learning will become more pronounced. All our campuses have started utilizing online instruction and e-learning, making education more accessible anytime, anywhere. As the first e-learning school in Thailand and pioneer of online education, we shall soon venture into the establishment of the global online international school. Our expansion plans, therefore, are two-pronged. Physical expansion by establishing other campuses in the country and virtual expansion by dominating cyber space through online education. We remain steadfast in our commitment to produce globally competitive knowledgeable students and we shall strive to be the best e-learning international school across the globe. Thanks for all your support and for a great year! Alexander E. de Guzman SIS CIO
