onight’s Host: T Craig Fouhy

Entertainment by JTM3

A three-time Emmy Award winner, Craig Fouhy is sports director and sports anchor at ABC15.

Craig gives Valley viewers his unique coach’s perspective on the world of sports. Known for his honesty, Fouhy isn’t afraid to share his opinion during his popular “Fouhy on Sports” and “In The Ring” segments.

This evening’s entertainment will feature JTM3, a power harmony trio comprised of Jay Allan (Uncommon Good, Delcoa), Tony King (Young Country, Delcoa) and Matthew Henderson (EastonAshe).

He joined ABC15 in 1998, and during his tenure, he has served as a morning news anchor, co-host of the popular morning show Sonoran Living, host of the Sunday Night sports show “Sports Sunday”, the Cardinals show, “Monday Night Live”, and he has hosted DIY segments for the parent company, E.W. Scripps.

They combine impeccably smooth 3-part harmony with thoughtfully crafted songwriting, solid groove and instrument prowess to deliver a true mix of Americana, blues, folk and funk. Formed in early 2019, JTM3 has quickly gained the attention of the Arizona music scene and are poised to make noticeable sonic waves well into this year and beyond.

In addition to television and coaching, Craig has also been a play-by-play announcer and color commentator for college football television and radio, as well as a public-address announcer for several professional, college and high school sports teams across the country.

With live and studio music being released monthly, as well as many upcoming tour dates, you will be hearing a lot from this brotherhood of artists/friends as they grow. You can find their music wherever you stream music as well as videos on YouTube.

Craig graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington majoring in education, with minors in political science, history and coaching.

After Party Immediately following tonight’s Stars program, JTM3 will continue to entertain you at the Stars AfterParty including complimentary cocktails, coffee and hors d’oeuvres.

When he’s not working, Craig loves to spend time with his family. He and his wife Kimb live in the East Valley and enjoy getting involved with the community.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley

Honoring Insight Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley is proud to celebrate the unparalleled impact of Insight Enterprises Inc. Founded in Tempe in 1988 and now operating in 19 countries, Insight builds meaningful connections to help their clients and communities run smarter. Nearly 12,000 teammates live by their core values: they show Hunger, Heart and Harmony in everything they do.

“ I strongly believe that technology is our greatest resource for doing good. It can magnify noble causes with an incomparable ability to scale, automate, innovate and communicate.” — Joyce Mullen, President and CEO, Insight Enterprises

HUNGER • We are change agents, united in our passion to improve every day and deliver outstanding results for our clients, partners and Insight.

Insight Reach, the company’s charitable-giving program, encourages Insight’s teammates in North America to give back through endeavors that emphasize educational opportunities for children, particularly through STEM-based nonprofit partnerships. In 2021, the company’s charitable contributions amounted to $1.6 million globally.

HEART • We are teammates. We take care of each other, our clients and our communities. HARMONY • We are a team of diverse individuals who value inclusivity and create meaningful connections so we can win together.

Through Reach, Insight helps children be ambitious about exploring careers in technology. One aspect of this is the company’s annual “Noble Cause” campaign, which wrapped up its 11th year in December by donating a total of $250,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

At the heart of Insight Enterprises’ purpose of building meaningful connections to help businesses and communities run smarter is the belief that technology can change lives in profound ways. Positively impacting a child’s life is the greatest expression of this, which is why Insight’s community mission centers on enhancing technology’s reach to youth.

Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Stars 2022

Since Insight provides its teammates two paid “Heart Days” per year to dedicate to community volunteering — equivalent to 86,000 volunteer hours annually. The company also annually donates Macbooks and other computer equipment to Club teenagers who are preparing for college. 8

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley

“ Technology can have an enormous impact on the world. It’s second nature to our children, and we are dedicated to giving them greater access so they can use it as a force for good in their lives.”

Our community is fortunate that Insight lives their values, including investing in Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley. Over the past 30 years, Insight has given their time to our members, they’ve partnered on technology improvements and they offer expertise in board service. We look forward to celebrating Insight’s many contributions to our community. Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Stars 2022

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley

The Journey To The Stars Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley serves as one of the critical interventions in the lives of thousands of youth in our Valley communities. Many Club youth and teens are navigating rough roads at home and consider the Club to be their second home and safe space.

and public speaking. Once selected, these teens begin a life-changing journey. They are challenged to explore their personal history, formative experiences, finding meaning in their talents and challenges, and sharing those with the world in only a 3-minute speech. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley’s Youth of the Year program requires a strong commitment from each candidate. We set high expectations for our members, especially candidates for this program. Through the Youth of the Year program, candidates have the opportunity to develop their writing and presentation skills as well as engage in specialized workshops designed to help them find their unique “voice” and story to share with our prestigious judging panel.

Each Youth of the Year (YOY) has faced challenges and hardships that most of us have never, and will never experience, especially at their age. They’ve watched their families struggle with loss, violence, poverty, and more. With the support of our Clubs’ Youth Development Professionals, these teens have worked hard to not let these situations hold them back from accomplishing their goals and becoming leaders in their community.

These are just 10 outstanding Youth of the Year representing the 13,000+ youth we serve. In January, our Youth of the Year candidates shared their powerful stories with friends, family, and Boys & Girls Clubs staff at the Celebrating Youth Event. Each teen presented their final speeches to an esteemed panel of judges and had the opportunity for a one-onone meeting with each of them as part of the judging process. We hope that you will enjoy the stories of courage, resilience, compassion, kindness, and hope from these extraordinary teens. Thanks to your generosity tonight, each of these teens has the opportunity to pursue their dreams!

Every year, each Club works to identify exceptional teens who embody the traits that Boys & Girls Clubs work to instill in each of our 13,000+ members. Youth of the Year Candidates are selected based on service leadership in the areas of home and family, character, community service, Club service, academic and life goals, along with written essays on Club Experience, Vision for America’s Youth, and Personal Brand. In addition, candidates are judged on poise, self-confidence, Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Stars 2022

akentae Cooks: 2021 Arizona State V Youth of the Year Winner Update In February 2021, Vakentae Cooks earned the title as the 2021 Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley Youth of the Year. From there, he went on to participate in the Arizona Youth of the Year program. He performed well and became the Arizona State Youth of the Year.

“ The Club became a place where I could grow into a writer, a designer and most importantly, a place where I was free to be me.” — Vakentae Cooks, 2021 Youth of the Year

Cooks graduated from Central High School in Phoenix last May and started his freshman year of college in the fall of 2021 at Prescott College. He is currently enrolled in their education program studying to be a secondary education English teacher and minoring in psychology. He plans on getting his master’s degree so he can work with Boys & Girls Club of the Valley and also aspires to work in foster care. He is still upholding that same Boys & Girls Club perseverance and shares that the Club has helped his ability to handle new situations. Vakentae still feels supported miles away. “I wouldn’t be able to go to college or be where I am right now without the Boys & Girls Clubs.”

Jessica Davis Jessica has been a Club member at the Superstition Branch for nine years. Her ambition and enthusiasm shines through everything she does. Her determination and dedication have helped her to figure out how to be more successful in school by setting goals that are obtainable for her. During her membership, she has volunteered over 4,500 hours to help our community and has become a mentor for many of the members of her Club. She has also held positions such as vice president and treasurer of Torch Club as well as treasurer for Keystone. Jessica became a coach and referee for different Club sports including flag football, soccer, t-ball, and basketball. While coaching, she taught them how to strive to be a great team player and how to not give up once you start something. At the end of each season the kids were excited to start another sport, especially if Jessica would be their coach again.

Superstition Mountain Branch Age 16 Senior Leading Edge Academy

Jessica enjoys being a mentor to Club members so much so that during the summer, she participated in ‘Leader in Training’ at her Club which she has done for the past four years. In this program, Jessica would help kindergarteners to second graders improve their reading and comprehension. She gives 110% to those she mentors and shows them that as long as they try and do the best they can, they are successful. Q: What is one thing (or your favorite thing) you’ve had the opportunity to do because of the Boys & Girls Club? One favorite thing that I’ve had the opportunity to do because of the Boys & Girls Club has been becoming a Leader in Training because of the experiences and opportunities. I was able to go to White Mountains, kayaking, sports games, and assist the staff. Q: What’s your favorite quote or saying? “From the beginning I wanted to be the best. Mason Espendez Mason has been a member of the Stewart Club since 2011. During those 10 years, he has participated in many Boys & Girls Club programs and events. He considers his involvement in the ‘Better to Give’ program to be one of the most impactful programs for him. In this program, he and his fellow teens would perform community service hours as a means to earn “money” for gifts that were to be given to families in need. This was just one of many programs that have taught Mason the importance of giving back. Mason has also sought out opportunities to volunteer outside of the Club, such as supporting the food bank, donating time at an animal shelter, packing up gifts for foster care children, and assisting with a women’s self-defense class. These experiences have helped shape Mason into a kind and thoughtful young man.

Spencer D. & Mary Jane Stewart Branch Age 17 Senior Western School of Science & Technology

Mason is currently a senior at Western School of Science & Technology. He is proud of his academic achievements and continued success in his advanced placement courses. Mason aspires to be an engineer, more specifically a Sustainable Civil Engineer. While Mason doesn’t claim any sport as a favorite, he enjoys all of them. He is always looking to stay active whether it is through working out, boxing, or practicing Tae Kwon Do. He has earned his first-degree black belt! He also enjoys listening to music and cooking/trying new foods. Q: Who would you like to have dinner with and why? I would like to have dinner with my older brother, Zakory. I would choose to have dinner with him because he is serving in the Navy now. We are going to be apart for quite some time. When we have family dinner with him, I will talk with him and rejoice over our accomplishments, as well as reminisce about our past while stuffing down a bunch of scrumptious foods. Q: What advice would you give to young people about joining the Club? A piece of advice that I would give future youth thinking about getting a membership is that the beginning is always the hardest. Adapting to a new environment is not always easy, however, the positive influences that the Club will provide will make the journey much easier.

Maya Martinez Fernandez Maya’s family have been members of the Peoria Branch for 12 years. To connect with the community, she has participated in Torch Club and Keystone. Additionally, she volunteered in her Clubs program areas, helping with more involved art projects that needed an extra set of hands. She has also had the opportunity to do volunteer work for many charities and organizations, including packaging food for St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Jerry & Helen Wisotsky/Peoria Branch Age 17 Senior Peoria High School

Maya has plans to become a nurse like her mother so she can help people in need. CPR certified, she’s also taking Sports Medicine and Child Development courses in school. She also has a passion for writing and wants to become an author focusing on creating stories that center on characters with mental health issues as a way to normalize conversation around and bring understanding to this issue. Maya has a desire to be a beacon of hope. Maya enjoys the theater arts and choir, and has aspirations to pursue acting. She is involved in these programs at her school and really enjoys the emotional outlet they provide. Q: Who would you like to have dinner with and why? I would absolutely love to have dinner with Hypatia of Alexandria. She was one of the best mathematicians and philosophers of her time around 355 AC, and basically revolutionized the world of math single handedly. When she was murdered, part of the mathematic and philosophy world died with her as well. I would love to know about her in person, and see all the bright and intelligent ideas she had. Q: What technology are you most excited about in the future? I, for one, am very excited for the different kinds of medicines and advanced technology we could create for illnesses and diseases. Not only would it be incredibly beneficial, but I really hope that it will be accessible and affordable to all types of people, in different states, countries, and income class. Not only that, but it can make new jobs for all sorts of potential individuals.

She loves watching makeup tutorials and using all of her friends as practice models. Q: What excites you most about the future? I’m excited about working with youth in my future career. Being able to help younger kids and teens with life is something I have always wanted to do. Once I am able to work, I want to work at a community center or an organization like the Boys & Girls Club to help kids with social and mental issues they are going through. Q: What’s your favorite quote or saying? My favorite quote is “Fairy godmothers use gentle words until gentle words no longer work” from the book ‘Break Your Glass Slippers’ by Amanda Lovelace. It’s my favorite quote because I always try to use soft-spoken words before an argument can become too loud or a screaming match. By using gentle words, it keeps me calm and I know I’m not in the wrong if they yell at me. Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Stars 2022

BGCAZ Scholarship Fund The support of Boys & Girls Clubs’ programming doesn’t end with high school graduation. BGCAZ oversees a large scale Scholarship Program, which helps Club Alumni pursue their dreams of a post-secondary education. Proceeds from the Youth of the Year events support the programs and activities offered at Boys & Girls Clubs, as well as provide scholarship and financial aid to qualifying members. Since the inception of the scholarship program, over 300 Club members have been awarded college scholarships.

Jessica Davis, the 2022 Youth of the Year candidate for the Superstition Mountain Branch. This scholarship grants the recipient up to $40,000 of scholarship funding over four years and a new laptop. Our education fund The education fund is an account set aside for our current Youth of the Year candidates to use towards their post-secondary education, including paying for college or technical training school tuition. If the candidate is a high school sophomore or junior, they are able to use the funds for college accredited classes, school supplies, or trainings. The education fund is also available to the candidates who are seniors to help them with other expenses a traditional scholarship may not cover.

Scholarship support for BGCAZ alumni Thanks to The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, BGCAZ employs a College Access and Success Manager who supports our Club alumni as they pursue their post-secondary education and certificate programs. Many of our students are firsttime college goers and the additional personalized support helps us to ensure their long-term success in their career and academic programs. In 2020-2021, BGCAZ distributed $105,848 in scholarship support for 38 Club alumni who are currently pursuing post-secondary education.

If you would like more information on donating to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, please contact us at 602-954-8182 or visit BGCAZ.org/donate.

This year, The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation awarded two of BGCAZ’s young women with the Renee Parsons Girls Leadership Award. This scholarship awards the recipient up to $80,000 of scholarship funding over four years and a new laptop. The recipient for the fifth annual Renee Parsons Girls Leadership Award is Jayna Shafer, the 2022 Youth of the Year candidate for the Louis & Elizabeth Sands Branch. Inspired by the list of applicants and her personal conversations with the candidates, Renee Parsons offered a second BGCAZ girls’ leadership scholarship this year – the Renee Parsons Excellence Award to
