Flag Day It was lovely to see students and staff across the school celebrating the UAE Flag Day on 3rd November. The students all watched a presentation made by one of our Year 6 students, Salma, and learned some interesting facts about Flag Day. These included; • It is a national occasion where people of the UAE remember the efforts of the founders of their State, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid. • The flag was designed in 1971 by 19-year-old, Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah and was adopted as the national flag on the 2nd December 1971 and had the theme of unity of the Arab nations. • Each colour of the flag has a different meaning. Red refers to bravery, strength, and courage. Green refers to goodness and agriculture, abundant throughout the country. White refers to peace. Black refers to courage and power.

Classes then went on to make their own UAE flags. At 11am the students stood in their classes and watched the raising of the UAE flag and enthusiastically sang the national anthem.
