hile most of us enjoy living in California, sometimes it is really brought home to us just how fortunate we are when we see the Midwest and East Coast slammed with the Polar Vortex leaving death and destruction in its wake. The ensuing winter and early spring storms add to their problems with flooding, land slides, wind damage and so much more. These types of weather phenomena are rare in California. Oh sure, we get some cold weather from time to time, and even a dusting of snow on our highest peak: Mt. Diablo. But never the crippling weather our sister states have to endure, year after year. So, let this be the time to welcome the beginning of spring. If you were fortunate enough to remember to plant your bulbs in early November, get ready to reap the benefit of the beautiful array of colors they will produce in the first month of spring. Daffodils, Tulips, Narcissus, Hyacinth, Iris, etc. are always the first sign that winter is coming to an end. These lovely colorful plants turn the dry browns and greys of the past three or four months into a potpourri of Spring colors.
Now, to truly enjoy the beginnings of spring, take a look around your home to see what needs to be done to have your home match the colorful outside. New exterior paint color? Replace old generational windows? Enhance curb appeal with new flower beds? Maybe re-sodding the front grass? And if doing so, you might consider some of the new varieties of imitation sod in case our drought conditions return? Replace the front door with something new and exciting? All of these ideas cost money, but it will also enhance your home for your own enjoyment as well as increase the value of your home. Now you can sit back and enjoy the benefits of your enhancements. Happy Spring!
