What We Are Passionate About...

It is estimated that each year, 8,000 women enter prison. Over half of these women have survived emotional, physical or sexual abuse during childhood, and nearly half were suspended from school.

Tomorrow’s Women is a charity led by women for women based in Wirral and Chester and was created based on the principles outlined in the 2007 Corston report. Baroness Corston visited UK women’s prisons and identified that for many women who had committed non-violent crimes, prison was both disproportionate and inappropriate. Corston suggested the importance of identifying the underlying issues that led to a woman committing an offence in order to stop the cycle of re-offending.

Tomorrow’s Women began as a project in a small room and was set up to work with women within the criminal justice system or on the periphery of offending by providing tailored interventions to prevent offending and support women in making positive lifestyle changes. Due to the success and growth of the project, Tomorrow’s Women became a registered Charity in 2012 and moved into independent accommodation situated in central Birkenhead, which remains the main centre site to date. Following identifying the need for support for women in the Cheshire West area and obtaining a contract with the Ministry of Justice, Tomorrow’s Women Chester was launched in 2023 in Chester city centre at 5 Upper Northgate Street.
