Word on the Street The Newsletter of Bethnal Green Academy and Sixth Form
Sixth Form Open Evening On Thursday we were shown just how fantastic life and learning are at Bethnal Green Academy Sixth Form. Year 11 students from BGA and from other schools came along with their parents and carers to see what our Sixth Form has to offer. The subject stands were really eye-catching and engaging with activities and demonstrations led by our current Sixth Form students who were fantastic ambassadors for the Academy. Queen Mary’s University and King’s College London came along to offer advice and information and the Sixth Form support team and Sixth Form Committee were on hand to help. Students gave confident and informative speeches about their experiences in the Sixth Form, introduced by Head Boy, Arif and Head Girl, Sharmin to help visitors get a real sense of what is on offer at BGA Sixth Form.

To support with this Allen & Overy have sponsored our Artbeat Enterprise project. Over the next 12 weeks students will develop a detailed business plan as well as products for sale before eventually pitching their ideas to funders for support.
In true Apprentice fashion, A&O have arranged for us to sell our products to the public in Spitalfields on 21st May 2013. On Tuesday 12th March we went to the Lichtenstein exhibition shop at the Tate Modern to see how artwork is developed into merchandise. Learners also conducted crucial market research to feed into their product development process.

Last Tuesday BGA was host to a group of visiting teachers from the Hubei Provincial Department of Education arranged by SSAT. The purpose of their visit was to observe teaching and learning at BGA and learn about the English education system. Our Year 8 Mandarin Chinese group had their first opportunity to speak to native Chinese speakers and they were great ambassadors for their school as they discussed their experiences of learning languages and other subjects with our visitors.
