COVER ARTIST Birds-eye View by Anne Peyton
“Seeing a Eurasian Eagle Owl for the first time left me awestruck. They are among the largest of all owls in the world but what captured my attention were those large, pumpkin-colored eyes. Depending on the part of Europe, they range from a species of least concern in some areas to an endangered species
in others. During the 1900’s, Eurasian Eagle Owl populations declined drastically when humans hunted and poisoned them. With increased protection by local governments and reintroduction in some areas, these owls are slowly making a come-back.” Anne Peyton is a Signature member of Artists for Conservation and resides in Arizona, USA. Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre
The Buckhorn Fine Art Festival is the exclusive Ontario venue for the Artists for Conservation International Exhibit of Nature in Art and the last stop on this year’s tour. This juried display by AFC members can be found in the Special Exhibit area of the Community Centre. Artists for Conservation (AFC) is an international leader in reconnecting the public to nature. AFC links worldclass art and a global community of artists with critical wildlife and nature conservation causes to inspire the public to become engaged and better informed. It helps to raise funds and awareness for diverse conservation projects in the field. For more information on the AFC, please visit their website www.artistsforconservation.org
The Buckhorn Fine Art Festival welcomes the following guest exhibitors: Kawartha Land Trust
Kawartha Land Trust is a nongovernmental organization and a registered charity dedicated to acquiring land and interests in land and maintaining it in a natural state. More than twenty significant natural sites, along with the life they support, are currently preserved under KLT. This progress is only made possible through devoted community partners, generous land donors and financial supporters, and extraordinary volunteers who give their time to become stewards of the land. Visit their display in the Hummingbird Gallery. More information can be found at www.kawarthalandtrust.org 6
Seven of the eight species of turtles in Ontario are listed as at-risk. Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre is dedicated to conserving our remaining turtle populations and the wetlands in which they live. This is achieved by operating a one-of-a-kind turtle hospital to treat, rehabilitate and release injured turtles, completing research and conservation work in the field, and working to educate others about the importance of turtles and our wetland ecosystems. Drop by the outdoor display in Festival Park (Saturday only) and visit www.kawarthaturtle.org for more information.
Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters

This coupled with other programs such as the Nature Guardians Youth Council,
the Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas, and the Boreal and Greenway programs, Ontario Nature offers something for everyone. You’ll find their display in the Community Centre building. For more information, visit www.ontarionature.org
