ONE WAY SAFETY ISSUES There has been tremendous support for our petition to Suffolk County Council regarding road safety highlighted in the last issue of the Bungay Rose. A variety of issues surfaced from comments left by those who signed the petition. These ranged from “Need a more clear indication of who has right of way at the roundabout outside Wightmans” and a call for the priority to be given for the “removal of the dangerous brick road markings on the roundabout.” “Parking is still an issue, speeding is still an issue, HGV’s are an issue, crossings are an issue” summed up the feelings of a number of respondents. Other points included “regular policing of parking bays” to ensure that disabled parking was not used inappropriately and “misusing bays by parking all day in 30 min waiting zones” Disabled & older residents have commented on personal difficulties encountered trying to cross St Marys Street and requested the urgent reintroduction of controlled crossings.

BUNGAY COMMUNITY CENTRE Questions need to be answered Labour acting on residents concerns are now fact finding. Local Labour candidates have the following questioning to ask about current plans for our new community centre: 

Have all relevant groups and individuals been consulted?

What is the budget, and how much more still needs to be raised?

When is building likely to start and when is it scheduled for completion?

Why are we not building on the original central site?

Are there enough parking places in the new plans?

Has the potential risk associated with overflow parking in Old Grammar School Lane inhibiting emergency vehicles from the fire station been properly analysed?

RURAL COMMUNITIES LET DOWN BY WITHDRAWAL OF FUNDING Maybe you know your local community council, rather than the ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) network itself – either way, they do a remarkable job in our often forgotten rural areas, where deprivation still remains hidden and help is difficult to access. The Network is the only nationwide organisation with a dedicated rural focus; building community resilience, strengthening local enterprise and supporting the most vulnerable in our society. In addition, it is the only network that provides advice to the 80,000 volunteers who keep England’s 10,000 village halls alive. It has been supported by Government investment for ninety years, but this New Year it was advised by civil servants to expect no further funding from Defra.
