St. John Mary International School On its third year of operation

Seeds

When you go into the forest, you can count the number of trees there, but if you see a pile of seeds, you cannot count the number of trees that are from those seeds. -Ajarn SamaiThis school year, we chose the theme “Seeds because we believe that we were able to produce lots of good seeds this year and that they will soon grow and become spectacular trees in the future. With the first high school graduation, the school has finally gained success in the goals and mission that it comprises of. This yearbook is the monument of the many successes this year and we will move on forward to help students grow to be successful anywhere in the world as they become so much more than seeds...but trees.

Message from the FOUNDER

I

t gives me great pleasure to introduce the third edition of the St. John Mary International School Yearbook to you: Pathways 2007. this volume represents many achievements since the opening of the school three years ago in august 2004, including the graduation of our first Grade 12 students, most of whom have successfully gained places in various prestigious universities. As you leaf through the pages of this book you will discover that St. John Mary International School is indeed a place where active learning occurs in an environment that not only places high academic expectations on the students but also nurtures then with care, security and fun. You will see that students engage in many activities, each of which is designed to not only bring out the best in the students academically but also to mould them into balanced and service-oriented citizens. Apart from the affordability of gaining an education at St. John Mary International School, what distinguishes it is the quality of its teaching and learning program. All administrators and teachers have been chosen on the basis of their experience and high and relevant qualifications. The administrators all have doctorates while the teachers have at least a Bachelor’s degree (many have a Master’s degree) with a major in their particular specialty. The teaching methodology employed at the school is a studentcentered approach, through which the students gain not only an understanding of each curriculum areas but also critical thinking and research skill. St. John Mary International School is proud of the quality of its teachers and their ability to help the students achieve their fullest potential. If you have made the decision to send you child or children to St. John Mary International School, I would like to congratulate you on your choice. If you have not made this decision yet, I would like to encourage you to give this school a warm consideration. To all of you I would like to extend a warm invitation to visit the school, talk to the administrators, chat with the teachers, observe the activities and enjoy the beautiful world-class environment. I know you will be impressed. I wish you all health, happiness and success.

Ajarn Samai Chinnapha Founder of St. John Mary International School

Message from the EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR

T

o establish a school is a big task because it involves several factors, both internal and external. But with God’s grace the school is now in the end of the third year. There were problems in the first year which were solved with optimistic thinking and approach. In the second year, there were more problems but they were solved with the knowledge and support of the teachers and staff. There were even more problems in the third year but those problems too were overcome. I would like to compare our school to an airplane. In the first year the school took off with effort and energy. The school strived to keep and maintain the stability in the second year. In the third year the school was up to the stage where the pilot could put the plane in to autopilot and now we are flying in the air.

Our first graduates of Grade 12 have completed their requirements this year and they have been admitted into prestigious colleges and universities, both private and public. I believe that our school has a part in building up future physicians, engineers, academicians, lawyers, politicians, business men and women, etc. One day these students will come as alumni to and they will help to move the school to a higher level.

Phakdee Mangmiwatthana, Ph.D Executive Administrator

Message from from the FINANCIAL MANAGER

I

agree with the philosophy of our school’s founder, Ajarn Samai Chinnapha; his immortal philosophy is “We can count the number of seeds, but we cannot count the number of trees hidden inside them.” What possibly happens is that perfect seeds grow to become perfect trees; perfect trees can bear perfect fruits which are sweet and tasty. Children can be compared to the seeds as different kinds of fruits. We can count them while they are studying, playing, doing their activities, and so forth, but the things we cannot count is the uncountable value within them. We as adults are working amongst the students of SJMIS. We are like the green fingers that take care of them as the seeds of the ground to give them a prosperous future with our true love. I hope the values that are inside each student, with our true love, care, and understanding, will help them grow up to become perfect citizens of this Country and also within the global community. Be the best with who you are. Sincerely,

Mr. Anumart Dittphae School Lawyer and Financial Manager

Ajarn Samai hosts Foundation celebration

T

he teachers had a wonderful treat at Ajarn Samai’s house on September 7 to celebrate the 2nd birthday of St. John Mary. With the school’s fast development, the teachers were happy to reminise the memories of the school and listened to the experiences of the pioneers and the administrators. The Choir sang songs of praises to set up the mood.

While the teachers enjoyed their special dinner, Mr. Marlon, Ms. Wendy, and Mr. Bem sang songs as a tribute to Ajarn Samai. The closing remarks was given by Ajarn Samai himself. His encouraging words stirred everyone to value life and stay focused towards the realization of the school vision. “It was indeed an inspiring night”, one said.

It’s a new day... It’s a new life... and there’s no better way than to spend learning with St. John Mary because everday is a new day of learning where young minds grow broader with ideas and challenges along the way.

Every Monday Becomes Yellow Day

A

s part of the celebration of His Majesty the King, everyone wears yellow on Monday with the King’s logo on the upper left corner of the shirt. The yellow signifies the color of the King and thus, you can see people everywhere in Thailand wearing yellow. It’s quite amusing to see all the students gathered in the cafeteria like a school of fish all swiming together in yellow. You could not even distinguish a teacher from a student. It is loyalty to the country that we wear yellow.

good choices in life such as exercise instead of wasting it on bad influence such as drugs and alchohol. Among 25 booths, ours got the 4th place and we are very proud of our students for putting such an excellent job. Thanks to Ms. Rujee, Mr. Vasanth, and committee for planning this well.

We made it successfully through our third year. I’d like to personally thank everyone in our elementary school for sticking with it. This has been a stellar year at SJMIS especially in our Elementary Section, and I would be remiss not to mention first the outstanding work of all our elementary teachers. We certainly learned a lot this year from the social and academic activities that the school provided for our students. And this year book is a witness as you browse through its pages. SJIMIS is here to provide a nurturing and challenging atmosphere where students are consistently progressing toward their maximum potential as a result of our commitment to their excellence. It’s evident that our students are growing everyday under the watchful eye of our caring and enthusiastic staff. Once again I’d like to appreciate and thank our hardworking teachers and supportive parents. It is their continual support that our Eagles Soar to Success! Continue to Sour with Pride! God bless!!!!!

St. John Mary International School Music by: Virnie Belnas-Zulueta Lyrics by: Lynnie P. Belnas

Hail, O SJMIS beloved, We sing our praise to you; Fountain of wisdom and knowledge Our success to you we owe; In your humble portals we find Love and respect for all mankind, In your name we proudly stand For the future is in your hand Refrain: Succeed Here, Succeed Anywhere, O SJMIS Make known your vision, fulfill your mission, Alma Mater beloved. Soar high like and eagle, with dignity and honor O School we love that God has blessed, We sing for you, SJMIS! (Back to Refrain) Coda: We pledge to you our loyalty SJMIS, forever be.
