DARK TIMES FOR ERUOPE

Many Castles had. natural defenses.

THE MIDDLE AGES. . .

The Middle Ages was a time of struggle for many Europeans because of the corrupt lifestyle and a harsh feudal system. This is a time Europeans would never forget or forgive. Castles... A Medieval castle’s main purpose was to protect the Nobles/Royalty living inside it. They were made to withstand attack, and for people being able to attack incoming invaders, they did this by making the castle with crenellated walls so the archers could have cover and shoot out arrows at the same time. Moats were also an important part of defense, a man made ditch filled with water, in between two walls. Some castles also had natural defense such as mountains or the

ocean. Inside a castle... The Main rooms included a great hall, which was the main room, The bed chambers, where the nobles slept, The solar, the private sitting room, Bathrooms, Kitchens, the gatehouses, a fortified building built over the gateway, and the

chapels, meant for prayer, used by everyone and close to the great hall.

This is what a great hall looks like.
