The Appreciation Pavilion

The Appreciation Pavilion In the heart of Newbury street, there is a need for a more interactive and relaxing space while navigating through the shopping central of Boston that is Newbury Street. To solve this issue, I designed a landscape that provides shade to its interactors and at the same time creates an enviroment to enhance learning and meeting.

The pavilion space uses shade to define a place of gathering and learning. I was able to design a place of interest for the Children of the Montessori School across the street, providing shaded outdoor classrooms and open spaces for easy circulation. However, studying the setup of the John Hancock building, Trinity Church and The Prudential, I noticed a pattern of repetition and alignment. I then came up with three arc forms which also look like petals to form the pavilion.

The Giving Tree Moving on from the Pavilion project we were asked to pick a children’s book and I picked The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree is a book that tells a tale about a relationship between a boy and a tree. As an interpretation of the book, I developed my concept. Newbury street and Dartmouth street are both affluent places with a mixture of residential and commercial buildings. Looking at Copley square with the prudential, John Hancock and the holy trinity, There is a connection between all these buildings to the area based on hierarchy. So I decided to replicate this observation by making a pull and push out effect on the bays on both streets cantilevers and pull back in the building.

The Giving Tree is a book that tells a tale about a relationship between a boy and a tree. The boy loved the tree so much in childhood, but as he grew older the struggles of life played a part on their relationship. But no matter the struggle, the tree always remained loyal to the boy/man giving him materials to make his life beautiful.

The Musical Sound Box Berklee school of music can be coined as one of the most ancient and renowned institution of music. One of the main objectives of modernist adaptive architecture is replicating old styles of architecture with the new and simple styles. For this project I decided to make a building that replicates the classic architecture styles of berkeley and the modern style of architecture of the surrounding buildings.

The building is divided into three; the business sector(a semi private area), the commercial, the hospitality. So I used a concrete wall finish for the first facade then a glass facade down the middle which is the main circulation point of the building. As for the last facade, I placed long arched windows to imitate the classic style of architecture of Berklee building style . Finally, I have a garden at the basement level which is open to the sky and collects water during rainfall and is reused in the building. I also have solar energy collectors on the roof above the electronic lab. The solar energy and water collected is reused in building climate comfortability and electricity.

Axis Dance Company The art of dance is sometimes defined by the movement of an able bodied person giving a stigma that disabled people should not be involved in such activities. Because of this I decided to create a building that allowed open circulation for the dancers in wheel chairs and people that find it hard to move around both vertically (with the help of the hydraulic lifts) and through the building with ramps. Our main driving point here was heirarchy. That is; I used the disabilities of the performers to their own advantage.

Axis Dance Company’s main goal is to revive the art of movement and physical expression in those that are disabled, thus changing our views towards the limits of disability. Axis’ core beliefs are centered around the philosophy of balancing Advocacy, Artistry, and Engagement. It was essential that these central ideals were reflected in the experiences and forms that the architecture of the building creates. The building I created is more than just a facility for dance, rather it serves as a societal hub where people can gather to explore new opportunities and broaden their views on the art.

Revolutionof the Textile industry at North Adams Evolution

In a time when everything is done by robots rather than indigine workers of a city, North Adams has become irrelevant. The city of North Adams has a history of success in the manufacturing industry especially in the textile industry. For the project, my field of production is ECO-SNEAKERS - shoes that are completely manufactured from the growth of plants as dyes and waste products such as old shoes as parts of a mixture for new shoes. This would bring back the relevance of the textile manufacturing industry to North Adams as well as make the Man-power in the city more relevant.

For this project, I created spaces where people can donate their old clothing items while going through the attractive structures and landscape that guide one through the site. There is also a growth farm that is used to grow plants such as dafodills which can be crushed and used as a dye. The reasoning behind my idea is to make an environment whereby citizens generate a habit of recycling their old products and learn how it is done at the same time. For my forms, I was influenced by the overwhelming topographical changes/ curves posed by the site. So in response to that, I decided to replicate the curves formed on the site using form finding methods originally practiced by Heinz isler. I went through several forms in relation to natural forces and human made forces. For example, sun direction, wind direction and Private and public spaces. By doing this I was able to create a space that is relatable to both the kids and adults with the presence of sculptural gardens on the upper floors, Indoor/outdoor Educational spaces, and a roof garden restaurant.
