A Note From The Director Do you download and read or listen to books and magazines? Do you know that Berkeley County Library System has two resources, Jasmine Digital Library and OneClickDigital, offering digital books, and Zinio, offering digital magazines? Each of these resources is free if you have a library card. You can download the app for your Apple or Android phone, eReader, or tablet, and easily access the listings and download the selection quickly. From Jasmine Digital Library and OneClickDigital you can “borrow” eBooks or eAudiobooks. Our library has thousands of books on topics ranging from politics to romance, and a variety for all ages. Are you looking for a classic mystery or a self-help book? A children’s picture book or one by the latest teen author? Browse our Jasmine Digital Library and OneClickDigital catalogs and see what we have to offer. In Zinio, you’ll find 60 titles, with current and back issues available, ranging from woodworking to fashion, crafting, computers, and science.

Donna Worden, Director

Visit us online at berkeleylibrarysc.org/resources to see what we have available. And, if there’s a title you want us to add, let us know. Just click on the “Contact Us” in the upper right hand corner of our website, tell us what you want, and, if possible, we’ll add it.

Employee Sp tlights Sinteara, Computer Operator/PC Support

Sinteara is one of the people the staff turns to in times of computer trouble. Many times staff are able to troubleshoot computer issues but sometimes we need the expert! Sinteara never gets frazzled, she asks what the problem is and immediately works to solve it. She is always professional and informs the staff about how to fix and troubleshoot issues, especially with the public work stations. She inspires the staff to learn more in order to pass on things to our library users. Sinteara also opens up and illumines those terrifying computer issues we sometimes encounter. Her patience is unlimited, her ability to explain complicated matters is reassuring and her cheerfulness and love of her job is inspiring! Thank you Sinteara, for helping to keep things running for our branches. ~ Margie

Laura, Sangaree Library Team Leader Laura Baker does an excellent job of bringing joy to the work place. Not only does she help make every day a little bit more fun, but she also does a great job helping customers and staff. She brings with her a positive attitude, great ideas, and wonderful insights that are invaluable to us. ~ Rieta

Carol, Goose Creek Library Circulation Supervisor Carol is an incredible asset to the Goose Creek Library. She works very hard to ensure that customer needs are met in an effective and friendly manner. She has a natural ability to put people at ease and to make them feel welcome. She is constantly multi-tasking and if she is ever stressed, she does not show it. She sets a great example for all of us here! We are so thankful to have her as our Circulation Supervisor! ~ Ashley

Moncks Corner Staff I would like to nominate the entire Moncks Corner Team for their perseverance through the loss of friend and co-worker, Peggy Moultrie. Through the shock of such an untimely passing, the rush of the holidays, and maintaining the regular duties at the branch, the team never faltered in serving their public and showed kind support to each other in an unthinkable situation honoring the memory of Miss Peggy. ~ Laura

Kristen, Marketing/PR Coordinator and Barbara, Outreach/Children’s Librarian

Kristen and Barbara worked tirelessly on the planning of our 2nd Annual Tri-county Literary Celebration. Sponsorships were obtained, promotional materials created and printed, volunteers recruited, authors contacted and registered along with many other behind the scenes duties necessary for the success of this large event. ~ Karen

The 2nd Annual Tri-County Literary Celebration Boast Another Successful

Important Dates to Remember Gathering of Local Authors and Readers

MAR 25 - 26 | Closed for Easter MAY 27 | Closed for Staff Development MAY 28 - 30 | Closed for Memorial Day

The 2nd Annual Tri-County Literary Celebration (TLC) returned to the Lowcountry on Feb. 6th. This familyfriendly event, aimed to recognize published authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties, drew in more than 2,000 Lowcountry readers to meet and purchase works from the 75 local authors and publishers exhibiting at the show. Many of the exhibitors wasted no time sending in their graditude for the event, such as the heartfelt thank you note from, Ellen E. Hyatt, a local poet and professor at Charleston Southern University who joined us at the TLC to showcase her most recent poety collection titled Or Wrap Ourselves in What Remains. Ellen writes, “I want you to know how pleasant the atmosphere was at the Tri-County Literary Celebration. Volunteers really looked out for and cared about us authors. Festivities at the event included performances from literary characters such Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and Fancy Nancy (portrayed by local high school students). Food was available for purchase courtesy of the Cane Bay Booster Club. Participants were also able to meet MORE, the Berkeley County Library System’s newest mascot fashioned and named after the library’s bookmobile. Children The Tri-County Literary Celebration was made possible by the support of several community partners: The Berkeley County Library System, Old Santee Canal Park, The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, Berkeley County School District, The Friends of the Berkeley County Library, and Cypress Gardens and Friends with special thanks to sponsors including: Molina Healthcare, Nucor Steel, Orvin’s Furniture and Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc. to name a few as well as a grant from the Humanities Council sc .
