Governor’s Newsletter District A-12 District Governor Len Day Issue #5 November 2016
My A-12 Lions Family We have lots of things happening; clubs are reporting activities as we p r o t e c t t h e environment, engage our youth, feed the hungry and share the vision. As Lions, we are leading through our service while connecting with our communities and inviting for impact. Retention of our m e m b e r s i s important we must keep our members and to keep them they have to be happy and active doing relative service. As Lions we are looking for the needs in our communities and finding ways to fill the need. As we work at retaining members we have to ensure that our lions have the training that they need and that they know where to get it. Please promote the A12 Lions Learning Weekend. This is one for the best opportunities we have as Lions to get the needed training to be successful in our leadership roles in our clubs. The LLW is April 7 and 8 followed by our District Convention on April 8 and 9. There are other leadership opportunities that are available like the Leadership Resource Center at http://members.lionsclubs.org/EN/resources/leadershi p-resource-center/index.php on the LCI webpage and Lions University that is offered through the USA/Canada Leadership Forum. Developing our Lions and their leadership skills is the needed investment we must put in to retain our valuable members. As Lions Leaders it is our responsibility to identify our future leaders and invest the time to develop them and encourage them to attend forums and learning institutes that are available. I would like to congratulate Lion Marg Lewis for the work that she did at the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute furthering her development as a Lion leader. I am sure that she will use this new knowledge to help other Lions members be better at what they do. I hope that all of the District Lions will want to continue to learn more about what we as Lions do and who we help. Knowledge is a great tool to be used to better ourselves as individuals and to better our organization. I encourage our Lions to reach out to the leaders that we have in our Clubs and in our District and ask for help. Everyone has something to offer and something we can share with our members to give a hand up. As Lions we must make sure that we have the ability to help ourselves to ensure that we can help those that need help the most in life. Congratulation goes to the Bradford Lions for chartering a new Leo Club in the District. By increasing our future leaders and members these new LEO will build a bright future for our District along with the other LEO clubs that they can work with to gain Leadership, Experience and Opportunities.

One of the best ways to promote your club and get the word out about Lions is to proudly display the Lions logo at your activities and events. This includes wearing your Lions apparel, hanging your club’s banner and handing out Lions-branded communications. But before you start designing your own Lions T-shirts and websites with an individualized logo for your club, know the correct and incorrect way to display the Lions brand. Below are just a few Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind when designing an individualized club logo. Refer to the LCI Graphic Identity Manual for complete guidelines, including specifications regarding colour palette, typeface, images and more. Don’t: Change the Lions logo by using unacceptable colours. Add text to the Lions emblem. Apply graphic elements to extend or layer over Lions emblem. Use the full-colour Lions emblem for print or Web applications. Do: Use the approved Lions Clubs colour palette.
LCI Blue
LCI Yellow
Pantone 287
Pantone 7406
LCI Warm Gray Pantone 10
Consistent use of colour will promote recognition and strengthen the Lions identity. Keep text clear of Lions emblem. Be sure Lions emblem is layered over other graphic elements, not under. Use full-colour Lions emblem only for embroidery and other club supplies items.
Continue to give a hand up,

Lake Waseosa in 1971, at the previous site of Camp Waseosa. Camp Huronda is the only camp facility owned by the Canadian Diabetes Association and the only camp that runs a full summer program. Camp Huronda is located on the shores of Lake Waseosa in Ontario’s beautiful Muskoka area. It occupies 100 acres of land and includes gorgeous waterfront areas, a cool forest, and rugged hiking and mountain bike trails. Campers live in rustic cabins with their cabin mates and counsellors. Cabins are equipped with bunk beds with built in drawers or bed-side dressers, have emergency exits in the rear of the cabins and are also equipped with fire extinguisher and smoke detectors. Each cabin has an area for blood glucose (sugar) testing and supplies for treating lows, which are checked and replenished. All camper cabins have live-in counsellors who sleep overnight at camp to support our campers. Camp Huronda operates at a 3:8 ratio, meaning there are three counsellors for a maximum of eight campers per cabin.

TV... Or a siren in a song on the radio. ŸI'm so broke that this Christmas I am going to wrap up some batteries with a note saying "Toys not included". ŸIf you have trouble remembering every mistake you've ever made, just pour your wife 3 glasses of wine. ŸIf you bought a fruitcake this weekend, you have until March 2035 to eat it. ŸGoo Goo Dolls and Lady Gaga should do a side project together and call it Goo Goo Gaga. ŸNo need to scroll further, as it only get worse from here... ŸMy bed is a magical place where I suddenly remember everything I need to do. ŸBrushing your teeth is the only time you get to clean your skeleton. ŸBought some cheese at one of those fancy cheese shops today. It was legend dairy... ŸI guess that's the whey things are. ŸJeez - That’s a gouda one!. ŸOne day an iPhone is going to explode, and Android people are going to be like, “Samsung has had this feature for years”. ŸPeople need to understand the difference between want & need. Like I want to have hot body but I need chicken nuggets. ŸLater is the best time to do anything ŸIf you touch your phone in the right places, a pizza will arrive at your door. Ÿ“I’ll be speaking with my lawyer” is the adult version of saying “I’m telling mom” ŸMarry someone who can cook. Love fades, hunger doesn't. ŸThe first guy who heard a parrot talk was probably not ok for several days. ŸMountains aren’t just funny, they are hill areas! ŸI never thought I’d be the kind of person who’d wake up early in the morning to exercise... and I was right Ÿ.Turns out Santa is the ultimate Millennial Hipster ..... He works one day a year .... and spends the rest of the year judging you.

Hi! My name is Lion John Tindale, I am a member of the Wasaga Beach Lions Club, and I own & operate a hearing clinic in Wasaga Beach. One of my hearing aid suppliers, Unitron Canada, is offering to donate $5.00 to the Lions Foundation Guide Dog Program--specifically Hearing Ear Guide Dogs for every new "Like" they receive on their Facebook page for the month of December 2016. I am reaching out for your help to hopefully spread the word to all Lions Clubs in our district by sharing this e-mail to all Lions. My goal is to achieve 1,000 likes on Unitron Canada's Facebook page. As you know, it takes over $20,000.00 to train one Guide Dog. To date, Unitron Canada have sponsored 12 Hearing Ear Guide Dogs through employees generously giving throughout the year through payroll deductions, by participating in the Purina Walk for Dog Guides, holding various fundraising activities and the company itself making significant contributions from hearing aid sales. My request is time sensitive because it is just for the month of December so I would really appreciate any help you might offer in spreading the word for this very generous offer by Unitron Canada and to help raise a significant amount of money for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide Program. I would encourage my fellow Lions to please take the time to "Like" Unitron Canada's Facebook page and ask family members and friends to do the same! Thank you! Sincerely, Lion John Tindale, Wasaga Beach Lions Club
