Wherefore art thou? Romeo & Juliet Drop-Day today. Exactly one year on from our incredibly fun, Macbeth-themed event, a.k.a. The Scottish Day we welcome the 2011 Teach First participants to our latest Shakespearean experience, R&J Day. Our guest English specialists will be working alongside students from Years 7 and 8 on a range of writing and literacy workshops exploring language, poetry and writing to persuade. As if that wasn’t enough, we also have 2 more special events happening today. Year 9 students are taking part in The Big STEM Wind-Up in which they are challenged to build sustainably fuelled vehicles and see which can travel the furthest distance. I really want to have a go at this myself. May the best car win! Last but not least, our Year 6 students joining us in September will be coming in to take part in the fun-filled puzzle day hosted by the Problem Solving Company. Again, this is something I will be trying throughout the course of the day. If you like puzzles, try out (Mr.) Pedley’s Puzzle Page overleaf.
I “like” it.
BGTC joins Facebook. It’s about time I hear you say. Bethnal Green Technology College is venturing into the world of the social networks. We now have our very own, official, Facebook and Twitter pages, and Tumblr too. We are going to trial them up until the end of term and see how many people “like” and/or “follow” us. So, if you’re reading this online, click a link of your choosing below, and for those of you with a printed copy and a Blackberry, snap the QR code above. We’ll be keeping the feeds up-to-date with our weekly newsletter articles as well as upcoming events from SoL Fest. and highlights from the past academic year. Tweet tweet!

Save the future. Run to Uganda Challenge Mr. White is taking part in an Iron Man endurance race and is raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and he needs your help. Donations would be very welcome but we thought that was too easy. Instead, we are setting up running machines in the street and every student and every teacher can give 20p and run as far as they can. Every mile counts as tutor groups, year groups and faculties will compete against each other to race to Uganda! It’s approximately 4000 miles, so you need to work as a team to win! Why Uganda? Our school’s charity of the year, PEAS ( Pr o m o t i n g E q u a l i t y i n African Schools) raises money and builds school there to help improve access to education. Look out for more information on the “grass” area of The Street next week and let the race begin!
To be or not to be in the school play? Auditions for Romeo & Juliet
OK, so this isn’t a quote from Romeo & Juliet!
Following on neatly from our Shakespearean drop-day, Ms. Gill will be holding auditions for our very own production of Romeo & Juliet. As part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, we’re looking for talented actors to tread the boards. Come along and join the fun. All years welcome.
Romeo & Juliet Auditions Friday 8 July | See Ms. Gill for further information.

Last week
It’s about time we had a good, old fashioned maths puzzle!
We had a question for you about clocks. We asked...
Can you fill in the blanks with the numbers 1 to 8 so that all the equations are true?
A sundial is a timepiece that has the fewest number of moving parts. Which timepiece has the most number of moving parts?
You can only use each number once. As always, post your answers in a Voice Box or return them to Mr. Pedley.

Answer: an hourglass.
