The Berliner district of Schöneberg emerged from a small village of the same name. With the expansion of Berlin in the “Gründerzeit” – the years of rapid industrial growth in Germany at the end of the 19th century – the district of Schöneberg also grew in importance as a new settlement area. The Schöneberg Town Hall was not only the scene of John F. Kennedy‘s famous 1963 “Ich bin ein Berliner!” speech, but was also the residence of the Senate of Berlin (West) from 1949 to 1991 and thus the seat of such important mayors as Ernst

KÄRNTENER 8 Location
Kärntener Straße is a quiet residential street which branches off from the main Hauptstraße and ends as a culde-sac. It is located in the center of the “Schöneberger triangle”, making it an ideal location for couples, young families and singles. The street has excellent links to the main transport arteries of the city. To the east and the west, both the ring and northsouth S-bahn train lines as well as the underground station Innsbrucker Platz can easily be reached on foot. On-ramps to the city motorways A 100 and A 103 are only a short 2 minute drive away. Restaurants, food retailers and supermarkets are all within walking distance of Kärntener Straße 8.

A HERITAGE BUILDING The Property
Kärntener Straße 8 was constructed in the years 18991900 based on the plans of the architects Eckert and Dannenberg. The building has an impressive street presence due to its five full floors and roof storey as well as its central facade axis which is crowned and decorated with a volute stepped gable roof. Two courtyards with two side
wings, a transverse building and a historic coach house lie behind the street front. The letters “Bäcker-Innung Berlin”, meaning “Baker’s Guild Berlin”, on the street facade refer to the traditional mixed residential and commercial use of the building. Today, it is one of three historically listed buildings on Kärntener Straße.

The buildings at Kärntener StraĂ&#x;e 8 are now being refurbished with greatest respect for their history and architecture. There will also be a mixed use of residential and studios space in the future. External staircases in the rear courtyards as well as balconies and terraces provide a relaxed appearance. The entire communal property is being refurbished by the building owner in a tasteful, functional and high-quality manner.
