HILS Scavenger Hunt

18-22 July 2022

July saw the inaugural HILS Scavenger Hunt. We wanted to put on an event which would be engaging, fun, free and open to everyone.

The Hunt was designed so that it could be completed by people anywhere in the county. There were 15 tasks / hunt items which had to be completed in teams of 4. Pictures had to be taken as evidence of completion of the tasks and had to include at least 3 team members in each picture. Here is the Scavenger Hunt List:

You must take pictures of the following:

1. Your team with an animal

2. Your team with a body of water (fountain, pond, lake, etc)

3. The team wearing an item from a first aid kit

4. The team each holding a different vegetable or fruit

5. The tallest building you can find (please include name of building in your submission)

6. A red postal mail box

7. The front door / window of a law firm in the area

8. A Spiders Web

9. All members of the team wrapped up as a Mummy

10. The team licking an Ice Cream each

11. The team with a double decker bus

12. The team each balancing a pebble / rock on their heads

13. The team at a church / cathedral (religious building)

14. The team at the funniest / most unusual / silliest street or road sign

15. Most original sports photo i.e. the team competing in or completing any sporting event, race, challenge, game

You will be able to see from the pictures that a lot of fun was had by those that took part and the interesting interpretations of the tasks. The hunt also covered a reasonable array of the county from Southampton common right down to Portsmouth seafront.

First prize was Afternoon Tea and Tour for 4 of Hambledon Vineyard and the Runners Up prize was a bottle of Hambledon Classic Cuvee Rose. HILS are extremely grateful to them for their assistance and donation of the first prize. Hambledon Vineyard is England’s oldest commercial vineyard and is right here on our doorstep in Hampshire. Established in 1952 by Major-General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones it has a rich heritage of innovation in English winemaking. HILS are very pleased that this event was a success and we hope to run more things like this in the future.

‘The beauty of this was that members could take part with family, with friends and / or with work colleagues, so it was available to everyone and captured a wide audience. I am so happy to see that people enjoyed taking part and also getting to spend time with others having a giggle, from some of the pictures I can see that people had a great laugh doing this’. ■
