BGA’s young ambassadors A warm welcome to the Academy.
BGA Open Evening and Y7 Meet the Tutor events were a great success on Thursday thanks to the help of those students who helped to show our visitors just what a great place BGA is to learn and to enjoy school life. Sixth Form students were great ambassadors, helping to guide parents and carers around the Academy in a positive and mature way. Year 7 students gave their families a chance to see what a great start they have made to their first year at BGA. Staff and students organised some really engaging activities in their classrooms and made everyone feel welcome. There were many positive comments from parents and carers. Well done to all involved!
A phenomenal presentation by enterprising Alex Year 11 student Alex Petre took part in a celebration event this week for a business enterprise programme that he completed at the end of last term and during the summer. Alex delivered an extremely confident presentation in front of 30-40 people at State Street Bank, Canary Wharf - a very professional and corporate business environment. Keynote speakers included ‘Slumdog Secret Millionaire’ and dentist Seema Sharma and Laura Wood, a representative from the Prime Minister’s Office. Alex talked about his experience on the programme and how it helped him develop his entrepreneurial skills and gave him confidence in his business class. Alex was one of three young people selected to speak at the event where staff from BGA and other local schools were there to support the students involved. Ms. Cordice said “Alex was phenomenal”. Bethnal Green Academy was presented with an award for participation in the programme and we are proud of Alex’s achievement and excellent presentation. Watch out for this future entrepreneur!
Coffee and Cakes in the LRC Sweet treats for a good cause BGA students hosted a Coffee and Cakes Morning in the library on Friday to support The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, an event organised to raise money for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Visitors and staff enjoyed a relaxing break with a lovely cuppa and a choice of delicious cakes, served with a smile by our fundraisers. All money raised will be donated to this worthy cause.

There is still time for you to share your ideas and suggestions for names for the main serving area, the wrap bar and the new sandwich area. Suggestions so far include: BGA Bistro, Eat on the Street, BGA Diner. Can you come up with a catchy name. Write down your ideas and give them to your form tutor.
The only way is up!
A new way to get around the Academy... On Monday BGA introduced a new way to get to and from your classes in zones 2 and 3. Remember, you can only use the stairs from the Street in Zone 2 and in the Maths Department in Zone 3 to go UP to MLF, Humanities, English, Drama and Music and the Sixth Form centre. When you leave classes in these departments you must walk DOWN the stairs at the back of the hallways. One way UP and one way DOWN. This is designed to help you get to your lessons quickly and to reduce the traffic on the stairs. Don’t get caught out - follow signs and listen out for instructions!
Word up! We are looking for students who can help us to make sure that Word on the Street includes news about your sporting achievements, events, clubs and trips. You can write about your favourite book or film or share your poems with us. Get involved - get writing!
