Celebrating Difference Week

On the week commencing the 22nd February BGA hosted its 3rd “Celebrating Difference Week” a celebration to bring disability and special educational needs to the forefront of the minds of our students and staff. The week started with an inspiring talk from Invictus games athlete Andy Grant. Tuesday saw BGA students record a podcast on the subject of autism. Also on Tuesday and Wednesday BGA students had the unique opportunity to be coached by West Ham football club led by England International Cerebral Palsy player, Emyle Rudder and also photographer Rosie Barnes gave a talk on what is like to live with her autistic son Stanley. Thursday saw Inspirational speech given by Javed Moore, a wheelchair user with 22nd - 26th FEBRUARY 2016 BETHNAL GREEN ACADEMY Cerebral Palsy. The Evening of Thursday 25th played host to the Celebrating Difference Awards an award ceremony to celebrate all our inspirational students and staff. The night included music and an emotional “Outstanding Achievement Award” for Abdulahi Yussuf. The week ended in quiet reflection of what staff and students had learned throughout the week. The week was huge success with excellent comments from visitors about the atmosphere and professionalism of the Academy. Thank you everyone at BGA for your support in another fantastic Celebrating Difference Week!

Don't DIS MY ABILITY

BGA Art students recieve University offers Our Year 13 art students have been busy getting their portfolios ready for University interviews. Here’s what they had to say about the process: Theodore Barbey I have done a lot of travelling around the country for university interviews which has meant that I have discovered new places such as Leeds and Cornwall. I have had three interviews so far, all leading to offers for degree courses in Photography (BA Hons) at University of Falmouth, University of Westminster and University of Lancashire. Cesar Britez I am lucky to have received two offers so far to study Graphic Design at University of East London and University of Westminster. I had to carry a huge, heavy portfolio but the good news was that they really admired my work and told me to thank my art teachers. I have more interviews coming up. Monika I have been offered places at Ravensbourne University to study BA Architecture and University of Westminster to study Interior Architecture. I applied to universities around London as some of the best Architects firms are located here. I’m very happy as the competition is very high.
