PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hello Members, We are now in the last quarter for 2017. This year has sped past ever so quickly. They say this happens when you are busy or having fun. I must admit to both as I enjoy what I do and helping to make the decisions to keep taking our Workers Group of Clubs into the future. Thank you to my Board colleagues for their support and contribution into our decisions. Neale Vaughan has updated the Sports Precinct building progression in his report and I would like to mention that a lot of work and discussions are being held regarding the Over 55’s Resort. Hopefully, I will have more details available in next journal. We have over 52,000 members so it was very pleasing to find that our Quarter Century members now total over 10% of our membership. We held a special night for these members in early August where I officially welcomed 344 new members into the Quarter Century Club. I thanked these members and all our members for their continued support to the Club. Janet Reynolds responded on behalf of these members. Thank you, Janet. The group gathered on stage and we had fun singing “The Old Tin Shed”. Liz assured me after hearing us sing on stage that no entertainers were in jeopardy of losing their spot at the Club. The crowd enjoyed a 3-course meal and complimentary drinks. Darren Carr, a very funny comedian and ventriloquist entertained and had the crowd laughing with tears rolling down their face. Next step is 50 years’ membership where you are offered VIP Membership. We already have many members in this category.

posted to you the membership office needs to be notified. The Club is pleased to be able to assist the local charities and like to let the members know what we are doing on their behalf. Throughout the year, we have had presentations on Saturday nights in the Diamond Showroom prior to the commencement of entertainment. We also presented cheques to several deserving causes through Club Grants which was hosted by Blacktown City Council. This is also an opportunity for us to talk to the recipients. I would like to wish you and your families a wonderful Xmas and a safe, happy and healthy New Year. There are some people that have lost close friends or family and are lonely and sad. Please take the time to show your kindness.

Until next time, Keep Smiling and be kind to each other

Kay Kelly Club President

We have lost several members during 2017 and on behalf of the Board of Directors I offer our condolences to all that have lost loved ones and friends. Thank you to our staff and Management who work hard to make your visit to the Club enjoyable. Thanks to Liz Star for providing good and varied entertainment and to Tracey Russell and the marketing team for the behind scene work with promotions. Congratulations to all members who have won cash and prizes and who have been lucky enough to attend the top shows at Qudos Arena or see the Wanderers play. I am still being asked about the Annual Report, Reports and Journal not being sent out to all members each year. We do send out Notification of AGM (yearly) and Board of Director Candidates profiles (when applicable as voting is biennial). All information is available at the Club and on the website but if you require it to be

TREASURER’S REPORT

GM’S REPORT Hello Members,

Hello Members,

Hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of another year.

Our local community has benefited in over $360,000 in donations distributed in the 2016/17 Club Grants and amongst Sporting Bodies.

There has been great feedback from our members and guests regarding the renovated toilet facilities in both Impressions and the Jack McNamara Lounge as well as the inclusion of a parent’s retreat. Upgrades to tables and chairs in the Reg McGrath Lounge are underway and should be installed in the coming months. We want to ensure the best in quality and comfort for our patrons with the new furniture hence the time taken to finalize these. We are also looking at new concepts, designs and ideas for the Jack McNamara Lounge and Impressions cafe. We need to ensure we continue to review our catering operations for all patrons and to keep up to date with the latest in food offerings. Sporting facilities works at the Sports Club are well advanced with the bulk earthworks completed and the civil works involving the grandstands and other facilities well under way. Works on the preparation of the DA for the first stage and masterplan of the over 55’s resort are still being undertaken with the hope that the DA will be lodged in early 2018. We recently completed a detailed marketing survey and the comments collected are allowing the Board, Management and our builders to have the right model ready to present to members. More information sessions for members will be planned in the future. Don’t forget to book early for Melbourne Cup Day, the Diamond Showroom will feature a great ABBA tribute show. Check out what’s happening for Melbourne Cup Day at our other Clubs. Watch out for all our great Christmas raffles at all Clubs including our annual Directors thank you raffle. New Year’s Eve will soon be upon us and tickets are now available for our great show and look out for all our other events on the night. All dates and times are in the journal.

As a director, it is humbling to be able to present these organisations with their donations on behalf of the Workers Club Group. We certainly can see a difference the donations and organisation make in the wider community.

ClubGRANTS from May 2016 to July 2017: Category 1 = $62,230.04 Category 2 = $97,712.37 The hard working and dedicated sporting bodies of the Workers Group also received financial contributions to the value of $200,994.31 during this time. I’d would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to run the sporting bodies. To the players, thank you for your sportsmanship and I hope you have all had a successful season. If you are looking to join a sporting body check out the directory later in the journal or check the Club website for details. Below table shows our operating profit as of 31st July 2017 In closing, I wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and prosperous 2018.

Again, I remind you of our Responsible Service of Alcohol policy under the NSW Liquor Act 2007 and the various signs throughout all our Clubs indicating the Code of Practice for the supply and service of alcohol. This is the law and our trained staff are following the requirements of legislation when enforcing these rules. May I wish all members, guest and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to you enjoying all our Clubs in 2018.

CLUB FEATURE

New to The Workers Club WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!

Drink beer. You’ll live longer and be happier. You won’t get fat. In fact, you may weigh less. You’ll boost your metabolism, improve your health and reduce your risk of clogged arteries, heart attack and cancer. What more could you want from your beer? Stand tall and proud Workers Members we have this season’s hottest new beer on the market exclusive to our Clubs. Chill out this summer with a schooner of Workers Draught. Workers Draught is crafted using sun dried malt and infused with Amarillo hops, imparting an intriguing citrus characteristic to the aroma and flavour. Designed with the Australian summer in mind, the season of shorts, mangoes, days by the beach and endless summer parties. Workers Draught is best enjoyed icy cold. This easy drinking draught goes well with seafood; grilled whiting and flathead, salt & pepper calamari all on the menu at the Workers Club. Don’t take our word for it…. Ask our members

The Men and Womens Oceania Target Championship, the Australian Junior Target Championship and also the Gold Coast Cup was held at Stock Sport Club at Elanora Queensland on the 8-9th of July 2017. We had our first Junior Target National Champion Christian Boris win the competition and improving on last years 4th place and will be heading to the World Championships next year in Austria. In the Womens Target Competition, Bernadette Hartmann finished third a great result in her first Oceania Target Competition. In the mens target competition Barry O’Donnell finished 5th and is also off to the world championships, James Loveridge finished in 8th place. To get these good results extra training had been organised to improve our target shooting capability. We also had two teams play in a team competition and three players who had not played at the Gold Coast before. Our no.1 team came in second. This team included Barry O’Donnell Captain, Miro Williams, Boris Krizman and Manfred Falmer. We had a good start being undefeated on the first day and won some close games but on the second day these close games went the other way but we still held onto second place. We will be hosting the Oceania Distance Competition and a national Mixed team Competition 23-24th of September 2017.
