West London Chambers of Commerce

The West London Chambers Annual Regeneration Conference is on 16th May 2024.

Lately, when you hear the term "drone" being thrown around you may immediately associate it with extreme terms such as 'war', 'terrorism' or even 'sabotage'. This is due to the safety concerns that have been highlighted through major news channels across the globe. We like to use the term "Unmanned Aircraft System". It is more representative of the professionals who offer services as a business by leveraging the capabilities of these systems. What can Unmanned Aircraft Systems do? The possibilities are near limitless, however, the sector is heavily restricted due to a lack of understanding by the general public. While regulation has established the groundwork over the past five years, public awareness is something that still needs to be addressed properly. Nevertheless, today, you can hire a “UAS” professional to conduct visual surveys of all kinds.

Is it safe for services near Heathrow?

Absolutely! Prior to the establishment of regulations, one of the main issues that restricted the use of UAS was a lack of communication between the pilots and relevant parties (If we knew who they were at all). Thankfully, presently the UAS Operators and Pilots have a semi-structured approach to follow. This involves active communication taking place between airports, local authorities, wildlife reserve management, the police, landlords and any other affected parties. Collectively, it is still a tedious process and productivity is limited by the uncertainty in turnaround times for submitted applications.
