June 2013 President’s Message

From Our District President Karen Prevatt “I am very proud of our wonderful deep south rose photographers, but I am especially proud of Larry Durham from the Birmingham Rose Society who won eight certificates in the ARS American Rose Magazine Deep South District Bulletin Summer 2013 Fireworks on a „Fourth of July‟ Rose Rosa “Petite Pink Scotch”, Birmingham Botanical Gardens Photograph Contest in the Novice Classes. Larry won a Gold Certificate for his “Fireworks on a „Fourth-of-July‟ Rose”; Silver Certificates for „Autumn Splendor‟ and “Rosa “Petite Pink Scotch”, Birmingham Botanical Gardens”; Bronze Certificates for his photo of „Vincent Godsif‟, “Breakfast”, and three Honorable Mentions for photos of „Julia Child‟, „First Light‟ and “R. palustris in the Rain”. Congratulations, Larry.”

One of the great joys of growing roses is being able to share them with the world around you. For Tina and me, it was a great joy to welcome members of the Birmingham Rose Society to our garden in May. What a super time of sharing and fellowship. We have a full summer of garden tours planned. I hope you’ll make an extra effort to come and enjoy the beautiful gardens. Each garden is as unique as its gardener and reflects a dedication and love of roses that we have in common. I hope to see you all at the June Meeting!
