FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Parents and Students:

Thank you for taking a closer look at Bishop Miege! As you glance through these pages, I hope you can envision yourself in the midst of our students, YOU being a vital part of our family. We want you to know that if you become a part of Bishop Miege, you will be welcomed in immediately and have a chance to shine as the person God created you to be.

Parents, as your son/daughter visits our school and others, you must be wondering what environment will be the best fit for them. What school community will help them to be ready for their next step in life? Will my child be able to develop their gifts and learn how to use them as they go forward? Will they feel like they belong?

At Bishop Miege, we have a small vibrant school community where every student is encouraged to be an active participant. As a co-ed, Catholic high school with students from many different backgrounds, the environment is set for your child to shine as they work with others and develop skills that they will use throughout their lives.

“Do small things, with great love.” - Mother Teresa

This year, our school theme is “Do small things, with great love.” It is a quote from St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Our student leaders chose this theme so each of us can concretely find ways to love others, mostly through small every day actions. That means your child will enter a community where others will reach out to them, help them, walk with them, pray with them.

May your child encounter that Miege family feeling and know we are here for both your child and your family. Feel free to reach out to me or our staff if we can assist you in this important decision.

May we always do small things with great love!

God bless,

ONE MIEGE

At Bishop Miege, we are blessed with students who come from across the city with different cultures and abilities. An enriching mix has been a hallmark of Bishop Miege since its inception.

We pride ourselves on building faith each day, expanding minds with our excellent academic programs, serving others and enriching lives outside the classroom.

Herd Executives and teachers greet the Class of 2029 on orientation day.

“We have so many different clubs and communities within Miege, but we’re all here for the same reason with our education and faith. I think that ties us all together as one.”
- Grant Kellerman, Herd Exec

BUILD YOUR FAITH

How do we live out our Faith at Miege?

Jesus is the center of our school. We want to reach every student who walks through our doors.

“Miege has taught me to act out my faith, to not just proclaim it by word, but by action as well. It’s easier to wear my cross than actually carry it, but the focus that the school puts on actively living out the faith has encouraged me.”

There are many opportunities to encounter Jesus, the Living God, at Bishop Miege: Every student is encouraged to be the person God has created them to be so they can set the world on fire!

• Daily Mass

• Weekly Adoration

• Regular Reconciliation

• Daily Prayer

“Before I became a teacher, I worked in a research lab here in Kansas City. The Medical Interventions course I teach shows the students a number of techniques I learned in the lab that I didn’t even have exposure to in college.”

- Science teacher Mary Beth Summers

EXPAND YOUR MIND

Bishop Miege’s Biomedical Science Pathway is a hands-on program that gives students a real taste of the biomedical field. With three exciting classes, 80 different students get to dive into everything from healthcare to research, gaining both knowledge and practical skills.

“We used clay to put the muscles onto our human mannequins, and we learned how it functioned. I really got an in-depth understanding of how the muscles and nerves work by being hands-on with the process of building.” -

21st Century Learning

Joseph Michael Pedrotti Innovation Center

The new Joseph Michael Pedrotti Innovation Center contains new learning spaces equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology. There are two separate spaces: a Project Studio and an Engineering Lab. Students utilize the two areas for academic investigations to create products and solutions not possible within a traditional classroom.

In its first year, nearly every student at Miege has completed a hands on assignment in the Project Studio. The project studio hosts classes from all disciplines, especially giving an opportunity for all students to utilize the tools in the space. Tangible products allow students to deepen and enrich their learning across disciplines.

“Giving students a way to interact with the material they are learning in a real, tangible way has helped enrich their enthusiasm and depth of understanding in ways not possible in a traditional classroom.”
- Dr. Jackie Arico, Studio Coordinator

In addition to our Innovation Center, Miege offers deeper learning with:

• Project Lead the Way - Biomedical Science, Engineering, and Computer Science classes utilize a project based curriculum and challenge students to solve real world problems leveraging the latest equipment, software, and curriculum

• Peer Mentor Program - Teaching communication and leadership skills

• Math Hub - Staffed with a dedicated instructor available to all students throughout the day

Faith • Community • Service

“I thought my Herd was going to be a place where I knew nobody and wasn’t going to fit in. Once I got into it, it was like a family. Now, I want to invite the freshmen in like the upper classmen did for me by being friendly and encouraging.”

ENRICH YOUR LIFE

HERD & FAITH FAMILY

One of the special gifts at Bishop Miege is our Herd system. Each student is placed in a multi-grade level Faith Family, which is one of eight larger Herds. Student leadership is a central focus with each Herd having an elected Executive Captain to lead the Herd with four Faith Family captains.

THREE CORE VALUES:

- FAITH -

Growing a relationship with Jesus Christ - COMMUNITYFinding Christ in one another - SERVICEServing Christ by serving others

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Giving back with service opportunities are where we meet Jesus face to face.

Dedicated to former Miege campus minister Mary Perrini, who embodied service by living it, “Mary Perrini Day of Service” is a day Bishop Miege students live out our mission of service by giving back to the Kansas City community metro. Last Spring, over 28 local locations were served by the efforts of our faculty, staff and students.

THE ARTS flourish at Bishop Miege High School. Students have the opportunity to pursue their passions and achieve excellence across a wide range of disciplines. Whether it’s through music, theater, journalism, fine arts, or debate and forensics, Miege students are making their mark locally, regionally, and even nationally.

Theater

• Cappies Award winner Best Musical for the KC metro area for “All Shook Up”

• Peter Dessert, (photo) made it to the top eight finalists of the 102 nominees at the 15th annual Jimmy Awards on Broadway. He earned a $5,000 scholarship for making it to the top four male actors.

Journalism

• The Hart yearbook and Miegian newspaper both won All-American awards, including All-Kansas awards.

Fine Arts

10th Annual Archbishop’s Invitational High School Art Exhibition:

• Judge’s Choice award: by Lola Knauff “God Our Shepherd”

Music

Cantare Deum (top mixed choir) and our mixed female choir received a 1 - the highest rating possible. (left photo - opposite page)

Debate & Forensics

• Five forensics students qualified to compete at the National competition

• Debate coach Melissa Ryenolds earned her 7th Diamond award, which only 42 coaches have done in the 99 years of the National Speech and Debate Association.

Miege has been named an outstanding KSHSAA performing arts school for four years in a row, something only six schools in Kansas have achieved!
