AMERICAN REVOLUTION
The battle of Yorktown to the bottom and battle of the Virginia Capes to the left.
What was the War of Independence? The American Revolution was a captivating and bloody war between the 13 original Colonies and the British Red Coats, fighting for independence and freedom from the English Crown. WARFARE IN THE REVOLUTION
Many other countries included themselves with the war of freedom making it a world war. The war had a lasting impact on both sides and a new country was born.
LAND WARFARE
SEA WARFARE
FRONTIER WARFARE
Land warfare remained very brutal because after shooting you would usually charge the other army and fight hand to hand.
For the Americans sea warfare was very hard because the British had the best navy in the world so the Colonies won a few battles but captured many british merchant ships with privateers.
Up in new England area and Canada and was usually in small towns or in the woods were gorilla warfare was usually used and Indians were part of the battles up their.

SIDES OF WAR Congress signing Declaration of independence.
There were many different armies in the war. There were mercenaries, Europeans hoping to get back the british and local tribes making this revolution a classified world war.
-Colonist The colonist were tiered with high taxes no representation laws and unfair rule. Many of the colonist wanted freedom and independence from Great Britain. At first a few colonist protesting the taxes and escalated to large protest and boycotts and the Boston Tea Party. Later the state of Massachusetts was punished and the ports of Boston was closed and in a result a secret government which was joined by other states creating Congress and were able to control a few small towns outside of Boston. Soon all the states had joined congress and effectively seized power form the royal government. Then in 1775 fighting broke out between local Massachusetts militia and British regulars starting the war and enraging colonist over their slaughtered people. Early into the war congress declared independence through the Declaration of Independence written by Tomas Jefferson and the idea came from John Adams. Hopping to break away from Britain they never gave up and kept fighting.
-British
-French
The British were the back bone of the colonies exporting all factory goods and establishing the Colonies in the first place so many colonist still thought that Britain should rule. The British came out of the French indian war in heavy debt and also withdrew from the Colonies leaving a still nurturing place with little protection and order. This caused the British to tax the Colonies higher but didn't acknowledge their protest. When fighting broke out The British government looked at it as part of their country breaking from them and letting go of very profitable land. This made them send lots of soldiers to get the colonies under control and make sure they kept the land.
[3]
Joined part way through the war and joined with the Colonies against the British. Hoping to get Back at the British for the 7 year war sent troops, money and equipment. Throughout the war the French had a major effect on the war and if the french hadn't joined the Colonies probably wouldn't have won.
-German Many German soldiers came from an area in Germany called Hesse-Cassel so when Britain hired mercenaries from there they were called Hessians. Also a cousin of king George supplied 12,000 troops to help with the fight.
-Indians Torn between two armies many Native Americans sided with the British because the colonist had had poor treatment of them and thought that the British would give them more freedom and let them do their own thing. Many tribes in the northern and western frontier had an impact on the battles there.
SOLDIERS Most soldiers were men that had been farmers and wanted freedom.
SOLDIERS Most soldiers in the American army were regular joe’s who wanted freedom and owned a gun. The British were trained solders in one of the best army in the world fighting the colonist who might train with a militia 2 times a year. There were 2 kinds of American soldiers in the war, Militia and the Continental soldiers. The militiamen were regular men between the age of 16 and 65 that came from a town and were a small fighting force there that protected the town from indians, bandits or any other time of emergency and trained only a few times a year. The continental army was started by Congress and led by General Washington and was a trained equipped for war army that trained to be a well oiled army and was the first american army. The total men that enlisted in the continental army was around 150,000 but only an army of 17,00 was enrolled at one time. At the beginning of the war people enrolled for around 6 months but later the enrollment became 3 years or the rest of the war. You could either get paid money or land and you also got a monthly pay of 6$ to up to 20$ but had to pay for all equipment and gear. Women/ wives and children would repair clothing or cook in the army. Congress asked states to send them regiments and all the regiments together were the bridge of blank state.
[4]
Hessian solder Many German solders fought as mercenaries in the war on the side of the british.
Weapons The musket was the most most common weapon of the war and were used in the common battle tactic, where two armies lined up and shot at each other till all the guns had shot then ran at each other with their bayonets( long 6 inch knives on the end of the gun for stabbing) for the gaps in the lines of the enemy and tried to force the enemy to retreat or surrender. Trained soldiers were able to fire 4 bullets in a minute. The rifle was the best gun of the day and was much more accurate than the musket able to shoot accurately up to 300 yards 3* the the range of a musket and was very dangerous in the hands of scouts and skirmishers. The american rifle was feared by some british captains they took off their gold trimmings. The rifle had a hand in winning a few battles in the war. But the rifle couldn’t carry a bayonet and could be easily defeated by horseback and bayonets it also took a longer time to reload. Small arms were rare and were usually in the possession of high ranking officers. A small arm was either a pistol, sword or sear and could be very useful in close quarter combat.
WEAPONS
Artillery Mortars were small cannons with a lot of power pointed towards the sky to get a cannonball over a fort wall and was usually used in siege warfare. Howitzers were a short cannon that mainly shot explosive cannonballs and were easy to move because of their size. Cannons were large guns that shot big projectile and had lots of power. Was the most common artillery and there were many kinds of cannons ranging from portable to large mounted ones and could shoot shrapnel, regular cannon balls and explosive ones. The cannon was the most important. The swivel gun was the smallest cannon there was and was used on land for more shrapnel use and for sinking small ships at sea.
-On the top is a picture of a cannon. -Middle is a picture of 4 pistols probably belonging to officers. -Right above is a picture of officers sword on the bottom. -A picture of to the left Two American rifles probably the most deadly gun of the war.

Battles -Battle of Lexington and Concord. The first battle in the war and lots of hate toward the British . After the Boston tea party congress was formed and local militias started training for conflict. Soon Great Briton declared Massachusetts a rebellious state. About 700 regulars were given secret instructions to go to concord and capture military supplies from the colonist. The local militia discovered this plan and were able to move most the supplies away. On the night of the battle Paul Revere rode his horse announced “The British are coming alerting local militia to go and fight the British. Very early the next day the british meet a few militia men and the militia men soon retreated after being overwhelmed and the british continued onto Concord where they searched for supplies. At the North Bridge near Concord around 500 militia men met 3 companies of the british with a outcome of casualties on both sides. The regulars out numbered retreated back to the main body of the fighting force in concord. With the search finished at concord the british marched back towards Boston. As more and more militia men gathered from neighboring towns battle carried on through out the trip back to Boston. Later the British regulars were rescued by reinforcements and a new force of 1,700 men. With constant gunfire on them the British forces finally reached safety in Charles town. The local militia then stated a blockade over Boston and that began the Siege of Boston.
Battle of Lexington and Concord
-Battle of Long Island
Understanding after the Siege of Boston that if the british controlled the New York Harbor then their navy would be able to dock and control the seas General Washington moved his soldiers to Long Island. Once there Washington he built fortifications for the incoming british forces. In the Command of General Howe the British landed a few miles away on Staten Island. Over the next month more and more reinforcements came from around the area and finally at the end 32,000 regulars landed on long island near Manhattan where Washington had the majority of his forces. On August, 27 the regular attacked the Americans fortifications on Guan Heights. General Howe had sent part of his army around the Americans flanking them and when the Americans panicked it resulted in 20% loss of deaths and captured but a heroic stand by 400 Maryland soldiers made sure the larger portion of the army wasn't captured. The rest of the American forces retreated back to main defenses at Brooklyn Heights. As the british dug in force siege on the night of August 29 and 30 General George Washington Left with the entire army to Manhattan. After several more Defeats The continental army was pushed out of new york into Pennsylvania. Battle of Long Island

I hoped you liked my revolutionary war pamphlet and learned something.”There was never a good war and never a bad peace”(Benjamin Franklin). A revolution like this could be avoided if the government didn't overuse its power and let every man and woman are able to be part in the dissections that affect lives.
Dear General George Washington, I’m a slave who was recently in your army but was pulled back into slavery. Many slaves in this country would love to fight for their country but are held from doing so. I would hope if you would let the slaves of this country to fight for this country and be rewarded for it. From, Curzon Dear Curzon,
Letter.
I would love if the slaves of this country could fight for their country because I have no doubt that every slave has less patriotism than any other man. There are a few problems with this though, to pass laws to have slave owners to give slaves up to fight would cause disruption. If I had the time to do that I would because every extra man is needed. I suggest that you go and try to get that past by yourself at the moment and look for help else where because I can’t help now but you might have to tough it out for now. From, General George washington.
