REQUIREMENTS
CUTTING
• 15 cm x five different fabrics for squares
The fabric for squares cut 4 ½” x WOF then cross cut into 4 ½” squares.
along this line, from this cut bias strips ¾” wide.
• 50 cm fabric for flange and chenille strips
The fabric for the flange, cut 4 strips 3 ½” x WOF, cut these in half to have 8 pieces 12 ¾” x 3 ½” (55cm x 9 cm).
Backing fabric cut two pieces 16 ¾” x 10” (42.5 cm x 25.5 cm). Pellon cut one square 16 ¾” x 16 ¾”
With the remining flange fabric, fold at a 45 degree angle to find the bias and cut
(42.5 cm).

METHOD Lay the squares in a diamond pattern you are happy with, starting with the top right hand corner. ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○

Join these using a ¼” seam, press as you go. Centre the pellon on the back of the cushion top, keeping the diamond DESIGN WITH THE SQUARES AND FUSE. IMAGE 1 Cut the excess points off the fabric top to the same size as the pellon IMAGE 2 On the wrong side, measure in ½” from each side at all four corners and mark as per picture. IMAGE 2 IMAGE 1

Take one of the flange pieces and find the centre, match this to the centre of the cushion top with right sides together. Starting at the point ½” in stitch this seam with a ½” seam. IMAGE 3
Place the front and back pieces right sides together, open the zip before stitching to allow the cushion cover to be turned through to the right side. Stitch the outside seam using a ¼” seam.
Repeat this on all four sides of the cushion front. To mitre the corners of the flange, fold the edge at 45 degree angle where the corners meet and press. IMAGE 4
Turn through to the right side, press.

Stitch through both layers around the inside seam of the flange.
Stitch this seam from the cushion to the edge of the fabric.
To create the chenille look the cushion top can be washed and put through the dryer or brushing with a wire brush as per picture IMAGE 7
Trim the raw edges and press open. Repeat this for all four corners IMAGE 5
For a heavier chenille look add more bias layers of fabric.
Take two of the bias strips of fabric, place one on top of the other and position over the seams on the front of the cushion.
Insert a 40cm cushion insert and enjoy your beautiful new cushion. IMAGE 4
Stitch through the centre of the bias strips on top of the seam. IMAGE 6 Allow extra for overlapping, these can be trimmed later. Place the bias strips on the cushion top first - then place the bias strip around the edge of the cushion top. IMAGE 5

Take the two back pieces and insert the zip in the centre, fold one side over to conceal the zip and topstitch. Square off the back piece to 16 ¾” x 16 ¾” (42.5 cm) with the zip centred. Add the flange to the back as per the front of the cushion with a ½” seam allowance. IMAGE 6
