The WILDE Foundation H&F Writers’ Festival
Now in its fourth year, the Hammersmith & Fulham Writers’ Festival, for Female Authors of Colour and Indie Authors 2024 is set to take place across two days, produced by The WILDE Foundation.
Author and Festival Director, Rasheda Malcolm says, “this unique and inspiring festival, primarily platforms and celebrates marginalised women writers, and Indie authors from all backgrounds. It is an event that inspires and encourages the audience to start their own writing project. All this and they get to meet the authors.”
2024 is set to bring a unique mixture of literary debates, author events and workshops to encourage new writing and enrich reading.
The two-day festival, which takes place on the 5th and 6th July in London, offers a line-up of established authors. Sunday Times bestselling author, Candice Brathwaite, award winning author, Kelechi Okafor, Jendella Benson, and George the Poet, among many more.
We intend for H&F Writers’ Festival to become one of the most significant writing festivals for female authors of colour and indie authors in the UK, attracting thousands of people who share a passion for books, writing and reading.
The events focus on addressing the question of ‘the single story’, and what it means to be a female writer in the 21st century, with author interviews, panel debates and discussions.
TWF H&F Writers’ Festival is in part a reaction to the overwhelmingly homogenous view of contemporary writing presented by UK literary festivals. In 2014, only 4% of the 2000-plus authors featured at the UK’s three largest literary festivals came from marginalised backgrounds; the other 96% were white.
The creation of the Writers’ Festival is a step toward empowering voices that are often absent in the literary mainstream. As the festival director, Rasheda Malcolm states, “In a world where minoritised creative talent struggles to be recognised, we need to create something epic and magical to platform our own authors – this is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.” www.handfwritersfestival.co.uk
