Shape Shoulder - Cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next row and foll alt row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 9 (10-11-12) sts.

RIGHT FRONT YARN Ombre 250g x 2 (3-3-4) balls.

One pair each 5mm and 6mm Knitting Needles, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle. 5 buttons.

TENSION 15 sts and 20 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 6mm needles.

BACK Using 5mm needles, cast on 78 (86-94-102) sts. Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end. 2nd row – P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 6 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec one st in centre of last row = 77 (85-93101) sts. Change to 6mm needles. Beg patt – 1st row (RS) – Knit. 2nd row – Purl. 3rd row - K1, * K2, K2tog, yfwd, rep from * to last 4 sts, K4. 4th row - Purl. 5th row – Knit. 6th row – Purl. 7th row – K1, * K2tog, yfwd, K2, rep from * to end. 8th row – Purl. Rows 1 to 8 inclusive form patt. Cont in patt until work measures 42 cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping. Cont until work measures 21 (22-23-24) cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row. Shape Shoulders - Cast off 8 (9-10-11) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 9 (10-11-12) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off rem 27 (29-31-33) sts loosely.

LEFT FRONT Using 5mm needles, cast on 39 (43-47-51) sts. Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep last 2 rows until work measures 6 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 2 sts evenly across last row = 37 (41-45-49) sts. Change to 6mm needles. Beg patt – Work in patt as for Back until work measures same as Back to coloured threads, ending with same patt row on WS. Tie a coloured thread at end of last row to mark beg of armhole. Shape Front Slope – Keeping patt correct, dec one st at end (front edge) in next row, then in every foll row until 31 (34-37-40) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 25 (28-31-34) sts rem. Cont without shaping until work measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 6 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec 2 sts evenly across last row = 37 (41-45-49) sts. Change to 6mm needles. Beg patt – Work in patt as for Back until work measures same as Back to coloured threads, ending with same patt row on WS. Tie a coloured thread at beg of last row to mark beg of armhole. Shape Front Slope – Keeping patt correct, dec one st at beg (front edge) in next row, then in every foll row until 31 (34-37-40) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 25 (28-31-34) sts rem. Cont without shaping until work measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS. Work 1 row. Shape Shoulder – Complete as for Left Front shoulder shaping.

SLEEVES

Using 5mm needles, cast on 38 (38-42-42) sts. Beg rib – Work 6 cm in rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 2nd row and inc 3 sts evenly across last row = 41 (41-45-45) sts. Change to 6mm needles. Beg patt – Work 8 rows patt as for Back. Cont in patt, working extra sts into patt, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th row until there are 49 (49-53-59) sts, then in every foll 6th row until there are 63 (65-69-71) sts. Cont in patt without shaping until work measures 45 cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Cast off loosely.

LEFT FRONT BAND

Using mattress st seam, join shoulder seams. With RS facing and using 5mm needles, knit up 66 sts evenly along left front edge, 33 (35-37-39) sts evenly along left front slope to beg of shoulder, then 14 (15-16-16) sts evenly across half of cast off sts at back neck, ending at centre back neck = 113 (116-119-121) sts. Knit in garter st until band measures 3 cm, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely knitways. Place 5 markers for buttons evenly along left front edge, placing first marker just above rib lower band, then each marker approx 8.5cm apart.

RIGHT FRONT BAND

Work to correspond with Left Front Band, working buttonholes in centre of garter st, level with each marker placed on left front band as follows – “yfwd, K2tog”.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Using a flat seam, join front bands together at centre back neck. Sew on buttons. Darn in all ends.
