Using infusions of ingredients such as walnut, rhubarb, indigo and juniper. Perfect for mending, hand embroidery, cross stitch, punch needle and weaving, this durable soft thread feels lovely to work with and gives stitches a raised three-dimensional quality. Unlike Mouliné Spécial this crewel wool thread is used whole as a single strand, rather than being divided. It is approximately the same thickness as three strands of Mouliné Spécial.
Projects can be hand washed at 30 degrees, so it’s ideal for embellishing woollen clothes and homewares. As with all natural dyes, there may be slight colour variation. This 100% organic non–mulesed wool is the ideal choice for sustainable crafting.

NATURAL DYE COLOURS & TONES
Through natural dyeing processes you can achieve an array of pastel and bright tones. To do this, you must use quality dyeing plants and use large quantities. With the exception of certain plants, that are very concentrated in dye, you need to calculate a plant/weight ratio of the fabric which is being dyed. Certain plants are chosen according to their recognised dyeing quality and preferably their colourfast attributes.
New from DMC, this 100% organic wool thread is an instant classic you can feel good about. Luminous and colourfast! Shades are dyed using infusions of completely natural ingredients such as walnut, rhubarb, indigo and juniper.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE DO A DYE BATCH?
Each textile fiber and plant work differently, but the whole process can take several hours to do the mordanting, dyeing and rinsing.
NATURAL DYEING ON DIFFERENT MATERIALS
Dyeing cellulose fibers such as cotton and linen are more complex & require more steps and time. Wool & silk hold colour better. Different plants are easier to extract than others. Natural dyeing requires following and adapting different steps such as having a good mordant (a mordant is a substance used to fix a dye by making it insoluble) to the chosen fiber and rigorous extraction of the plant to obtain a dye bath.
Eco Vita is a non-divisible thread (meaning you don’t divide it into strands) that is approximately the same thickness as three strands of cotton floss. Its even thickness and gentle twist make it perfect for hand embroidery, cross stitching, punch needle, weaving and mending.
