Kathy lived in New Lowell where she was in the military for 32-years. She was in the process of retiring and wanted to move to a town. I could write a long article about how great the summer was - and is – in Wasaga Beach this year. But hey, why don’t you have a read of a what a few of our residents and business owners have said. • The great festivals. Waterfront Fest, Canada Day Celebration and Rib Fest. Three amazing days of fun and entertainment. Joanne Pavlovic, Hand Racing, Wasaga Beach • When you think of some beach...somewhere...It's truly Wasaga Beach this summer. Wild Wing had a huge increase in visitors from Quebec, motorcycle riders and families. We received a lot of comments saying "We will be back, because the community spirit makes Wasaga Beach great". Mary Ann Watts, Wild Wing Restaurant, Wasaga Beach • Great summer and amazing weather. Our community has come together to make Wasaga Beach a place where people want to visit again. Everyone who stepped up to the plate this summer should be proud. Shawn Crozier, Georgian Triangle Music Festival • "Grandma's Beach Treats has experienced growth once again, this year we celebrated our tenth anniversary, and each of those years has seen an improvement from the year before!" Sylvia Bray, Grandma's Beach Treats & H.E. Carpet & Flooring, Wasaga Beach • "Wasaga Beach Brewing Company has been overwhelmed with the incredible support from the Town of Wasaga Beach towards the launch of our beer – Beach 1 Cerveza. It has been, both an exciting and busy summer, but not without challenges, as a result of such demand for our beer. But all in all, we are truly thankful to the Town of Wasaga Beach, and we look forward to continuing to serve, and grow alongside this great Town of ours!" Wasaga! David Cubitt, Wasaga Beach Brewing Company, Wasaga Beach • Where did summer go? Went far too fast…. Great weather. Great food. Wonderful wine… Great People... Fantastic Wasaga Beach events! Can’t ask for more than that. Eva Cerantola, Cerantola Family, Wasaga Beach • The Smardenka group, sincerely thanks Mayor Brian Smith and his council, for helping to change and shape our tourism. It has been a record breaking summer for all our businesses; Boston Pizza/Swiss Chalet and Marlwood golf and Country club. Yes, it has been a fantastic summer as far as weather, but the positive change has added the much needed excitement to Wasaga Beach, that has certainly contributed to our success. We are very proud to live, work and play in this town. HERE TO MAKE YOU HAPPY :). Sandy and Alex Smardenka • My summer in Wasaga Beach this year has been a Super Delicious Summer with so many choices to choose from that I saved on propane this summer and the Margaritas’ were flowing to beat the Heat SO..... I am not complaining. Victor Miller, Beach BOOSTER Radio, Beach Business Speaks • Whatsuphut.com has seen tremendous increase in users looking at Wasaga Beach businesses and events this summer. On average we saw over 10,000 people looking at the Beach's listing each month. That is a 27% increase over last year. This is exciting as whatsuphut.com has since last year expanded into 9 communities from Barrie to Meaford...so we are pulling eyes from all of those communities to what our community offers in regards to businesses and events. Tanya Snell, Owner/Developer, What’s Up Hut, Wasaga Beach • “Not only are people coming to enjoy the beautiful shores and amazing sunsets of Georgian Bay, they are making Wasaga Beach their Wedding destination.” Cathy Holland Hendry, Cathy's Flower and Gift Boutique • Although Labour Day traditionally means the end of "Summer" to most, we are often blessed with great weather in September with warm water temperatures. As I look back on the summer we have enjoyed so far this year, it's been an amazing year with many new activities and events and even a new "look" at our World Famous Main Beach. One of the most significant changes in my opinion, is the fact that residents of Wasaga Beach have once again embraced and taken ownership of our Main Beach areas, especially Historic Main Street with the addition of the new Main Street Market. Entertainment through the week, the unique and colourful kiosks offering local treats, The Beach Bar and the Main Street Market Stage with family friendly movies and live bands, have welcomed so many to come and enjoy this area once again. It is also very encouraging to know, there are already many plans in place for new attractions and a further rejuvenated Main Beach that will be in place to kick off a welcoming and exciting summer in May of 2017. I hope everyone has enjoyed what perhaps could be "The Summer of the Century" in Wasaga Beach. Joe Bickerstaff, Beach BOOSTER Media Group Please drop me a line and let me know what your thoughts are about our Wasaga Beach summer. We plan to do another Great Wasaga Beach Summer Update. “Be the Beach”, send me your thoughts and comments at Gary@beachbooster.com. Your efforts count in making this community the preferred place in which to live, work, learn and play. Gary is president of Critel Professional Services, www.critel.ca, and lives, works, learns and plays in Wasaga Beach.

Expert answers to your health and wellness questions by Jessica Brown Question: I was thinking of focusing a bit more on swimming this summer for general fitness and weight loss. What do you think—pros, cons? Answer: Swimming is a fantastic summer exercise, and it’s a great way to cross-train, so I’m glad you’re adding it to your fitness regimen. It works all of the major muscle groups and is easy on the joints too, given the fact that it’s a non-weight bearing activity. There is one thing that you need to keep in mind, though. Swimming can be pretty challenging, especially if you’re a newbie. It actually takes 4 times more energy to swim than it does to run, so swimming a quarter of a mile is roughly equivalent to running one mile. And because some people find swimming somewhat difficult, overall duration becomes an issue, since this can clearly affect the calorie-burning potential of your workout. Some have even questioned the effect that the water temperature has on overall calorie balance. Appetite seems to increase after swimming in cooler water, which means the calories eaten after exercise may negate the calories burned during exercise. Regardless of what you hear or read though, swimming provides a wonderful full-body workout. I definitely recommend it as an alternative to traditional cardiovascular exercise, and I encourage you to vary your swimming workouts, just like you would do with any other workout. Change up the intensity and the duration of your swims to reap the greatest possible health and fitness benefits. Question: I’ve always been a big fan of using sports nutrition bars as snacks between meals, but to be honest, I’ve never really given much thought to what type of bar would be best for me. Any thoughts on this?
Answer: This is an excellent question, and one that I get asked frequently. First of all, I agree—I’m a big fan of using sports bars as snacks as well. They’re convenient, generally affordable, and a quick source of on-the-go energy. The only real problem is that there are so many options out there, and not all bars are created equal from a nutritional standpoint. You really need to fine-tune what you’re looking for. If you truly want to use them as snacks, then you should probably look for a bar that has around 300 calories, 30-35 grams of carbohydrate, 20-25 grams of protein, and 7-10 grams of fat. Keep in mind, these are just ballpark numbers; the bar you choose could have more or less depending on your personal preference. The last thing you really need to consider when choosing a bar—and it’s a big one—is the taste. It’s probably best to start with the most popular brands, we have a few varieties in our Anytime vending machine. Give them a try!
