opefully, the rain is behind us! And with the spring break coming up, a family visit to the San Francisco Zoo should be full on fun and learning. It’s a beautiful 100 acre urban haven nestled against the Pacific Ocean. I visited the zoo last spring with my kids. My kids learned about the animal habitats, food chains, endangered and rescued animals. I also loved it for its beautiful trees and flowers growing throughout. We made wonderful memories riding on the little puffer miniature steam train. I guess I will always remain a child at heart. As a kid, growing up in India, I visited the famous “Chattbir” zoo every summer holiday. I was always fascinated by the exotic animals that I don’t get to see everyday like monkeys, lions, hippos, elephants and reptiles. I only saw them on Discovery Channel or Animal planet or in the movie Mowgli (The Jungle Book). I feel so fortunate to be living in Blackhawk where we can see wildlife like birds, deer, rabbits, wild turkeys and other animals coexisting with us. The Duck Pond at the Blackhawk Plaza is the closest nature getaway for me and my kids. We love to watch and feed the ducks, enjoy the water fountains or just stroll around in the beautiful peaceful urban oasis we call home.

Sonia Lamba As an aspiring photographer, I have always loved taking beautiful photos of my friends and family, nature and travels. After having a fulfilling career in finance in New York, I moved to California in 2014 where my love for photography turned into an invigorating passion. Moving to gorgeous Blackhawk has further enriched and blossomed my love for the camera. I take my camera everywhere, regardless of how short the distance is. Knowing me, there is always a photo opportunity!
