Can Chiropractic Care help with
Plantar Fasciitis? Plantar fasciitis affects many people, and traditional care often does not provide effective relief from symptoms. Chiropractic care is an excellent holistic treatment plan for the condition, and has proven to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for patients. Much of the pain in the foot is inflammation, and chiropractic care helps to reduce inflammation and improve the flexibility of motion in the foot.
What is Plantar Fasciitis? Plantar fasciitis is a condition that refers to a lingering pain on the bottom of the foot. The stabbing heel pain associated with plantar fasciitis is frequently experienced when you get out of bed in the morning and take your first steps. As you continue moving throughout the day, your heel pain may decrease for brief periods of time but the pain may once again intensify
after long periods of standing or sitting. Plantar fascia is a long band of thick, fibrous tissue that extends along the bottom of your foot from your heel to your toes. When this tissue becomes inflamed, irritated or damaged, it can cause intense heel pain.
What Causes Plantar Fasciitis? Most of the time, Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the ligament that supports the arch becomes strained. However, there are a number of precipitating factors that can lead to inflammation of the plantar fascia. Some of these things include: • Over-pronating (rolling your feet inward when you walk) • Having flat feet (or, conversely, high-arched feet) • Being overweight • Standing for long periods of time in bad shoes • Having tight Achilles tendons • Sudden increase in repetitive stress activities, such as running or cycling • Wearing the wrong shoes • Hip misalignment
