June Meeting Minutes By George Ann Hamilton June 25, 2012 - 6:30 P.M. Chris VanCleave. President called the meeting to order. We had in attendance twenty-two members and guests. Members were asked to bring their favorite dessert to the meeting for our refreshments. There was plenty for all and everyone was thanked for participating. There were no minutes taken at the May 30th meeting. The only matter of business at the May meeting was selecting the nominating committee for the new year. Hyacinth Prince gave the treasurer’s report. As of June 25, 2012, the checking account balance is $3,972.44 and the CD is unchanged at $5,047.47. The CD will renew in September. Hyacinth will look around for a better rate before time to renew. The profit from the Rose Show account is a couple of hundred dollars. Gloria Purnell is recovering from her hip and wrist surgery having rehab at home. Glenn Hodge is also doing well after his procedure concerning his throat. Clayton Richard, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, presented the slate of nominees for the new year: President: 1st Vice President: 2nd Vice President: Recording Secretary: Corresponding Secretary: Treasurer:
Chris VanCleave No Candidate Tina VanCleave George Ann Hamilton Sharon Bamberg Hyacinth Prince
The nominees will assume their new duties after this meeting. A vote was taken and the new slate of officers was unanimously accepted. Chris VanCleave presented the program for the evening. He demonstrated how to vote online for the Vice-President of American Rose Society.
This is a very important vote because after they serve for three years they automatically become President. The choices this year are Pat Shanley or Diane Sommers. The deadline for online voting is Friday, July 27, 2012, Noon CDST. The last part of the program was to break into three groups and wrap up our 2012 Rose Show. What went well? What could have gone more smoothly? What would we like to see in next years show? We were asked for ideas, suggestions for fundraising opportunities. The awards went very well but we need at least thirty minutes after the show closes to get awards in boxes so that they can be given/taken by the winner. Sometimes it is a free for all/grab and go situation. Needed more roses (Mother Nature had a lot to do with the lack of roses this year). What to do with roses not sold or left on the table after the show? Sale and donations from the Show this year was $285. It was suggested to contact nursing homes to make sure the leftover roses go to a place that will love to see them instead of throwing them in the trash. Pages need to be numbered in the Rose Show Program. Record the winners in the Photography Division. In the Photography Division the photo must be a bloom for Best In Show Award. Sell the photos in the Photography Division with the owner’s permission to raise money for Rose Society. Chris Van Cleave will speak at the Shelby County Christian Women’s Club on July 12, 2012. In August we will be asked help at Helena Market Days to promote the rose and Rose Society. The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 PM
